Marina Hyde is the goddess.

She's the only columnist I wait for all week.

Used to be Charlie Brooker too but he's packed up and left for Tinseltown.

Her column is making things more bearable.

tadpole39 · 06/09/2019 21:48

Also marina Hyde in today’s guardian, refers to “cain and far more able” for the Johnson brothers, it is hilarious.

wattytanker · 06/09/2019 21:53

Who knew you i'd one day howl to an episiotomy joke?

BiologyIsReal · 06/09/2019 21:56

Terribly forced humour - stop trying so hard Marina.

And this, a monty python sketch set to recent footage from the HoC.

I haven't laughed so much in ages, she certainly hasn't held back!!

😀

claptomania · 06/09/2019 22:58

Oh that’s so good

LittleMy20 · 06/09/2019 23:11

Funny and angry and brilliant. I love her.

AccioCats · 07/09/2019 00:09

I’d like her a lot more if she wasn’t the privately schooled Oxford educated daughter of a Baron.

Patroclus · 07/09/2019 00:14

Seeing all the humourles arses who told us he was the 2nd coming now obviously feeling like prats is most enjoyable

ChChChChangez · 07/09/2019 00:23

YABU. The piece is a very lengthy mixed metaphor. The episiotomy gag isn’t even especially apt, just faux-daring.

BigChocFrenzy · 07/09/2019 00:34

"I’d like her a lot more if she wasn’t the privately schooled Oxford educated daughter of a Baron."

I grew up very poor
I used to hate it when I got judged for that

Judge everyone on their actions, not the circumstances in which they grew up

AccioCats · 07/09/2019 00:48

Chcchchchanges agree, I actually found that a bit yuck, not that I’m a prude at all, it’s just not funny

Caucho · 07/09/2019 01:23

I don’t care that she’s posh but do find it funny that the majority of Guardian columnists who posh bash are often posher than their target. The only minuscule credit I’d ever give to Owen Jones (who I despise) is that when he fakes being a working class warrior he is only middle class and not one of the Polly Toynbee types. She was also a disastrous politician when he attempted to give it a whirl.

It’s like the papers Oxbridge hatred and the whole rebelling against the system and the old boys network. The majority of the journalists are upper middle class people who went to Oxbridge so maybe they could focus on their own house before putting the rest of the world to rights

Caucho · 07/09/2019 01:33

I do think she’s one of the few good writers there and can be very funny but she should steer clear about taking the piss about privately educated people on the basis they are privately educated.as opposed to their actions.

Prefer her non political articles. She’s very good on sports which seems her main focus

serenoa · 07/09/2019 01:52

Marina Hyde is brilliant, love her.

John Crace in the Guardian is also brilliant. He's parliamentary sketch writer. His columns are so descriptive but quite terrifying sometimes. I read one and often think 'great sketch but it wasn't as bad as that' then I watch PMQs afterwards. It was as bad as that. Hilarious but scary that this is real life.

Caucho · 07/09/2019 02:07

Grace is the best by a mile

Bahlindah · 07/09/2019 02:24

I haven't read anything by her previously (or at least, not that I have been aware of) but enjoyed that.

JaimeBronde · 07/09/2019 02:34

Love it & the HoC Monty Python sketch.
Boris can do a brilliant faux dazed & confused act but now I think he's realised that he really is feeling dazed & confused

BigSexyCrimeUnit · 07/09/2019 02:46

I like her stuff a lot but John Crace is hilarious. I love his columns.

Daisypie · 07/09/2019 02:50

BJ is certainly giving everyone a generous amount of material to work with.

serenoa · 07/09/2019 05:51

An aside - it was reported in the Guardian this week that a Scottish newspaper had a headline of Floppy Boris can't get an election'. I thought that was hilarious but I'm not sure now whether the Guardian writer was being humorous or not.

Does anyone know if that headline is real?
