Ds gcse results gone awol.

youarenotkiddingme · 29/08/2019 12:46

Ok, probably not actually awol but can anyone help.

Ds took 1 gcse this year in year 10 by due to being in holiday couldn't collect results and asked school to send them.

School confirmed this.

Arrived home last night and not here but of course school shut and voicemail is full.

I'm sure you can appreciate he's extremely disappointed.
I've obviously played it down and explained result will be the same whether he knew last Thurs, yesterday or when he goes back next week.

Ive emailed school but I have no idea when they will open office and get around to reading it.

Is there any other way I can find it out for him? Contact exam board direct etc?

Call at school. Office staff will be there

GinDaddy · 29/08/2019 12:54

YABU - there's an Education board here : www.mumsnet.com/Talk/education

Your question isn't an "Am I being unreasonable?" question. but I guess this is posted for traffic Hmm

Call the school, as previous poster suggested.

The school should be your point of contact; don't give up after first attempt, they will eventually pick up.

herculepoirot2 · 29/08/2019 12:56

School’s going to be open in three days. Just be patient, these things happen.

actiongirl1978 · 29/08/2019 12:57

School will be open now, ours is.

We don't give out results over phone or email.

Cheeserton · 29/08/2019 13:05

Yeah, because that's really rare and unusual, eh? Let's all just be an arse to a genuinely concerned parent looking for quick suggestions, shall we?

OP - agree that you should go to the school during office hours in person. Probably the most reliable option.

youarenotkiddingme · 29/08/2019 13:08

Brilliant Hmm

First 2 responses the usual MN crap.

Call school = read the OP. School voicemail is full. School is shut. We drove down there.

And I used AIBU because I wanted to know if AIBU to be annoyed and want results. I don't think being unkind to a mum of a 15yo who is disappointed in his results being AWOL is in the spirit of MN 🙄

I've already posted I've told him to be patient.

But I'm asking if there's anything I can do to help and get them from elsewhere. There's a massive backstory to ds schooling and this is a big deal for him. I'm just trying to help him.

Anyone got any suggestions of how I can help.

I'll also report on education board as a helpful poster suggested. Thanks

Thanks cheese I'm glad you also thought the responses were unnecessarily arsy.

shearwater · 29/08/2019 13:10

If the school voicemail is full you could have emailed the school office in the time it has taken to start this thread. Someone may well be checking emails.

IsobelRae23 · 29/08/2019 13:16

She’s said she has phoned, she has emailed and that school is shut. Don’t people read?

youarenotkiddingme · 29/08/2019 13:17

Shear I'd emailed before I started thread.

Does anyone read posts nowadays

But I have no idea when they'll pick up emails. There is no one at school currently.

I want to help my ds. It's a simple question.

Other than wait for school is there any other way I can get the results for him?

OP posts:
OUwhatnext · 29/08/2019 13:18

If it was so important why would you book a holiday over results day? Presumably you felt the holiday was more important at the time, so just be patient for a bit longer.

shearwater · 29/08/2019 13:19

Exactly. It's just one GCSE in Y10. He will find out next week at the latest.

Spingtrolls · 29/08/2019 13:20

THis place is getting worse for others not bothering to read ops posts.

Afaik you would need to contact the exam board and get them reposted. But it would be quicker to wait for school.

youarenotkiddingme · 29/08/2019 13:22

Thanks Isobel I'm sat here wondering if I've entered some kind of parallel universe where my writing turns into some kind of script that can't be read.

Please just answer the question. Is there any other way I can get the results?

Ds didn't attend school for a period a few years ago after being attacked in a classroom with a knife. He had to change schools (whole other load of threads!) which isn't easy for an autistic child (or any child). He was making slower than expected progress due to extreme anxiety being in school and had zero confidence.

He's done so well with schools support but then has been diagnosed with a neuro degenerative condition just to stick the boot in as things were going well.

He didn't want anyone else to open results and has spent a week away building himself up to read them. Now he has no idea when that will be.

I just want any information on how or if I can help him.

It's not beyond what most parents would do. Or entitled or demanding.
I'd rather just be told there's no other way possible than insulted - thank you very much Hmm

rainbowunicorn · 29/08/2019 13:23

God there are some arses on this thread. OP I hope you manage to track down his results for him. Just ignore the twats.

shearwater · 29/08/2019 13:24

THis place is getting worse for others not bothering to read ops posts

Sometimes people skim read and don't spot every detail.

Sometimes people leave randomly capitalised letters in the middle of words and don't punctuate correctly. Never mind.

herculepoirot2 · 29/08/2019 13:24

I don’t think there is.

youarenotkiddingme · 29/08/2019 13:25

Ou that's a pretty ridiculous comment. He was informed the results would be sent home. He expected them last night. If he'd been told he couldn't then get them until next week he wouldn't be disappointed today - because he wouldn't have been expecting them. Or he could have made another arrangement for someone to collect his envelope. (My parents couldn't do it as mum has chemo that day).

Me and my siblings were all away when it was results day. We got them when we got home. And I'm sure we aren't the only family to holiday in August!

OP posts:
Squirrelonwheels · 29/08/2019 13:25

The exam board won’t give out the results unless he was a private candidate but doesn’t sound like he was, so unfortunately you’ll have to wait for the school. Hope you can get in touch with them soon.

meercat23 · 29/08/2019 13:26

I don't know if this is a helpful response but if you know the exam board might it be worth trying to ring them. I can imagine that having to wait the extra days until school is open does feel like way too long.

In the olden days when my kids were at exam stages the results got ;posted to their home address. This having to go in to collect results just adds to the stress in my view. If it is all about costs then asking everyone to supply a stamped address envelope would sort that.

GreenTulips · 29/08/2019 13:26

DD got here online

Did he get any information for a log in? Try his school email

Lockshunkugel · 29/08/2019 13:27

I suspect, because it’s only 1 GCSE taken in Year 10, that your messages and emails might not be treated as urgently as the Year 11 ones. Unfortunately, you will probably just need to keep trying or wait until next week.

I understand that It must be frustrating for you and your DS. Does DS depend on getting a good grade to go back to the same school or to continue studying a particular subject? If not, there is no real urgency to get the result.

PumpkinPie2016 · 29/08/2019 13:27

I work in a secondary OP and we are no longer able to post pupil results due to GDPR. Possibly, the person who said they would send them hadn't realised they couldn't.

I'm Shock that school isn't open though! Our site/admin staff have been in all summer and many teachers pop in to sort rooms etc.

I hope your son gets the result he wantsSmile

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 29/08/2019 13:29

youarenot

Ive no advice except agreeing with those saying keep trying the school

But I’m sorry people are being so unhelpful...and dense!

Fingers crossed you get hold of someone

Although do you know anyone who knows someone personally at the school who might be able to tell you when someone is in...?

You might have to ring round your friends to see if anyone knows anyone...if that makes sense

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 29/08/2019 13:30

Ugh how stressful on top of everything else. I hope the school get back to you soon and that it's all good news.
