Rubbish is the cinema 😱

I went to the cinema today for the first time in a long time.

And at the end, I was gobsmacked at the amount of rubbish just left everywhere.

I'm talking popcorn...empty drinks, spilt ice creams, hotdog buns, sweet packets..... It was horrible :/

Is this normal? AIBU to think this is unacceptable?

They tell you to leave your rubbish by your seats so they can recycle it.

BTW - your thread title makes you sound like Yoda (in a good way) Grin

They tell us to leave our rubbish so it can be sorted for recycling.

Orangecake123 · 05/12/2019 19:42

Sometimes you will drop popcorn, but it is plain rudeness.

My cinema has a person who stands with a bin bag at the end of the film.

HideYourBabiesAndYourBeadwork · 05/12/2019 19:43

At all the cinemas I’ve visited the last few years they tell you to leave your rubbish there. Signs up everywhere.

WatchingFromTheWings · 05/12/2019 19:43

My 2 local odeons have signs asking you to leave your rubbish by your seat.

Lulualla · 05/12/2019 19:43

They tell you to leave your rubbish so they can dispose of it properly. When people used to take it out, it will fill up the bins in the lobby within minutes and also end up all over the street outside. There are signs up telling you to leave it and usually a wee add on the screen at some point during trailers which tells you to leave it.
They dont want people carrying it out, spilling it, filling the bins or littering. They also recycle.

00100001 · 05/12/2019 19:44

Really? I took my rubbish with me...

They tell you to leave your rubbish behind. Confused

I think it's odd, but that's definitely what they say.

WelcomeToShootingStars · 05/12/2019 19:47

There's a big difference between putting your rubbish in a tidy pile for collection and throwing hot dog buns and popcorn all over the floor.

People are pigs. Walking through an airplane after a flight is testament to it too.

Lunaballoon · 05/12/2019 19:48

Blimey, 35% think it’s ok to leave it in that state Hmm

SantasLittleHelper2019 · 05/12/2019 19:48

I live abroad and there are different recycling bins at the exit door from the auditorium. I have never seen people leave their rubbish at their seats. Everyone throws it into the correct recycling bin as they leave. As part of the pre film adverts there is always a short film reminding people to do this.

Am it does not happen in the UK.

YANBU. People are dirty, entitled fuckers and think someone else should clean up after them.

I have seriously asked people before if they’re actually going to leave their rubbish for someone else to clear away, to which they always mumble away and pick it up sheepishly.

Batshittery · 05/12/2019 19:51

Wow, I didn't know you were supposed to leave the rubbish (although it has been a few years since I went to the flicks)

heartsonacake · 05/12/2019 19:52

Wow, I didn't know you were supposed to leave the rubbish

You’re not.

MyDcAreMarvel · 05/12/2019 19:52

Luna they tell you to leave it because of recycling and also a cleaner would lose their job!

MyDcAreMarvel · 05/12/2019 19:53

@heartsonacake yes you are!

Venger · 05/12/2019 19:53

The Vue ask you to leave your rubbish by your seat so it can be recycled, I think Odeon do too but we don't go there as often so can't say for certain.

If people have dropped food, such as a bun or popcorn, and it's dark when they leave or they can't easily see where its rolled to then I can quite understand them leaving it. It's all dry food, takes two minutes to sweep up with the long handled dustpan and brush the staff use.

Lulualla · 05/12/2019 19:57

@heartsonacake
I suppose it depends on the cinema but YES YOU ARE!!

Eaten must be your popcorn before recycle its carton you can....Grin

Pinkblueberry · 05/12/2019 20:01

YABU because I think you’re supposed to just leave it aren’t you? Someone comes in to clean, otherwise the bins outside just overfill.

I8toys · 05/12/2019 20:01

I hate it. It gives a terrible message to children that someone else will tidy up their shit for them.

JumpyLiz · 05/12/2019 20:03

Our local Vue asks you to leave your rubbish by your seat. I do it, but it pains every fibre of my being.
