Wiping from front to back. Or not...?

I swear I'm not a poo troll. Or a butt wiping troll.

Just that I've got cystitis and I've been reading up on the causes of cystitis and wiping from back to front causes it so I had a think about what I did.

And I do both 🤨

If it's a poo I wipe from the back. If it's just a wee I wipe from the front.
If I just do a wee, am I supposed to reach around behind me, underneath and all the way across to the front to wipe backwards?

Have I seriously got to nearly 40 and I've been doing it wrong all these years??

In our urology class we were actually told front to back.

You are supposed to always wipe from front to back so that bacteria do not gravitate up your urethra. Urine is sterile. Poo is most certainly not.

That's making it unnecessarily difficult, like reaching through your legs to wipe front to back rather than around.

Sorry to point out the obvious but when I go for a wee, there's no poo there to "wipe into my front holes".

I wipe backwards from perineum for poo (from behind) and pat dry at front for a wee (from front). I suspect that's what most people are describing here but there's so much room for misunderstanding you could swing a herd of cats.

@NoDontLookAtMeImShy ...I do it back to front...but I also have the ability to stop before anything reaches places it shouldn’t..always done it that way and I’ve never have any kind of UTI or infection despite lots of surgery there.
I can’t reach them do it the other way due to various disabilities so it works for me.

My understanding was you had to put your arm underneath from behind and wipe the whole thing backwards which is pretty much impossible unless you are a contortionist.

I've always done it this way, with ease and I'm FAR from flexible. Defo not "impossible".

Even if you're just wiping from the perineum? Agree it's impossible from any further forward. Is that a bit too graphic? I'm just trying to get to the bottom of the problem.

I’m surprised at how many people don’t target their wiping and just from the sounds of it do one big swipe, that’s the only reason it would make sense to me to go front to back.

But a surprising number of people aren’t at all familiar with their own anatomy. I remember that study where almost half of all women questioned were unable to point out the vagina on a diagram, and 60% had no idea where the vulva was on a diagram.

The number of shrieking ‘omggggg if you don’t wipe front to back you’re getting poo in your ‘front holes’/asking for cystitis’ responses is making me chuckle!
