Mammylamb · 04/11/2019 17:58

I have dry socket which kept me up all night. Been to dentist for antibiotics.

Work seem to be fine with me being off but I feel.guilty as its.just my teeth rather than proper illness.

I haven't had dry socket but have had a wisdom tooth infection and it is one of the most painful things I experienced. I couldn't have gone to work. How is something that requires antibiotics not a 'proper illness'?

Basketofkittens · 04/11/2019 18:01

Why would you feel guilty? You are off for a good reason, not skiving.

Maybe I don’t have the guilt gene but a job really is just that...a job!

Theresnobslikeshowbs · 04/11/2019 18:17

Ds has just had an abscess which has caused complications. I would go through child birth 8 times a day, then witness him go through that pain again. Any pain in the head- toothache, ear ache, Headaches, migraines are all horrible pains. Only you know how well you are doing with the pain, but it’s not unreasonable to be off.

thedevilinablackdress · 04/11/2019 18:21

Dental infections are painful!
Chuck those 'proper illness' ideas out of the window.

MissSkate · 04/11/2019 18:22

Yanbu. I've had dry socket twice, it's worse than giving birth!

alwaysdancing · 04/11/2019 18:23

I've had dry socket. YANBU. It was horrific.

areyoubeingserviced · 04/11/2019 18:27

I have had three children and nothing compares with the pain I endured when I had an infected wisdom tooth.
You are not well. Don’t feel guilty

Farfromtheusual · 04/11/2019 18:29

YANBU. I've never had dry socket but I'd rather chop my nipples off than have toothache.

CottonSock · 04/11/2019 18:29

I went home from work with a tooth abscess. Burst into tears at work as I couldn't cope with pain.
My friend had dry socket and it sounds even worse.
Stay home and rest.

PennyNotSoWise · 04/11/2019 18:32

YANBU.

If work are okay with it, don't feel guilty. I think toothache is the fucking worst pain in the world, truly. I'd rather give birth.

Hope it eases for you soon OP.

Mammylamb · 04/11/2019 18:33

The pain comes and goes. It's sore, but not worse than period pain. Mind you I had a c section and that was less painful than period pain

Whatsername7 · 04/11/2019 18:35

I had an abscess and the pain was worse than childbirth. YANBU to take time off.

PrimalLass · 04/11/2019 18:36

I'd rather have two more c sections than one more dental infection.

Pinkypurple35 · 04/11/2019 18:42

Dry socket is awful - far worse than a ‘normal’ infection. It made me feel like I could rip my own head off to stop the pain. wouldn’t think being off sick give it a second thought OP.

ilovesooty · 04/11/2019 18:43

You're ill. Stop feeling guilty and get better.

fantasmasgoria1 · 04/11/2019 18:44

I have had dry socket and it's no joke. I think you are right to have time off for it. You could in no way concentrate with that level of pain. It's like sciatica of the mouth! (I have sciatica so I know). I hope it gets better soon.

PumpkinPie2016 · 04/11/2019 19:00

YANBU - I had to have 3 days off earlier this year when I got an infection in the gum around and under my wisdom tooth Sad

Ended up on strong painkillers and antibiotics. It was bloody painful and I felt awful! Honestly, I would gladly have allowed the dentist to pull the tooth out there and then - not necessary thankfully - it's a pefectly healthy tooth Grin

Take the time off - anyone who has suffered tooth pain will be sympathetic. Even those who haven't should understand.

Mammylamb · 04/11/2019 20:38

I grind my teeth due to medication that I take. This broke one of my teeth (would wake to up with bits of teeth in my mouth). Tried a dressing and then an abscess formed. In the end I had to get the tooth removed last week, and have now ended up with dry socket. Thouroughly fed up. I was at work last week, but can’t actuallt remember very much about the week, and don’t think I was properly focused on my work

Good Lord OP. I just had a perfectly straightforward wisdom tooth extraction and I still couldn't function normally for a couple of days. The infection I had earlier in the year doesn't bear recalling. Take the time and I hope you feel much better very soon! Flowers

MrsL2016 · 04/11/2019 22:07

@mammylamb that sounds awful. I clench my teeth when I sleep and now use a mouth guard I got made at the dentist. Has yours suggested one of those? They are pricey if you pay for treatment, luckily I got mine on my maternity exemption card.

Mammylamb · 04/11/2019 22:22

I’ve got a mouth guard but pull it out during the night! Feeling awful sorry for myself just now. And very guilty about being off today and possibly tomorrow

Vampyress · 04/11/2019 22:24

I pushed out an 11lb baby and it was less painful than a tooth abcess I had, YANBU

TiddyTid · 04/11/2019 22:33

Don't feel guilty!! Hope you feel better soon Thanks

Kaddm · 05/11/2019 06:58

Holy shit op
That is a proper illness!
Nothing to feel guilty about

Mammylamb · 05/11/2019 07:31

Very sore right now. Had to force myself to eat so I could have ibuprofen
