Comparing Tories to domestic violence

Saw this posted on FB today. Is this not a bit much/tasteless/disrespectful as an analogy? Can’t wait for this election to be over!

Comparing Tories to domestic violence

Hmm, I can kind of see what they mean.

MrsFoxPlus4Again · 12/12/2019 13:03

I can see what they meant.

HanginWithMyGnomies · 12/12/2019 13:04

Because domestic violence is a joke! Ridiculous 😡

midnightmisssuki · 12/12/2019 13:05

I mean 🤷🏻‍♀️ - people will say the most controversial things in order to shock though right? It comes down to whether or not a FB list by someone silly will change your mind, which I suppose was this persons intention. Domestic violence is not something to be so callous nor used in a political context. Strange.

crispysausagerolls · 12/12/2019 13:05

Yes, I am not an idiot; I understand the analogy they are making. I just think it’s tasteless and inappropriate.

OP posts:
ajandjjmum · 12/12/2019 13:07

This election has made people pathetic!

MissConductUS · 12/12/2019 13:10

It will be our turn next year and you can.all make popcorn. 😊

crispysausagerolls · 12/12/2019 13:10

@ajandjjmum

Yes!

OP posts:
BovaryX · 12/12/2019 13:12

OP, it’s offensive. But hey. The Labour Party and their media acolytes are so pro women...

pootroll · 12/12/2019 13:19

Boris has said worse, on multiple occasions

HisNibs · 12/12/2019 13:22

Hmmmm. Let's minimise DV and make a joke out of it Hmm
What kind of wanker does that?

ajandjjmum · 12/12/2019 13:24

pootroll
What has Boris said that's worse?

thefluffysideofgrey · 12/12/2019 13:25

Having been a victim of DV both as a child and an adult, I think it has a point.

Certainly not offended.

Having my ribs broken, now that was offensive...

crispysausagerolls · 12/12/2019 13:25

@pootroll

My post isn’t about Boris. It’s not about JC. It’s not about justifying bad behaviour because other people have behaved badly! It’s about this one Facebook post and me thinking it’s fairly outrageous and being annoyed at how normal people are behaving

Baguetteaboutit · 12/12/2019 13:35

Surely that ilk of propaganda only serves to bolster the position of those who have already decided how to vote? Surely those who intend to vote for another party will simply ignore it? Meanwhile, floating voters wouldn't be floating voters if they could be easily swayed by such emotional hyperbole?

And I'd say this to the Tory bots too and their drama lama lamenting of being plunged into a communist state - just fuck off.

Stick to the policies that you intend to deliver and stop patronising voters.

MissCherryCakeyBun · 12/12/2019 13:35

As a sufferer of Domestic Violence for 20 years ( thankfully long gone) I agree to actually take the fact the man I was married to pushed me down the stairs and threatened to cut my face off to stop men looking at me, smashed my head into wall and similar things and say that is like the Tory parties behaviour.....That's incredibly belittling of what I suffered on a daily basis.
To use Domestic Violence as anything other than an analogy for torture is absurd.

Monsterinmyshoe · 12/12/2019 13:40

I can see what both of you mean. It isn't particularly tasteful, but at the same time that is what they are doing - they have made some people's lives a living hell through austerity and now that they need our vote, suddenly the magic money tree has been found. They could have used a different analogy though.

araiwa · 12/12/2019 13:40

Seems a very good analogy to me

Monsterinmyshoe · 12/12/2019 13:42

Although I don't get why people assume that a Labour associate has written that. It could be written by anyone who doesn't like the Tories, which let's face it, is nearly all of the other parties.

HanginWithMyGnomies · 12/12/2019 13:47

@araiwa as someone who had my skull fractured and ribs broken in an assault from domestic violence. I can tell you it most certainly is not a good analogy!

Some people, honestly...

pootroll · 12/12/2019 13:50

Really? Hmm ajandjmum, I haven’t got a spare year or two to recount all of his offensive bumbling.

araiwa · 12/12/2019 13:52

I think some people dont know what an analogy is

Its completely apt

crispysausagerolls · 12/12/2019 13:54

I’m very sorry to hear of people’s experience with DV.

There are surely less offensive analogies available to people. I would say the same if any party used this btw - I just happened to see it today and was a bit 😳

OP posts:
pootroll · 12/12/2019 13:55

dv shouldn’t be used as analogy. The Conservative and Unionist party have caused starvation, misery and death. It should be simply stated as it is. @crispysausagerolls

crispysausagerolls · 12/12/2019 13:56

@pootroll

I agree completely. People should make the point they are trying to make (with facts to back it up). Dragging DV into it leaves a very unpleasant taste in the mouth.
