Does anyone else find their name weird?

I have an unusual name but I don't think that IS IT. When people use my name,especially in writing I feel disconnected from the word and me, like we are not the same. Have I lost it or do others feel the same?

I know exactly what you mean. I don't have an unusual name but when I hear it or say it myself, it doesn't feel like my name.

I think I do know what you mean... is it a bit like when you stare intensely at yourself in the mirror then get freaked out?!

I say my name loads (work in customer service) and don’t find that weird. But if I see or hear other people say it not directly to me I find that weird

Nope, I love my name. It is me, and I am it. I'm sorry you don't feel the same. I spent many an evening practicing my signature - that might help? Write it over and over and over and over. It IS yours. Must feel very odd x

My name isn't especially unusual or usual, it's just a bit of a shit name. I also feel disconnected from it and often go by my middle name as it seems more in tune with who I am.
I wished that my mum would've thought about what impression my name would have given about me when she chose it

Yes! I hate it when anyone refers to me by name. Very odd. I especially hate when dh says my name as it’s so very Not Me. I have a very run of the mill, 80s name that many girls also had at my school. It just feels so blah, always has done. Paired with a truly dreadful, tease-worthy maiden name I think I’ve always had a real disconnect from it

Petrichor11 that is exactly it. I can say my name and be me but when others use it especially out loud or in writing it is odd, disconnected.

I hate saying the shortened version of my name. And hearing it. Sadly it's what everyone calls me. I loved starting new jobs and being able to just go by my full name. When I return to work, I'm going to make sure I get a job where nobody knows me, just so I can be my long name again.

My name, both long and short, is very common. It doesn't sound quite as weird on other people.

I refer to myself in my head as the long-form of my name (think Victoria), everyone else including family uses various short versions (Vic, Vicky, Vicks, etc), and when I introduce myself I will use a short version (that I don't even like).

I don't feel like I should really be called any of them.

Yes! I feel totally disconnected from my name! I have various nicknames from different groups of people and I only like being called by those names. I've never understood why. I don't dislike it or anything but it just sounds weird and doesn't feel like me? I also feel weird when calling my husband by his real name, like I'm acting all sensible or something.

Yes! I hate when people say my name, esp dh. I used to have lots of close friends who would call me by the shortened version but now no one does, I used to like that version. But my proper name, no. Like others said it’s a disconnected feeling. Sorry but I’m glad others feel the same, always thought it was just me!!

I hate my name! I had nothing but bullying at school about my name.
It is unusual and old fashioned and I don’t think it is me.

I urged people to not call their baby my name! I am considering changing my name in the new year, I hate it that much! People very kindly gave me lots of suggestions!

I don't mind my forename but when people call me Mrs blah (married name) I just don't connect with it. Even when I say it, despite having been married nearly 20yrs, I don't like it. I prefer to be forename maiden surname (I've kept this for all official document and it's what I use for the NHS and bank, social media). That is the name I feel identifies me.

Me too. My name is ordinary and doesn’t shorten well (although I have tried getting people to use the shortened versions to give it a more friendly sound). Would love a nick name that felt it belonged to me as don’t feel that with my actual name. Even ‘DS’s mum’ feels more me than my name.

I know what you mean. I think my name is quite staid sounding. Like say Margaret. But not Margaret. Just older than I am.

I neither like nor dislike my name. When I hear it, it just sounds weird to me.

Nobody really uses my name!! Have only known 1 other of my name. All my dc's friends think its weird!! Have no idea why I have it either apart from a song from the 70 's!!
Should have changed it years ago tbh!!
Def doesn't feel like me having this name but not sure who I could have been!!
