The creepy **** on the shelf

I make no apologies for my anger towards 'Elf on the shelf'. I absolutely loathe the creepy thing and I don't quite know where the hatred stems from. Maybe I have unresolved childhood issues or maybe I have a deep burning love for him- it's a mystery.
I want the whole 'tradition' to turn back round and disappear.
Does anyone want to come to therapy with me that shares similar hatred- it will be cheaper.

Just don't get involved. It's a none issue. Ignore. Disengage. Don't judge those that like it. Get a hobby.

I think people over think the damn elf every year.

Sausagis · 17/11/2019 21:50

I was furious when my husband brought one home (all proud of himself). I told him it was all his job. He now regrets it.

Iceburglettuce · 17/11/2019 21:53

@comedycentral you are part of the Elf club arnt you.

BIWI · 17/11/2019 21:54

Why did you type ?

It's not even the right number of characters!

And what's wrong with typing 'elf'?

BIWI · 17/11/2019 21:55

Sorry - OP didn't quote me properly! Why did you type * * * * , is what it should have said!

jomaIone · 17/11/2019 21:56

@BIWI I don't think the word she **'d the word elf 🤣

Just don't do it, what's the big deal!

BIWI · 17/11/2019 21:58

She did, in the title of the thread!

nokidshere · 17/11/2019 22:00

@Iceburglettuce Do you do it at home?

If not why do you care? If you do, why?

vintagesewingmachine · 17/11/2019 22:02

It's a tacky imported "tradition". The elf dolls are creepy and none will ever darken our door. We have our own long held traditions, thankyouverymuch. If my normally sensible friends post elf on the shelf shit on social media, I just chalk it down to tinsel insanity and scroll on by.

MitziK · 17/11/2019 22:04

The word asterixed out wasn't elf, I suspect.

I think it's a similar principle to (some) Catholic schools having crucifixes and pictures of Jesus on every wall - it's to remind the child that Jesus/God/Santa is ALWAYS WATCHING YOU.

Blueshadow · 17/11/2019 22:05

Do you need to think about it at all? Several of my work colleagues would bore me every morning by letting me know what their elf had been up to last night in a relentlessly twee posted to Facebook way. But apart from that it has never been on my radar. I am simply looking forward to my chocolate advent calendar. Which will not be shared.

Iceburglettuce · 17/11/2019 22:05

It was a 'fill in with relevant insult gap'
No I don't do it at home because the little thing creeps me out. I happily scroll on by every time but each time I see a friend post an Elf pic a little part of me judges them 😄

cakeandchampagne · 17/11/2019 22:06

It’s creepy- and has never been in my home.

Blueshadow · 17/11/2019 22:08

Mine neither. Dd would have been petrified (she was the kind of child who would not eat chocolate shaped animals).

midnightmisssuki · 17/11/2019 22:09

so maybe don't do it then - surely people just do what they like?

happygoluckyhippo · 17/11/2019 22:10

@Iceburglettuce I also have a rather strong irrational dislike for the elf. Not cute, not funny, not gonna happen in my home. Creepy, ugly and annoying.

nocoolnamesleft · 17/11/2019 22:12

I was assuming you were asterisking alliteration, rather than rhyme, which would give the right number of letters...

Iceburglettuce · 17/11/2019 22:13

@nocoolnamesleft Wheel of fortune is your game show!

Rosebel · 17/11/2019 22:14

Yeah, they are creepy and I hate them. I have and never will buy one. We sell them at work and they freak me out. Also don't see the point of them.

Inebriati · 17/11/2019 22:14

tinsel insanity pmsl [thgrin]

MrsBlondie · 17/11/2019 22:23

Hate the things. Never existed with my son (now 13) so we dont do it. But my daughter (age 7) thinks she has been naughty for not having one.
Hate all these new "traditions"

jomaIone · 17/11/2019 22:24

@BIWI it wasn't though... It was an insult instead of the word elf!

novasglowx · 17/11/2019 22:27

I hate it.
This will be the third year I have to persevere with it.
I sat down last month and made a list of everything it could do, well in advance so I'm not caught on the hop this year.
Minimal effort day to day, and good riddance to the fucking thing on the 24th.

AllStarBySmashMouth · 17/11/2019 22:29

I hate that terrifying wee shit and his rosy cheeks and pervy stare. He can stay on the shelf at the shop.

comedycentral · 17/11/2019 22:32

No I'm not. God no.
