To ask people to use full nicknames?

I joined MN a long time (Queen Victoria had just become queen 😁) and chose my nickname, Rainbow. All was good with the world until many others decided to join MN and used variations of my name. Rainbow1, rainbowsparkles, rainbowcolours etc etc. No problem with it but when other people tag them in a post, they just use @Rainbow and I get notified that I have been mentioned in a comment. My inbox is now starting to complain that it connot handle the 150,000 emails it receives each day saying that I have been mentioned. It is threatening to quit 🤯. How will I cope without an inbox? I get my bills sent online as well as useful stuff like offers for things I have never heard over nor do I want and petitions I might like to sign to ensure all young ants are well cared for should their parents be accidentally trodden on.
I have tried changing my name but that doesn't work. People still tagged Rainbow and I got an email.
To tag someone is really easy. At the bottom is an @ symbol. Click it and all the commenters names are there.
So AIBU to ask people to use people's full nickname so that my inbox doesn't quit?

You just post an @ in the reply box and they all come up below the box.

I have the same problem. I get notifications for all kinds of people who have longer versions of name changes... it's quite annoying because I do like to get notifications if someone is actually talking to me!

But notifications off does sort it out.

Abbreviations are fine. Abbreviations with an @ are nonsensical and inconsiderate.

I have an email address that I use just for here. Have done since Jeffery. I never check it.

Really? Surelyyou should only get a notification if someone uses your whole username. They must be sending hundreds of emails to anyone with name variations. Madness, madness I tell ya.

Slightly, you do get a notification in someone @‘s your whole name. The problem is that the OP has a short obvious name which people use as a shortening of other people’s longer names. So if I’m talking to RainbowTerrapin on a thread and I want to refer to her I could @RainbowTerrapin and that would go to her mailbox. But if I abbreviate that to Rainbow, and thoughtlessly put an @ on it then the OP will get the message.

Almost as soon as this was introduced I turned off the notifications.

I don't like being tagged, if I want to return to a thread I will, I don't need an email about it. Often I don't bother commenting on threads where the OP tags everyone, I find it annoying.

Before I turned it off I kept getting emails intend for someone else who had a similar username to a previous one of mine, that I hadn't used in years. That was weird.

Turn notifications off or change your name to a less popular one.

Changing name won't work because you still "own" the original name and thus would still get notifications for it.

Maybe would like to get emails when she has actually been tagged in a post though? It's just that she would like them to be meant for her, rather than some other flavour of rainbow.

Have you tried logging it with 101?

I also get emails saying that I have been tagged - on threads I haven't even been on.
I haven't seen any other Daphne Fanshaws so I am not sure how it's happening.
