To think thyme doesn't belong in chocolate?

Dp's friend has brought me my favourite brand of chocolate back from Holland but couldn't read the writing so just picked any. It's thyme and honeycombe. Why?? Obviously I'm soldiering on and eating it but it's just a bit... odd.

AIBU to think thyme has no place in chocolate? Is it actually a thing and I had no idea?

Christ, no! Who is responsible for this abomination? Is it just a Dutch thing, like the Finns and their bizarre attachment to liquorice-flavoured stuff?

Iamthewombat · 05/11/2019 22:34

Is it Tony Chocolonely or whatever? They have gone down in my estimation if so.

rickandmorts · 05/11/2019 22:36

Yeah it's Tony's @Iamthewombat Sad. The others flavours are amazing.. my favourite is the caramel and sea salt but this is just wrong 😭

Herb flavours are very trendy in Belgian and French chocolate just now, chilli and rose petal are very last year! Grin Grin

nevergotthehangofthursdays · 05/11/2019 22:40

I agree OP. Marmite in chocolate is even worse. Envy

Ohffs66 · 05/11/2019 22:41

We have this. It tastes like sausages. Weirdly the chai and turmeric one was amazing, which I was not expecting!

rickandmorts · 05/11/2019 22:45

Eurgh I am not a fan of herb flavours @AdaColeman

Maramite @nevergotthehangofthursdays 😪😪😪 just why, its sacrilege!

@Ohffs66 really? I may have to try that but I'm wary now. This tastes like I'm eating it post roast dinner and the remnants of thyme roasties are still in my mouth Envy

Somebody brought a bar of marmite chocolate into our office ‘to try’. It lay untouched for weeks until the cleaners chucked it out.

Tony’s are letting the side down! Herbs have no place in confectionery. I think posh ‘chocolatiers’ are taking the piss with their winky wanky flavours. I don’t want bloody cardamom or lemongrass in a chocolate. I want a nice hazel in caramel or a ganache.

PickAChew · 05/11/2019 23:10

What a waste of lovely thyme.

Iamthewombat · 05/11/2019 23:11

Somebody has to stick up for the herbs, or it’s not a fair fight.

Melroses · 05/11/2019 23:11

I like thyme in a lot of things, but not chocolate and honeycomb Envy

tulippa · 05/11/2019 23:13

Oh no that sounds horrible! I foolishly bought a soft drink the other week with rosemary in. It was rank - like drinking sweet roast potatoes! They need to keep herbs away from sweet stuff - with the exception of mint maybe.

fitflopqueen · 05/11/2019 23:18

we have a bar of of lavender infused chocolate lurking in the cupboard, came in a hamper, no interest in it, all the other stuff just disappears!

Dieu · 05/11/2019 23:33

Totally with you, OP!

KnightandDay · 05/11/2019 23:42

Sounds horrendous! What a disappointment :(

Besidesthepoint · 06/11/2019 04:56

Next time buy verkade.

Durgasarrow · 06/11/2019 05:28

just whyyyyyy

Fuzzywuzzyhadnohair · 06/11/2019 06:05

@tulippa I bought that same drink Envy it was rank!

Just because you can put something into something else, doesn’t mean you should.

rickandmorts · 06/11/2019 06:06

Haha yeah they are definitely taking the piss Grin.

And no herbs do not belong in sweet stuff!! Glad I'm not BU, I thought there was a memo I'd missed.

Ahhh DH did this to me - I was unimpressed. It was like eating soap!

Iamthewombat · 06/11/2019 08:17

Is the rosemary drink the one in the white bottle trying to be a gin mixer (in the tort of passing off, in my view)?

I have seen it, and other variants flavoured with stuff like meadowsweet and thought, can it be as terrible as it sounds?

Thanks @tulippa and @Fuzzywuzzyhadnohair for clearing that up!

WarmSausageTea · 06/11/2019 08:25

It’s also very wrong as a crisp flavour.

user1488464056 · 06/11/2019 08:40

My personal favourite is Bacon chocolate from the U.S. available in milk or plain, can't remember the brand. Also from a food market in Philadelphia, bacon rashers (the American type that shatters if you drop it) dipped in chocolate.....amazing!
