@IHaveBrilloHair

Blood tests are not helpful for "diagnosing" peri. You need a different doctor.

Skysblue · 13/11/2019 23:02

Yep. And GPs know virtually nothing about female health.

tillytrotter1 · 13/11/2019 23:13

Only at Nando's

My thought exactly!!

Twinkletoenails · 13/11/2019 23:32

I'm 39. My cycle has also become at least a couple of days shorter. Have also noticed that I have awful PMT for half the monthSad

Branleuse · 13/11/2019 23:39

See a different doctor.
By the time you're 40, you're running on about 20%of the oestrogen you had at 20, and that can have all sorts of effects, while youre still officially fertile.
I think a lot of women are misdiagnosed with things such as anxiety, depression, fatigue , around this age and would perk right up with a low dose of HRT

GrumpyHoonMain · 14/11/2019 00:38

Have you had your thyroid tested? Both hypo and hyper can cause anxiety. Anxiety in women, especially if a new symptom, can often be the first sign of serious heart problems so it’s a good idea to get a full cardiac work up if possible. Don’t assume it’s peri-menopause until everything else has been ruled out.

SerafinaPekkalasbroomstick · 14/11/2019 01:09

Wow so I wonder if the gp app I have scheduled on Mon to talk about how I am in a rage at the drop of a hat and basically hate my life should also cover the fact I'm so hot on occasion I feel physically sick and I have newly really heavy periods.... I'm 37. My mum said she was done and dusted with the menopause by 44 too...

BenjiB · 14/11/2019 01:15

I’m 47 and I’m post menopause. My periods stopped 2 years ago. Peri can last for years so I probably started in my early 40’s. I dint think there’s such a thing as peri peri menopause though, just peri.

Countryescape · 14/11/2019 02:14

I’m sure I have this. 39, hot, flush sometimes, bad memory, period getting lighter and lighter which is weird because my periods have always been really heavy. Anxious and weepy. It’s not fun!!!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/11/2019 07:00

@GrumpyHoonMain I'm on thyroid medication and had blood done not long ago, came back ok

Urgh it's horrible isn't it. I saw the GP 2 yrs ago who basically laughed me out of the consulting room. I have noticed things getting progressively worse the last 3 months, anxious, brain fog and hot flushes during the night. Periods well they are pretty non existent but I do blame that on the coil that has moved as the threads have disappeared which probably means surgical removal. It's not just me noticing changes either as DH has been gingerly broaching the subject.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/11/2019 08:03

I've just booked a female gp appointment for in 2 weeks I'm determined to get to the bottom of this!

There's a menopause section on mumsnet - lots of great advice, plus I find it helpful to read others' experiences. It varies so much: sounds like your GP is basically ill-informed.

JorisBonson · 14/11/2019 08:37

I'm 35 and awaiting bloods and scans for various reasons - one of them could be this peri peri menopause. FUN.

Trooperslaneagain · 14/11/2019 08:40

Doc laughed me away too. Two years ago. I'm 46. My Mum had a full hysterectomy at 42 and had been suffering for at least 3-4 years.

I'm back for a row next week. I'm all over the shop.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/11/2019 09:05

I think I'm going to ask (beg) for low dose hrt

I'm 42 and I've felt like this since I was 38, with irregular periods. I went to the doctor, he was very dismissive and said I was too young. I did a home FSH test and it came back as negative. Then I had a baby age 39! I did another test age 42 and it came back as negative again. I'm now 2 months pregnant again! So I don't think it is (peri) peri menopause, I think it's just late 30s+itis lol.

NotTheMrMenAgain · 14/11/2019 09:30

I'm 44 soon and have been wondering for a while if there's something going on - I'm tired, everything seems like an effort and I'm getting twinges and aches that I'd expect of an OAP! I hurt my foot sliding it into a slipper FFS! I don't track my periods because I can tell what part of the cycle I'm on, but I know they've been further apart - feels like I have an extra week or so of PMS waiting for it to start. I get the brain hiccups where I can't think of a word or remember someone's name, but to be honest I've been that way since DD was born 11 years ago. Might see about booking a GP appointment....

The80sweregreat · 14/11/2019 09:33

There is a peri menopause but mine didn't hit till my late forties really. I know some women can have all these much earlier.
It's horrible but there is a lot of help in the menopause threads on here. I found herbal tablets to be very helpful.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/11/2019 09:20

Bit of an update.Got a same day appointment yesterday as symptoms were really bad.Saw a dr who is sending me for hormonal bloods after I'd been told by a different doctor that this couldnt be done.If they come back that I'm in peri I can start hrt Smile

CatUnderTheStairs · 16/11/2019 13:17

But they v unlikely to come back with Nything conclusive as your hormones all over the place and they should go on symptoms. So if they hum and ha afterwards push for something.

I didn't and naffed about for two years unnecessarily

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/11/2019 15:13

@CatUnderTheStairs I'm definitely going to push
