To not really want to work anymore?

I am 50 and although I have enjoyed working in the past, I would prefer never to work again. I feel I have done enough. It is not an option, I have to work for another 17 years. But anyone else feel like this?

I am 37 and feel like that.

I love my job, but if I won the lottery I woodknt be doing it.

Dont most people feel like this?

Do they? I didn't used to. I really feel like I have had enough of working and it depresses me that I will have to work for another 17 years.

I’m 38 and happy enough working but by 50 I expect I’ll be taking looooong holidays and a cushy number. I am happy working hard for now.

Why do you need to work another 17 years? Is it mortgage related? Do you have a pension?

Could you do some number crunching / see an IFA to see if any lifestyle / property / pension decisions could enable you to retire at 55-60?

Yep I feel like this....age 47 work a 50 hour week and that barely covers my outgoings....I'll never be able to retire or reduce my hours

Yes. I work FT and I could have written your post, OP. 67 looks a very, very long way away so I am doing everything I can to optimise work/life balance in the meantime.

I really want to find a job I love. Still thinking!!

I’m on the train on my way home from work.... I’m starting to feel this at 49... especially with 3 hours commuting a day on top. I would miss my buddies at work though if I left.

I’m 56. 11 years to go I shouldn’t wish my life away I know but it can’t come quick enough for me. So tired. I’ve done 40 years couple of years off with the kids but that’s all.

YANBU. I was delighted to have a baby in my late 30s, giving me an excuse to footer about with various part time bits and pieces for the next decade at least while I look after my kid. By the time he flies the next I'll be in my 50s. I can probably get away with never working full time again. Bliss!

@Youngatheart00 Yes I will have a small pension to top up the state pension at 67. If I retired on my small pension at 55 I would have an extremely poverty stricken 12 years where I would not be able to put the heating on when I wanted to and have to count every penny. It would be a miserable existence.

Yup OP, I’ve had enough of work for sure. Sadly I remortgaged my house so it will be forever that I will be working to pay it off. I’m knackered though. Can’t imagine working at 67.

I must go see what my pension is sitting at. I can take it from now but it will likely be buttons. Even though I paid into it from my 20s. Prob like £20 a week as it would be reduced if I didn’t wait til state pension age

A few years older than you but I feel exactly the same. However now being single, I’m not sure how I’ll cope financially then either. But too tired to worry about it right now 😕

Christ I only had 1 year off. I used to be so hard working. And yes tired is a good description. I am glad though I am not working somewhere with lots of corporate bullshit, I would find that hard to take. My tolerance for any bullshit is much lower than it used to be.

I'm in the same position. Another 15 years to go and just so weary. I've always worked and enjoyed my job but it just feels like all I do is work and sleep now. I'm so knackered by the end of the day I have no time for me.

I hear you OP. I work for company with much corporate bullshit! I am trying to leavr..I do not want to return to Nhs though as it can be almost as corporate in attitude as private sector. I have had enough of people..not patients or families but all the other crap.

I paid into my pension from 22 as well. Maybe it is just the menopause and I will find enthusiasm again once I am through it?

Do you think you could be menopausal? And perhaps you could consider seeing the dr? I have noticed my energy levels have dropped through the floor. I am late forties, and I have never felt so damn tired in my life.

I would ask for a blood test and discuss options (as I am going to do) If it is just simply the volume of work you are doing, you may not be able to retire but can you cut your hours slightly even? Or get a job that is better paid so you might retire earlier than expected.

I don't think we are designed to work really hard at this age and raise children. My parents had adult children and were definitely having an easier time at this stage.

Yup - am 54, feel just the same. I do have to put up with corporate bullshit; work in marketing so there is a lot of that. I definitely am more cynical than I should be. What else can I do? That’s the trouble; it’s the same old stuff and if you’ve done it for 30 years you can’t really do anything else!

@Considermesometimes Oh yes I am in peri menopause! Been to Dr, all is normal apart from that. And I have cut my hours and taken on an easier job. I can't actually do any more. I could not manage my old job that was very long hours.
