Phone in my face colleague....

Colleague of mine, nice as she is, has a habit of shoving her phone right in my face when I'm mid-sentence if she's not interested in what I'm saying. It'll be yet another picture of her daughter/text about someone I don't know and I'm supposed to completely change tack and start talking about that instead....would IBU to tell her that next time she interrupts me with phone in face thing I will shove it up her arse?

Yes, that’s rude of her, but may be you are incredibly boring Grin

BMW6 · 17/12/2019 14:33

I'd tell her to bugger off frankly.

GinDaddy · 17/12/2019 14:34

@TheReluctantCountess

Maybe we should live in a world where people don't whip out their phone as soon as they lose interest or think there's something better they should be doing.

Maybe people say ludicrously stupid things behind the anonymity of the internet just to get a reaction.

Maybe.

NearlyGranny · 17/12/2019 14:34

Put your hand over the phone and gently push it away while shaking your head slightly and continuing your conversation. You won't need to do it more than once or twice.

If she does persist, then explain to her where and how to insert it. I recommend sideways for maximum effect.

Hoppinggreen · 17/12/2019 14:34

Take it out of her hand, place it face down in the desk and carry on with whatever you were saying/doing

Butchyrestingface · 17/12/2019 14:35

Does she do it whatever the topic you are discussing or have you spotted a pattern?

Tigger001 · 17/12/2019 14:43

Deal with it as you would a toddler.
"Sorry I'm just talking, I will look as soon as I'm finished my conversation "

Or

"That is extremely rude, please wait until I have finished my conversation "

Vectura · 17/12/2019 14:50

My little sister does this. I keep talking and gently push the phone away. She sulks. Still does it. What can you do!

HelloYouTwo · 17/12/2019 14:55

Do a Boris on her. Refuse to look at it, keep talking about whatever you want then take it off her and put it in your pocket.

Frothybothie · 17/12/2019 15:08

What HellotoyouTwo said.

AryaStarkWolf · 17/12/2019 15:13

I'm surprised you haven't done it already tbh, hate interrupters in general but that's next level interruption, so rude, she may as well just say, I have absolutely no interest in what you have to say

TheReluctantCountess · 17/12/2019 15:15

@GinDaddy it isn’t a ludicrously stupid suggestion at all - it could be the person’s way of signaling that she’s not interested. Hmm

AryaStarkWolf · 17/12/2019 15:18

it could be the person’s way of signaling that she’s not interested

Which is pretty rude

TheReluctantCountess · 17/12/2019 15:19

@AryaStarkWolf - agreed, but it could be.

TheReluctantCountess · 17/12/2019 15:20

It would also mean that they weren’t really listening in the first place.

Equanimitas · 17/12/2019 15:20

Go for the classic "Did you mean to be so rude?"

Nicolastuffedone · 17/12/2019 15:23

I usually give a brisk ‘one moment’ and carry right on with what I’m saying.

MarianaMoatedGrange · 17/12/2019 15:26

Please try a Boris OP

bluebells1 · 17/12/2019 15:28

Do what Boris did. Take the phone and put it in your pocket. She will have something to moan about.

Butchyrestingface · 17/12/2019 15:30

Do what Boris did

Thought you were going to say ‘hide in a fridge’.

FooFighter99 · 17/12/2019 15:55

Slap the phone out of her hand!

WorraLiberty · 17/12/2019 15:56

I usually give a brisk ‘one moment’ and carry right on with what I’m saying.

Yes, surely that's what anyone would do.

Do you not do that OP?

torain6319 · 17/12/2019 16:03

Coworker doesn’t sound very nice to me OP. I’d just walk away.

midsomermurderess · 17/12/2019 16:04

Is this when you are discussing work stuff? It's not good generally, but if she does this when discussing work, I think you need to knock that on the head.

FreedomfromPE · 17/12/2019 16:04

Drop it on the floor!
