I’ve decided New Years resolution has to be an entire new friendship group.
Where would you start ?

At Church.

ScorpionQueen · 25/12/2019 14:58

Get a hobby, join a group or club where you can meet like minded people. Good luck.

ChanChanChan · 25/12/2019 14:59

Hobby (knitting circles, pottery, park runs) or volunteering.

MrsHardbroom · 25/12/2019 15:01

Something like a book group? Or a gym? Basically, start a formal group version of whatever your hobbies are to meet like-minded people. Good luck

Inliverpool1 · 25/12/2019 15:01

Don’t believe in God so probably give church a miss.
Am thinking I’ll have to start running won’t I ? I don’t love it but I am able to.
Thank you so far, all inspiration gladly received x

Think I might join you, OP. If you fancy a run around Sefton Park let me know (not that I can currently, but I used to do 5-10k!)

Inliverpool1 · 25/12/2019 15:05

@ Cryingoverspilttea lets do it ! Seriously ☺️🎅

It doesn't have to be running. If there is a Hash House Harriers group near you, it can be fun.

Gym classes, dancing, cookery classes, language class, anything where you meet new people. Go with a view to learning something new not just making friends.

Inliverpool1 · 25/12/2019 15:12

Hash house harriers that does sound fun but I fear I have a very different vision in mind.
I joined David Lloyd last year and went to the classes but it never really got beyond a hello
An actually considering a dog

Don’t laugh (and it may not be your thing anyway), but I’ve met a very diverse group of lovely people (some who’ve become friends) playing Pokémon Go!
Not normally a game player, but I started just giving me an excuse to walk and explore and it’s turned into a community.

Mummadeeze · 25/12/2019 15:16

Amateur dramatics group?! Choir? Things like that bond people and you can make friends quickly even if performing isn’t really your thing. Tennis clubs can be sociable ad you can take lessons if you don’t know how to play.

squee123 · 25/12/2019 15:19

do you have time to volunteer? That can be a great way of meeting like minded people

tallulahpineapple · 25/12/2019 15:20

I also play Pokemon go...I've lost 2 stone playing it...I'm 37 and have a professional job...met lots of people through it...
I would love to start a book club too..
But like many people have said join a group etc..I think finding new friends can be hard...:)
Volunteering aswell may be good

donquixotedelamancha · 25/12/2019 15:21

I think you'd be fine with the CofE.

Am thinking I’ll have to start running won’t I?

I'm not sure that's very sociable and also you might end up friends with a Runner, as opposed to someone who runs a bit. All the Runners I know are not normal.

How about LARPing? Much more chance of making friends.

Also, get a cute dog. I'm amazed how much people talk to me since I got a dog. I hate it.

Can you borrow a baby from somewhere? (Ask first)

justilou1 · 25/12/2019 15:25

If you get a dog, you have at least one new friend! (Unless it’s my dog - then my husband got one new friend. Traitorous, hairy, little beast.)

eatsleepmoverepeat · 25/12/2019 15:29

I’ve made some great friends through Facebook groups for stuff I’m interested in - podcasts, craft stuff etc.

astridforty · 25/12/2019 15:32

I’m up for trying to run round Sefton Park! @Inliverpool1

Pancakeflipper · 25/12/2019 15:39

Do Park Run, volunteer at Park Run. I've made several friends there. Also running clubs seem to be friendly.

Lonelycrab · 25/12/2019 15:44

Hash house harriers was a good laugh I remember well from my youth... the drinking club with a running problem Crown Grin

Good luck op, I often get days when I feel the same way myself.

Inliverpool1 · 25/12/2019 15:44

@ astridforty this is exciting, there’s three of us now ☺️

Netball teams are almost always super social so if you’re thinking along the lines of running maybe find your nearest back to netball and give it a go...

eatsleepmoverepeat · 25/12/2019 15:54

I’m a Scouser too, though running might be a bit optimistic Xmas Grin

Winterdaysarehere · 25/12/2019 15:59

More than happy to bring a ddog or 4 along...

I need new friends
Isleepinahedgefund · 25/12/2019 16:00

I think it depends on why you want new friends.

Why do you want new friends?

Inliverpool1 · 25/12/2019 16:28

@Winter he/she looks amazing yes please x
