To wear doc Martens

I'm 37, mum of 3 with a professional job. Would it be ridiculous for me to wear DMs? Mutton dressed as lamb? Tragic or fashionable at any age?!

YABU - mutton dressed as lamb
YANBU - where what you want when you want!

Shit I wear DM’s older than you, never occurred to me I’d look anything less than fabulous in them

Eemamc · 26/09/2019 14:13

I’m pretty much the same, except with one child. Just bought some second hand! I couldn’t afford them in the 90s... wearing them now!

summersherewishiwasnt · 26/09/2019 14:13

I meant I’m older than you. Not that my DM’s are older than you !Grin

AryaStarkWolf · 26/09/2019 14:14

Why are they only for young people? I never heard this before!!

whiskersonkittenss · 26/09/2019 14:15

DMs are good for any age! wear what you want.

user1474894224 · 26/09/2019 14:16

I bought some DM long zippy boots a few years ago. The quality was rubbish... I walked through a pair in 6 months - they exchanged them foc, I then walked through the next pair in 6 months. I couldn't be bothered to complain again.. ....fyi I'm older than you. Just make sure you buy the classic style not their fashion range.

OpiesOldLady · 26/09/2019 14:17

I've got an amazing pair of lilac glittery DMs to wear on my wedding day as i just can't do heels. My bridesmaids are flower girls will all be wearing DMs too.

YANBU say I.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 26/09/2019 14:18

Mutton dressed as lamb?

Whatever your take on that …… tis better than mutton dressed as mutton.

Seriously, DMs are fab. When Boris resigns and I'm PM, they'll be the only permitted footwear for the UK Grin

SweetNorthernRose · 26/09/2019 14:19

I got a pair for my 39th birthday last year so you're most definitely NBU

RubbingHimSourly · 26/09/2019 14:19

They aren't as good as they used to be.........I was a bit disappointed I no longer have to put them in a pillowcase and bash the hell out with them with a hammer to wear them in.

If you're going to get a pair, get a classic, vintage pair. They'll last longer than the appeal to the masses ones.

SweetNorthernRose · 26/09/2019 14:20

However YABU to give a crap what anyone else thinks! Grin

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 26/09/2019 14:20

Shit I wear DM’s older than you, never occurred to me I’d look anything less than fabulous in them

And there speaks the voice that we should all speak Smile

Brefugee · 26/09/2019 14:21

I'm still wearing one pair i bought in the 90s (football matches only, now) and have several other spiffy pairs. And shoes. Covered in those reversable sequins.
And I have worn them to Very Serious And Important Business Top Management Meetings (TM).

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/09/2019 14:24

Speaking of "in the 90s" -- on another board, someone's mother who is well over sixty has just bought a pair of bright yellow docs, and her daughter posted a picture. They look great and the mother looks very please with herself.

Katiepoes · 26/09/2019 14:26

Oh crap I'm 46 and have just counted 8 pairs - sandals, loafers, 8 hole boots, chelsea boots and my favourite super shiny patent shoes. I'm eyeing the velvet boots online...guess I'm mutton so. Mutton in FABULOUS footwear though.

Seriously nobody is ever too old for DMs. Has someone told you this? May I suggest you buy them then stomp on the toes of this fool?

Katiepoes · 26/09/2019 14:27

Also - Brefugee how do you keep the sequinned ones clean? I love them too

GemmeFatale · 26/09/2019 14:31

I hate you all. I want a sequin pair now

NuttyNutty · 26/09/2019 15:18

What's wrong with DMs?
I think they were for young people only when I myself was young, same as Marvel comics and scooters. They are for everyone now.
I love them. And also Caterpillar boots. They are cool and also comfy - the perfect combination!

TipToeToothFairy · 26/09/2019 15:46

I have glittery purple ones. Someone I dislike insulted them. It made me like them even more (the docs not the person) Grin

hazell42 · 26/09/2019 17:10

Im 54. Have several pairs, including a hright orange flowery pair can no longer wear heels, so have decide to embrace the boots
Go for it

Lifecraft · 26/09/2019 17:14

Its not class or ideology
colour creed or roots
the only thing that unites us
is Doctor Martens boots
hey

Doctor Marten gave his boots to the world
so that everybody could be free
they're classless matchless ageless and waterproof
and retail for only 19 pounds and 99p

Courtesy of Alexi Sayle.... £19.99 in 1981, a lot more now!)

Purplejay · 26/09/2019 17:16

Yabu to not just wear what you want!

AdobeWanKenobi · 26/09/2019 17:41

Just wear what you want.

Fully aware that there are folk out that that would have removed me from my docs and cut my long hair on my 40th but frankly, I've always dressed how I feel comfortable and I don't really intend on starting to give a damn what people think now.

You don't like my Docs or my maiden T Shirt? Fine, don't wear them. Meanwhile, I will and I'm comfy.

Brefugee · 27/09/2019 07:20

hopefully a picture because I love my sequin shoes (really tempted to go for the rainbow sequin 1460 boots now) (pls note the DM socks too)

Katiepoes - i keep them clean with a combination of being very careful about when i wear them, and damp cloths Grin

Also an avid wearer of band t-shirts here. if people don't like it, they can look away.

Brefugee · 27/09/2019 07:21

pfft. The pic was in the preview
