To feel like I look lumpy or fatty?

Just wanted a perspective from other mumsnetters- have name changed as don’t want to link to my usual non-weight related posts!

5ft5 117lbs which sounds good...but my tummy and back has visible fat and flab rolls!

Is there anyone else that looks or feels like this? There’s still so many outfits I can’t wear or look unflattering on me!

And no I’m not ‘fat-shaming’- I have lots of beautiful friends that weigh more than me- they just seem to carry it much better!

Spanx is your freind

Decemberslumber · 02/12/2019 18:12

Just astounded I need it at a normal-low weight...I always thought I’d be flawless if I got to this size...clearly not 😂

Wearing a good bra and a full length slip with dresses - the slip will cling to you, instead of the dress and will conceal your love handles

PhoneLock · 02/12/2019 18:14

Tone up.

You can lose more fat but without getting any lighter. That will keep the BMI gods happy.

bridgetreilly · 02/12/2019 18:16

but my tummy and back has visible fat and flab rolls!

Visible to whom? Just you or the rest of the world? Because honestly, most other people won't be noticing or caring. And if you're twisting and turning to see them, they probably aren't there when you're standing in a normal way, anyway.

Jimjamjooney · 02/12/2019 18:20

You probably need to build more muscle for a 'toned' look by doing some weights (toned=higher levels of muscle to lower levels of body fat creating a tight appearance). Even super skinny supermodels can look skinny fat if they don't do resistance exercises.

WorraLiberty · 02/12/2019 18:21

That's about 8st isn't it?

Are you sure your bra isn't too tight?

That can make the back look flabby even when it isn't.

Decemberslumber · 02/12/2019 18:21

Gosh consensus needs to be I need to tone up! Just so surprised as I always thought if I was light enough, fat would be minimal...time to get training!

OP posts:
Decemberslumber · 02/12/2019 18:22

@WorraLiberty bra isn’t too tight- I am a 32 back...but I’ve always stored fat around my back and yummy so visible fat by my bra and love handles even at just over 8 stone

I feel for you, cos I feel like you. The gift that keeps on giving; the menopause, its been far too generous, and I have brand spanking new belly & bum. It definitely isn't fat shaming, this is about the shock of change, and the rapidly running out of clothes I feel good in.
Spanx, you say? Superheroic underpinnings I'm on my way.

PooWillyBumBum · 02/12/2019 18:26

Wonder if you’re super small boned or something? I’m 5’5, pregnant now but before I was around 125-130 and I wouldn’t describe myself as lumpy at all! Last year I did a lot of CrossFit and was even heavier but probably looked he best I ever had. But maybe I’m delusional and everyone else just sees a lump!

Decemberslumber · 02/12/2019 18:41

Think I might be small boned as my arms are tiny- just so confusing as I thought I would look slim at this weight!

How about trying on clothes a size bigger? That may make a difference.

PickAChew · 02/12/2019 18:59

You almost definitely are slim but your body won't have that airbrushed smoothness without taut skin and toned musculature. The first is a combination of age, genetics, lack of wear and tear (eg pregnancy) and luck but the second is down to exercise.

Dinosforall · 02/12/2019 19:04

Have you dieted off your muscle?

At least being skinny it won't take long to gain visible muscle (tone if you prefer).

Decemberslumber · 02/12/2019 19:23

Think you must all be right- need to tone! No age or pregnancy to blame as only 30 and still TTC... skin is taut and no cellulite- just a flabby tummy and back! Legs and arms slim 🧐

raspberryk · 02/12/2019 19:28

Did you lose a lot of weight quite quickly?
You should be bloody skinny at that weight and height so is it mostly extra skin?

Ohyesiam · 02/12/2019 19:37

My figure has got LOADS better for doing gym classes. I’m actually heavier than I was last Christmas, but I look much better and can wear lots more styles.

Decemberslumber · 02/12/2019 20:10

@raspberryk not loads of weight- 1.5 stone over 6 months! And no excess skin or cellulite- just tummy and back fat. I’d describe myself as a lumpy size 8 (10 in Jane Norman/ Topshop) 😒

raspberryk · 02/12/2019 20:33

That is quite a bit over a short period really especially when you wouldn't have been overweight to start with. I agree with pp about potential muscle loss rather than fat loss. Sounds like you need to tone it and eat clean/healthy and also give y9ur body time to re adjust.
I'm fat currently but when I lose weight there's always a bit of time where the remaining fat needs to redistribute and skin needs to shrink back a bit.
Ultimately though you're a human not a mannequin and you may just need to find clothed and underwear that wore for you.
Even at my slimmest pre kids I've always used a slip/control wear to smooth things out.

Jollitwiglet · 02/12/2019 20:38

I agree with pp saying about toning up. In the past I have actually looked better when slightly heavier but more toned, than when weighing slightly less but not toned. Now if I could just crack weighing less and being toned all at the same time, that would be great Grin

Rumblebumble · 02/12/2019 21:12

Gosh consensus is I really need to tone up!! Time to get on it!
