I think I must be missing something. Yet people will vote for these people why?
What do they offer the average working family?

There are many people with learning difficulties who are carrying out their normal day to day living, doing the same job and as well as someone without learning difficulties.

I've not seen anything other than discrimination from this party.
Anyone who votes for them are openly voting for discrimination as it's not like they don't know.

This was widely reported on bbc (check the app) this morning with the 'context' the candidate claims, shown too. Totally shameful on her behalf.

I have autism. I have some support handling my finances, but that's because I get overwhelmed, not because I don't understand.

Those of living with disabilities actually tend to have higher living costs than those without. Perhaps we should get paid more?

I have learning difficulties an a low IQ.
I just never went for jobs beyond me, and eventually caught up in life.
Even gained an Hons Degree and PgCE.
If you can't do a particular job for whatever reason, difficulties or not, you don't do that job.
It doesn't mean you should get paid less for the work you do.
It's disgusting, they don't even try to hide their discrimination.

What if the option was no job or less than minimum wage because your needs are such that an extra layer of supervision needs to be in place and paid for? Then you may be only able to do voluntary work. In principle, I feel it’s abhorrent but on one level I sort of get it in limited contexts.

I’m talking about more severe learning difficulties.

The whole point of the minimum wage is that it’s the minimum wage. Not the minimum unless you’re disabled.

It's illegal to pay under the living wage, the cons would change the law to make it legal.
It's not ok to discriminate against people on any grounds.
people with learning difficulties need to support themselves the same as the rest of the population.

Freda, that support used to be provided by the government under the Access to Work scheme. The Conservatives have cut A2W funding though, so most people don't get anything near the support they need.

Also many people who lost their Motability cars through the PIP process have had to give up work as they're not able to manage public transport.

Written by the way, by a mother of a daughter with severe Down syndrome AND the original founder of a charity aimed at enabling those with SEVERE learning difficulties to work a few hours a week to remove the social isolation of permanent unemployment.
