Woman posed as a baby’s mother and got him circumcised. She was convicted but given a suspended sentence. AIBU? To think she should have been put in prison?

It does seem like a light sentence to me. However my personal feelings regarding circumcision may be affecting my opinion on it.

I'm assuming she's a relative of the child although it doesn't say in the article. I can't imagine how terrible the parents are feeling, they thought they'd left their children in safe hands.

Surely it's assault? Doing something to someone's body with no real consent?

Poor lad - yes - she should be in prison. Losing your career at 70 is not the same as losing it at 40.

Mohelim don’t just do it “willy-nilly”, and they are strict about consent forms, but it’s not always easy to assess someone’s age, and maybe she had some sort of face or head covering. She did have someone masquerading as the dad, also. I wonder what happened to him?
