If you want to know how to get chocolate out of grouting - Brillo Pads are the biz.

Oh dear. Disaster. If it helps I made the world's worst banana bread this afternoon. It actually came out smaller in volume than when it went in the oven and it bends like rubber. I am normally quite good at cakes.Blush

CoraPirbright · 30/10/2019 19:42

I did a white chocolate mousse recipe a couple of times. It was a Gordon Ramsay one with raspberries and mint. The first time, it was beautiful and went down a storm with my friends, the second time it just didnt set and I was like Blush err does anyone want a straw?

Never Again.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 30/10/2019 19:54

I know I shouldn't - but this has made me laugh! Thank you for cheering up an otherwise crappy day!

73Sunglasslover · 30/10/2019 19:59

I have so many stories. I'm actually jealous that you made something which was inedible before it got dropped! I think my guests often wish I had dropped their meal on the floor...

👎🏼

I once baked a banana bread at once that never cooked. I’d made them 100s of times but this - I left it in longer. then 2 then 3 hours and still they still it was banana blancmange.

Please tell me you just scooped it off the floor and carried on?!

I feel your pain, OP Grin

Just run out and buy some gü puddings and don't let on. Hide the packaging.

I made a chilli in the slow cooker a while ago and, fearing it was a bit bland, put more dark chocolate in. That made it too chocolatey so I added some tomato puree but that made it too bitter so I added some sugar. After that, it still wasn't right so I ground up some more cumin and coriander seeds to stir in but accidentally dropped the mortar into the pot and made a spectacular mess. Chilli was everywhere: the worktops, the wall, the cooker top, under the cupboards, on the cupboard doors, on the floor, on the ceiling and everything. It took ages to clean up and I still find occasional chilli splashes now.

I did actually serve what was left and it tasted nice though Grin

I made a pesto and tomato tart I can usually make in my sleep.....dropped tomatoes on the floor, sent baking beads in all directions and set fire to a piece of lining paper. Then i cooked the baking beans IN the pastry and had to pick them out and, for the grand finale, burnt it to buggery.

MT2017 · 30/10/2019 21:44

Our oven indicator has 2 lines, like this -> =

SO many times we used the single line. Which signifies the grill.

Bloody stupid design Hmm

purplecorkheart · 30/10/2019 21:47

Hosting a dinner party for 6 of my colleagues and their spouses. Made a chocolate and lime mousse. Had it all in serving glasses etc and notice I had lost a fingernail.

LemonPrism · 30/10/2019 22:45

I always buy a backup because while my friends rave about my cooking.... my desserts have raised many eyebrows.

Liquid cake is my bane. I should stick to no bake banoffee

MT2017 · 30/10/2019 23:38

@purplecorkheart 🤮😷

hadenough · 30/10/2019 23:42

You have my total and absolute sympathy!

I once spent hours slow cooking some beef. I really laboured over it. Doing a red wine sauce, sealing the meat, cutting all the herbs.

Put in the oven for 4 hours, feeling quite proud.

Went to get it out of the oven, did it incorrectly and at an angle due to poor oven gloves. The whole thing went to the floor.

I could have cried.

user1473878824 · 31/10/2019 00:40

@hadenough by that point I wouldn’t have told anyone 🙈

Sparklfairy · 31/10/2019 00:48

hadenough did you say anything?!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 31/10/2019 00:49

Not a posh dinner party, but while making tea tonight I managed to knock over a bottle of dark fruits cider, one of the teens had left teetering on the edge of a cupboard shelf.

An explosion of sticky blackcurrant and broken glass all over the kitchen floor.

I might have had a bit of a breakdown while lovely DH mopped it all up.

hadenough · 31/10/2019 00:56

I couldn't face serving it knowing what had happened.

I made a quick pasta dish. DH was happy to eat it over the weekend though. But it did spoil the occasion for me, mainly because I really did think I was cooking something genuinely nice.

But these things happen.

AzraiL · 31/10/2019 01:03

I made a Turkish syrup cake for guests. It's best if it's made the day before and left to absorb the syrup overnight. It looked and smelled divine. I was ecstatic and pleased with my efforts. Cut into it the next evening, it had deflated and taken on the consistency of a rubber eraser. Shock

TheSilveryPussycat · 31/10/2019 01:04

Began making a rich chocolate cake, which before baking is a smooth and slightly batter. Poued said batter into my 20 in springform cake tin. Picked up cake tin to put into the oven...

I had failed to close the spring bit before pouring in the batter. Which plopped in a pool over the worktop.

I managed to rescue most of it, and it turned out very nice.

TheSilveryPussycat · 31/10/2019 01:05

*slightly runny

happymrsc · 31/10/2019 01:06

Not tonight but I made soup recently that was literally just gravy. No idea how, but it was not good!

Gossipjunkie22 · 31/10/2019 01:14

Made bannoffee pie once as part of dm n df's anniversary Dinner, it hadn't set n when I took the cake tin off it plopped right out 😢
