Comparing Tories to domestic violence

Saw this posted on FB today. Is this not a bit much/tasteless/disrespectful as an analogy? Can’t wait for this election to be over!

Comparing Tories to domestic violence

Well that's convenient isn't it.

HanginWithMyGnomies · 12/12/2019 13:57

@araiwa comparable in significant respects? An analogy of domestic violence would be terrorism or torture. Educate yourself.

araiwa · 12/12/2019 14:02

Man beats wife for 10 years, promises the opposite, carries on beating her for another 5 years

Tories attack public health, fire brigade police srvice, social care, benefits for 10 years, promises the opposite, carries on with cuts for another 5 years.

Pretty similar

araiwa · 12/12/2019 14:04

To use a mn favourite 'theyve shown you who they are'

why believe them now? That theyll do the opposite to what theyve been doing for the last 10 years?

pootroll · 12/12/2019 14:07

Not really you could try google : type ‘Boris offensive quotes’. and take your pick , there are pages and pages of them or are you trying to say he’s never said anything offensive?

araiwa · 12/12/2019 14:08

@crispysausagerolls

Youre misunderstanding the analogy

Its not about dv. Its about believing what someone says now when they want something as opposed to a long history of what theyve done

thepeopleversuswork · 12/12/2019 14:08

It's classic lazy playing to the crowd propaganda and is very much in line with the general histrionic style of this whole campaign (and the same applies on both the left and right). Ugly.

HanginWithMyGnomies · 12/12/2019 14:08

@araiwa I understand what you’re saying, but that’s about doing the same thing and expecting different results?! It’s not comparible to being tortured and terrified in your own home. Having physical and emotional injuries caused to your body at the hands of another one person.

It’s very offensive to victims of dv and minimises the horrific impact of it. I apologise if any of the above austerity has left you with PTSD or ongoing mental or physical health problems. See my point?

crispysausagerolls · 12/12/2019 14:10

@araiwa

Ffs I’m not misunderstanding I just think it’s tasteless. They could have used another subject matter for their analogy. It’s tasteless.

OP posts:
araiwa · 12/12/2019 14:13

Thousands have suffered and some have diedfrom austerity but thats not the point.

Its about believing someone who has treated you terribly but promises theyll change now you have something they need

HanginWithMyGnomies · 12/12/2019 14:23

There’s really no debating with someone who is so fixed in their view and won’t take on board what other are saying. It’s distasteful as an analogy.

And FYI I didn’t NEED anything. Most victims of DV stay out of fear or conditioning. Again, not the same as not learning from past behaviour and believing false promises.

YouJustDoYou · 12/12/2019 14:25

Hmmmm. Let's minimise DV and make a joke out of it. What kind of wanker does that?

A Labour supporter.
