To ask people to use full nicknames?

I joined MN a long time (Queen Victoria had just become queen 😁) and chose my nickname, Rainbow. All was good with the world until many others decided to join MN and used variations of my name. Rainbow1, rainbowsparkles, rainbowcolours etc etc. No problem with it but when other people tag them in a post, they just use @Rainbow and I get notified that I have been mentioned in a comment. My inbox is now starting to complain that it connot handle the 150,000 emails it receives each day saying that I have been mentioned. It is threatening to quit 🤯. How will I cope without an inbox? I get my bills sent online as well as useful stuff like offers for things I have never heard over nor do I want and petitions I might like to sign to ensure all young ants are well cared for should their parents be accidentally trodden on.
I have tried changing my name but that doesn't work. People still tagged Rainbow and I got an email.
To tag someone is really easy. At the bottom is an @ symbol. Click it and all the commenters names are there.
So AIBU to ask people to use people's full nickname so that my inbox doesn't quit?

Settings and turn off notifications. Easy.

YANBU. It's lazy - the whole point of tagging someone is that you attract that poster's attention, it doesn't work if you abbreviate their name.

But I'm reasonably certain that there's a way of turning them off.

I got a few for some of my name changes that were meant for a poster with a longer name.

I turned off the notifications.

The easy solution would be to have a different email address for mn

I’m sorry you’ve been having annoying issues but from a selfish point of view I did not know that’s what the @ sign is for at the bottom- I’ve been here a while and always just type it out or make the op bold. Thank you for me but I’m sorry for you!

I get this with some of my other names. I switched the notifications off, I don't need them anyway.

I can change my name, join an MN panel, read the privacy policy, delete my account, turn off notifications for PM (I have), link a thread but cannot find notifications 😫

I switched them off too.

I do short forms because it feels friendlier but I just bold, never tag, because that feels sort of rude. And the people I’m talking to are usually on the thread anyway.

Then click Customize

Every time they send you an email notification the email has a link saying "manage your preferences here". If you click on it you can... manage your preferences.

No idea. I mailed a couple of times and had no response. I must admit I forgot about it then as very few people do it, only was reminded as someone repeatedly tagged me the other day!

Actually I’m going to try turning on and off again in manner of all tech problems and see how it goes!

Thanks JumpyLiz I havent got the notify by email box ticked so 🤞🏼I won't get anymore. If I do I'll read the thing (I don't normally) and try Cohle's idea 👍🏼
