Find a new way of getting lunch ready and served. Major tensions every year as DH serves up!

I think next year I’d like less people, but I probably won’t stick to that.
Happy with everything else Smile

GooodMythicalMorning · 25/12/2019 19:35

We didnt do cards so that was helpful, Most of the dinner was frozen bar the roast potatoes and the fresh puddings. I didn't notice any difference in taste or quality and it looked really good and was delicious so I'd definitely do that again as was so much less hassle.

tensmum1964 · 25/12/2019 19:35

Go abroad and walk in the sunshine forgetting that Xmas exists. If only.

trilbydoll · 25/12/2019 19:37

Buy another yule log, one was not enough Grin

Thestrangestthing · 25/12/2019 19:38

I won't waste so much money on stocking fillers and just buy useful presents for the kids.
I really want to try and persuade dp to skip his mum and dad's. I like going to the rest of the family, their's is just torture.
I will not buy pee made turkey gravey again, it was tasteless. Thought it would be better, I was very wrong.

CheekyFucker · 25/12/2019 19:39

We had cheese and baked bean toasties for lunch. So much easier.

I am cooking the works tomorrow. I have not been well and could not face it all in one day. Nobody has complained. Probably because I would kill them if they did.

Lippy1234 · 25/12/2019 19:40

I’d buy another turkey joint/crown from Iceland it was very nice.
Go for a long walk after lunch, we tried it for the first time this year and it worked really well.
I only buy for DH, parents and our 3 grown up DC so I’ll stick to that.

ilovesooty · 25/12/2019 19:41

Pee made gravy doesn't sound nice. Grin

Fuzzlewuzzle · 25/12/2019 19:42

I am going to book off a couple of days TOIL in early December and not have this mad exhausting panic right before Christmas.
Also find some more eco friendly wrapping solutions

BirthdayCakes · 25/12/2019 19:42

After 15 years I've decided that DH will be cooking Christmas dinner next year - I'll be doing a meal for solstice a few days earlier. I love cooking but Christmas dinner has to be the most boring yet stressful meal I cook each year..

I'm also going to timetable - we had vague plans to go carol singing, gather greenery, make decorations, go to church etc but they came to nothing because we basically couldn't be arsed - and now it feels like we missed out!

Blacksackunderthetreesfreeze · 25/12/2019 19:43

We spent it just the three of us (kids and me) this year. Had friends over in the morning. We’ll probably do differently next year as it was nice for a change but not every year.

sameasiteverwasantiques · 25/12/2019 19:43

To spend it just me and my own family.

CurlyMango · 25/12/2019 19:44

Be head cook and make sure that the potatoes and parsnips are crispy. And that the veg is not over cooked.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 25/12/2019 19:45

DP will NOT be cooking the dinner - took 4 hours under the consumption of rum... totally dried out and basically cremated.
I've had some awful stomach bug so had an excuse to pick at it.

Hoping he will slink off to bed soon.
Hmm

Taswama · 25/12/2019 19:46

At home next year. Kids are definitely more relaxed.

Christmasgifts · 25/12/2019 19:47

We will go back to our old tradition of eating Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve.
I hate spending the evening prepping and then half the day cooking and clearing up.
I used to enjoy cooking on Christmas Eve and it would all be done and dusted by about 7pm. Christmas Day was pjs, chill and pick at whatever food you like. This is what I'll be doing in future!

passthebucky · 25/12/2019 19:48

Beg everyone to just buy my kids one toy each. It's pointless crap that they don't want or need but people just buy for the sake of it. There's 15 unopened toys here that I'm just going to bag up and pack away and get out throughout the year.

Never ever buy sylvanian stuff ever again...seriously is there any need for all the tiny stupid bits that come with it. I'll be hoovering bits up until next year.

Buy less for everyone else.

Buy less chocolate...there's 25 selection boxes on my dinning table right now.

recklessruby · 25/12/2019 19:49

Not to buy frozen roast potatoes. Felt lazy and rushed yesterday so got some from Sainsbury's. Pretty tasteless. Prefer my own home cooked ones.
No complaints though. Ds just told me the meal was superb and the chicken lovely (vegan so i dont eat it).
Be less rushed in the last few days (but i say that every year Xmas Grin)

tealandteal · 25/12/2019 19:50

Will invite PIL to ours and not let them do a thing like they have done for us this year. It's been lovely and I'd like to return the favour.

bluechameleon · 25/12/2019 19:52

Buy fewer toys for the children. They are happy with them all but I was a bit embarrassed by the size of the piles- it is unnecessary. Also, next time we spend it at the PILs I will bring more food - there are hardly any snacks, including NO CRISPS! Who has no crisps at Christmas?

DukeChatsworth · 25/12/2019 19:52

I kept a few small gifts back for DD to open this evening. She enjoyed it as a second wave so to speak. Will try to remember to do it again.

Mikethenight2good · 25/12/2019 19:53

Take me and the kids abroad.

Everyone else can feck themselves Smile

orangejuicer · 25/12/2019 19:55

No Christmas cards
Pre prepared stuff
More booze! [Grin]

maddening · 25/12/2019 19:55

Go to bed earlier on Christmas eve, accept the fact that dh and ds are early risers and 6am rise and shine is easier with an earlier bedtime.

Book 27th off as well.

MomofTeen · 25/12/2019 19:56
