youarenotkiddingme · 29/08/2019 12:46

Ok, probably not actually awol but can anyone help.

Ds took 1 gcse this year in year 10 by due to being in holiday couldn't collect results and asked school to send them.

School confirmed this.

Arrived home last night and not here but of course school shut and voicemail is full.

I'm sure you can appreciate he's extremely disappointed.
I've obviously played it down and explained result will be the same whether he knew last Thurs, yesterday or when he goes back next week.

Ive emailed school but I have no idea when they will open office and get around to reading it.

Is there any other way I can find it out for him? Contact exam board direct etc?

OP posts:
Funguy · 29/08/2019 14:04

It depends on the exam board it seems. Can you just go ahead and phone the board?

LIZS · 29/08/2019 14:06

Email the exams officer. He/she will be monitoring their inbox for remark notifications.

IWentAwayIStayedAway · 29/08/2019 14:07

Feck me @youarenotkiddingme my response was to call at school ie drive over and wrap door. Wave through window at office staff who will be there. I did read your op. Call at the school. Cheeky mare!

MonChatEstMagnifique · 29/08/2019 14:08

Hopefully the exam officer is able to help, good suggestion by pp.

If not, your email may get picked up. Some schools, maybe all, do monitor emails during the holiday and respond to the urgent ones. Hopefully they would see this as an important issue. I bet he's desperate to know his result, especially after already waiting longer.

Good luck to your son, hope he gets the grade he wants.

IWentAwayIStayedAway · 29/08/2019 14:08

Usual MN crap indeed!!

QOFE · 29/08/2019 14:09

They don't send them in the post at DD's school - they send an email to their school email address. Has he got a school email address?

QOFE · 29/08/2019 14:10

Oh sorry I see you've tried that. DD forgets her password all the time and has to have it reset. He will just have to wait til he goes back to school then!

JustDanceAddict · 29/08/2019 14:12

My dC also took one early. I rang the school and went to collect. They won’t give over the phone.
He’ll be able to get it when he goes back. I wouldn’t have wanted to wait as I wanted to know more than DS 😆 (he did really, but was nervous).

checkeredredshorts · 29/08/2019 14:13

Wow it must be national arse hole day! What a bunch of miserable people replying here.

I've no advice OP just keep trying the phone and drive down there again a couple of times maybe tomorrow and early next week and see if anyone is about. If there are onset days next week someone should surely be there.

Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2019 14:17

I was just coming on to suggest that there will be an exams page on the website with contact details bet see it's just been said. I can't believe it took that long for someone to suggest that! Hopefully, that will work

berlinbabylon · 29/08/2019 14:19

I don’t understand how posting a persons exam results, in a named envelope to them can’t be done because of a GDPR issue

It's not. It's someone at a school having a little knowledge of the law, putting 2 and 2 together and making 5. DS' school will post results if candidates don't want to/can't collect.

youarenotkiddingme · 29/08/2019 14:22

Feck me @youarenotkiddingme my response was to call at school ie drive over and wrap door. Wave through window at office staff who will be there. I did read your op. Call at the school. Cheeky mare!

I've clearly stated numerous times I've done this 🤔🙄

OP posts:
berlinbabylon · 29/08/2019 14:23

Email the exams officer. He/she will be monitoring their inbox for remark notifications

You'd think. I've been waiting a week for our exams officer to get back to me. I've just assumed it will be once school starts again now.

youarenotkiddingme · 29/08/2019 14:25

Can't find info for exams officer on school website. Maybe I'm searching wrong place. Anyone any idea what section I should be looking at? I've looked under students area and parents area and list of staff etc.

Sooverthemill · 29/08/2019 14:30

Head of year might be able to help? You should have been given their email or be able to find it on school website

coconuttelegraph · 29/08/2019 14:31

Why would GDPR stop the school posting the results out? @PumpkinPie2016

That sounds like some rubbish reason someone has given for not being bothered to do it, how could sending someone their own information be a breach of GDPR?

"school starts in 3 day" "the school staff will be in" "they can get them online" blah blah blah.... Newsflash people, not every school in the country is the same you know, do people really not appreciate the not everything is the same as where they live?

Ifyousayso2019 · 29/08/2019 14:34

Hi OP. Does the school have a Facebook or Twitter page? If so, that may be being monitored remotely and you could try messaging them on there?

verticality · 29/08/2019 14:37

Wow, you seem very uptight and aggressive. The second poster didn't tell you to call the school on the phone, she told you to GO TO the school and that the office staff will be there.

It's just a GCSE result with nothing riding on it. Keep it in perspective.

Tonnerre · 29/08/2019 14:38

Sometimes people skim read and don't spot every detail.

If you're going to take the trouble to reply, @shearwater, how difficult can it be to spend a few extra sessions reading the OP properly? In this case it would have saved you the time you spend on posting the message.

kateandme · 29/08/2019 14:38

this would be trciky for anyone op.with your ds experiences and other things on top of that he must be really anxious.
if you cant do anything just try to take his mind awy from it.
he will be zero-ing in on this right now unable to get his thoughts and focus from it so just try to keep reminding him hes done excelently for even getting it done so any results will be a bonus and they will come in good time.
is ther anything you can do the next few days to ease and distract him.
your doing all you can.try not to stress

IWentAwayIStayedAway · 29/08/2019 14:39

But not in your op. I replied to your op . You said school shut but not that you had called down.

verticality · 29/08/2019 14:41

Goodness me, what a lot of stress over something so totally minor. If it was that important, why go on holiday at results time?!

Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2019 14:42

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a page headed exams on the website. If not, you will just have to wait til INSET day.

Exams officers do work in the summer holidays ( but as I have learnt, often on very muted hours!) but may not be connectable by phone unless you know a direct number.

Another suggestion is to look in letters home or newsletters where exam admin was probably mentioned.

Did you give the school an SAE for the results?

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 29/08/2019 14:44

GDPR doesn't stop you posting things Grin

Inspiralcarpetry · 29/08/2019 14:44

I can understand your stress OP. I work in a school and although I've not been in (not contracted to), I'm checking emails from home. I'd suggest emailing the office and asking (politely!) if they can help redirect you-mark it urgent and maybe read receipt.
In that circumstance, receiving an email like that, I would email or text the head/relevant teacher and ask them to contact you so you could arrange a suitable time to come and collect the result.
Good luck, it's stressful waiting for results.
