I’m 37 and also suspect I’m in a thing before the thing before the menopause. General aches and pains, tired, tearful and cycles have got a few days shorter over the last 12 months. Maybe it’s just late-30s-itis?

jimmyhill · 13/11/2019 21:19

Only at Nando's

FuckyNel · 13/11/2019 21:20

Hahahahaha

PrincessHoneysuckle · 13/11/2019 21:21

Yep I'm definitely suffering from late 30s itis and its shit!

Nando's?

Peri-peri sauce - mildly amusing Grin

PrincessHoneysuckle · 13/11/2019 21:24

@Theoriginal oh right! Sorry I'm slow on the uptake it's been a long day

You can’t be peri-menopausal if you haven’t commit homicide to the Nando’s pisstakes!

All joking aside, in my experience it started very slowly and took about 6 years before it was overt enough for me to think ‘derrrr, it might be this’.

Go with it (well, you gotta!) I took HRT and I am sure it prevented several violent deaths.

I had to come off it following a heart attack this year (aged 52) but not had a period since (I think the HA scared it all away). I’ve felt fine since then apart from feeling hot after eating dinner.

Mallowmarshmallow · 13/11/2019 21:32

Yep, me too. I'm 38 and feel like I'm probably peri peri menopausal or suffering from late 30-itis.

A few years ago I lost a fair bit of weight through improving my diet and then put it back on. Now, I cannot lose the weight again for love nor money. Either diet alone or exercise alone is not going to cut it. I'm going to have to do both....forever....for the rest of my life. Soooo boring!

Whatkatyforgottodo · 13/11/2019 21:33

I’m 39 and have also been thinking this! My periods have changed, my pmt is absolutely horrendous and I’m generally miserable and anxious all the time. Was contemplating going to the gp to see if I’m depressed but now wondering if I should actually be asking about hrt!

Aquamarine1029 · 13/11/2019 21:34

Your doctor is very, very wrong, as are so many doctors when it comes to peri-menopause. Go see someone else, preferably a specialist who knows what they're talking about.

gemdrop84 · 13/11/2019 21:43

I was actually talking to my friend about this this morning. I'm 36 and for the last 6-7 months I've started getting heavier periods which are more irregular than they used to be, Insomnia and headaches before my period, extreme fatigue during. I occasionally get hot flushes that rise up from my torso and, I feel like I'm burning from the inside, usually during the night waking me up. I don't feel right either, am more low/anxious but think I'd be laughed out of my GPs for being too young for such things.

Cryalot2 · 13/11/2019 21:43

My mum went through an early menopause so at 40 I thought me to. Body had different ideas. At 50 the moods were dire and I who was so strong ,cried continuously. The odd hot flush and my memory went awol . Finally last period age 56.
No hrt .I did get a councellor eventually who I still use when I need to .
Friend struggled on hrt and could not get off it.
Its not that bad.

CatUnderTheStairs · 13/11/2019 21:46

I was feeling shit late 30s, and go mentioned peri when I was 36. She was spot on. Anxiety. Periods from hell, anger....

CatUnderTheStairs · 13/11/2019 21:46

Oh, hormonal contraceptives tried first, didn’t work, then HRT.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 13/11/2019 21:55

How would the gp know if I need hrt?

reetgood · 13/11/2019 22:18

Yeah me too - doctors took bloods and have run a few things (thyroid, iron levels, hormones) on the back of me coming in with what I swear were hot flushes that felt distinctly hormonal. Like my internal thermostat had gone wonky? Also weight gain, crying, not wanting to get out of bed on one day, anxiety.

There are some confounding factors for me: I have a 22 month old crap sleeper! I found the GP I saw was very helpful in basically doing the necessary to rule things out. He said when I told him that it felt hormonal that three months of data was kind of the minimum they needed to see a pattern. He said bloods were likely to come back normal in which case track, and come back if there’s new symptoms I’m concerned by. I’d tracked the hot flushes, but I haven’t tracked my menstrual cycle since trying to conceive so now tracking and wondering when I last actually had a period... Peri peri seems accurate given the hot flushes (which have now disappeared). Please God let this not be the new normal for PMS for the next 10 years....

reetgood · 13/11/2019 22:19

I’m 39 and definitely did not get laughed out of the doctors for considering this!

WLAH · 13/11/2019 22:26

Following with interest. Late 30s here.

Advicewel · 13/11/2019 22:30

My periods have got regular, in my teens and twenties they were all over the place but since hit late 30s they are regular, I'm terrified of the menopause due to the horror stories my workmates tell me as they are older and going thru the menopause

mintcucumber · 13/11/2019 22:33

Perimenopause can last 10 years so no, late 30s isn’t too early for it.

TokyoSushi · 13/11/2019 22:34

I'm 39, I'm 100% sure that this is a thing, dreadful. I must go to the GP!

motortroll · 13/11/2019 22:41

Yes I have that!! Peri peri menopause is definitely a thing! My doc said I'm too young for peri (42) so must be peri peri!!

Exhausted, random sweating

Aquamarine1029 · 13/11/2019 22:41

How would the gp know if I need hrt

Due to your symptoms, which are classic peri-menopause, btw. Blood tests are usually useless because of the constant fluctuations in their levels. DO NOT allow your needs to be dismissed and ignored.

IHaveBrilloHair · 13/11/2019 22:45

I'm 41 and had the blood tests and was told I'm not peri, but I'm convinced I am.
I have every symptom, but I don't want to be one of those people who insists they have something wrong when they don't.

IHaveBrilloHair · 13/11/2019 22:46

My periods are all over the place, my moods are all over the place, but its the sweating, dear god the fucking sweating.
