Custard (lowest stakes AIBU ever?)

I've just made meringue for a Christmas pavlova (no I know, it's not very Christmassy, but we asked the kids what they wanted three years ago when they were 4 and it's sort of become a tradition) and I have 4 egg yolks left. WIBU to make some custard from them and have some panettone and custard this evening, even though it's not remotely Christmas yet and there's a tsunami of pudding coming at me from about Saturday onwards?

Sounds delicious, as long as the custard isn't shark-infested Smile

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 17/12/2019 11:21

Sounds lovely OP as does pavlova. Can I come to yours for Christmas dinner?!

What with this and another thread about pigs in blankets I'm now ravenous which is a dangerous situation when drinking coffee in McD's Confused

I can literally eat custard from the pan/carton and I'm ve ve impressed you make your own.

PsuedoSatisfactionBaby · 17/12/2019 11:23

Can you make pavlova that far in advance? Does it still stay chewy?

toomuchtooold · 17/12/2019 11:28

I don't know @psuedosatisfactionbaby, I make the meringue as dry as a bone, very 80s! Then it keeps. I also make and freeze a yule log, and I also do a Christmas cake. Basically the aim is to have enough pudding to keep us going through to January (the Christmas cake lasted through to May last year!

justilou1 · 17/12/2019 11:40

Recipe please! I hate soggy pav!

gothefcktosleep · 17/12/2019 11:41

sounds blinding!

memaymamo · 17/12/2019 11:43

Pav for Christmas is very Australian. Especially if there's kiwi and passion fruit on top.

Stravapalava · 17/12/2019 11:44

It is Christmas! Do it!!

MarianaMoatedGrange · 17/12/2019 11:45

Ok so I called the Custard Police Helpline, and apparently it would be an actual CRIME not to use your left over yolks to have custard today. You have been warned, OP and photo evidence of said made custard is required here this evening.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 17/12/2019 11:46

You make your custard

It’s the season for eating, calories don’t count from now until the 1st of jan

Pfefferkuchen · 17/12/2019 11:48

If your kids eat a healthy diet and are as active as kids should be, eating custard and panettone tonight is more than fine!

the whole point of a healthy and balanced diet is that you can eat (reasonable portions of) everything.

MarianaMoatedGrange · 17/12/2019 11:48

P1nkHeartLovesCake I agree. I look forward to my January of salads Xmas Sad

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 17/12/2019 11:53

Sounds lush! Can you adopt me please OP? (even though i'm in my 40s).

justilou1 · 17/12/2019 11:54

She’s totally not sharing it with her kids....

Dacquoise · 17/12/2019 11:56

If you're feeling a bit guilty about the sugar, why not a yolk rich cheese omelette with side of worthy salad to compensate?

Tashtegotoo · 17/12/2019 11:58

There is never a time when it is not a good idea to make custard. Pavlova is a classic NZ Christmas pud too.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 17/12/2019 12:01

Er, out the way you lot, I've already claimed any leftovers > sharpens elbows < Angry

Busybusybust · 17/12/2019 12:01

Make a emon custard out of them using just and juice, let it cookl, fold iit into whpped cream and fill the meringue with it. The best pavlova EVER!

easyandy101 · 17/12/2019 12:06

1 of my favourite things about making pav is that you're forced into making custard

So yanbu

MurrayTheMonk · 17/12/2019 12:07

I'd have custard any day if the year, Christmas or no... YANBU

You and your comment need to find a new thread, this one isn’t for you

justilou1 · 17/12/2019 12:22

Screw the omelette! I made passionfruit curd today. Going to put it on pav. Or fold it into cheesecake. Or eat it with a spoon.
