Anyone else stuck at home this BHW

Whatjusthappenedthere · 24/08/2019 07:31

Left it a little late to book a campsite this BHW. Started looking about 3 weeks ago. DH a bit fussy ( EHU / not a particular place that had loads of sites). Search intensified as weekend loomed and we could find no where. Seems everyone is camping this weekend. Decided to try boat hire - zilch. Airbnb - zilch in our price range ( ie not over a thousand pounds!!! ). 2 adults 2 kids 2 dogs.
Ok, so I left it late but thought we would find somewhere.
A bit fed up. Has anyone else had the same ?

I haven't looked but I have an exam on Tuesday so we are all stuck at home whilst I revise. Mine are teens so the older one won't come camping anymore but the weather is gorgeous. I feel a bit pissed off looking at Facebook seeing everyones adventures. Can you do some nice daytrips?

Whatjusthappenedthere · 24/08/2019 07:38

Yes , will have to do days out but not looking forward to the bloody traffic. We live in a semi touristy area which we have done to death.
Good luck for Tuesday Flowers

I really wanted to go camping too. But my mum is (we think) in her final few days so I don’t dare go anywhere :(

edwinbear · 24/08/2019 07:41

We’re at home. DH is currently bringing DC back from a week with the GP’s, they won’t be back until around 4pm so I have a day to myself Grin. Tomorrow we are going to see School of Rock in the West End, then DS turns 10 on Monday, so we are out for breakfast, then he wants to go to Clip ‘n’ Climb.

Will probably try and fit a BBQ in somewhere. You can make a long weekend at home fun OP!

Yes- on my own with 2 small children. Don't want to sound needy so haven't made plans with anyone. Feeling very lonely.

EleanorReally · 24/08/2019 07:48

I am workign sat and sun evening Sad
still money will come in handy - just have to make the most of the day time

Ginnymweasley · 24/08/2019 07:53

My dh is working all weekend so it will just be a normal weekend for us really. He will need the car so we will probably just stay at home in the garden. Tbh living near a large tourist destination I try not to go anywhere anyway the roads are mental.

MoreFrog · 24/08/2019 07:54

Never go away bh weekends. Too much like hard work with a SN child who hates crowds and disruption to routine.

labazsisgoingmad · 24/08/2019 07:56

busy working all bhw as usual

username678889 · 24/08/2019 07:57

Tbh sat in bh traffic is my idea of hell .
I'm so happy the weather is good so I'm off out for a run . I'll get my shopping in , clean the house then sit in the sun .
The bbq will be out and I'll be mainly in my garden this weekend bliss .
The weekend is what you make of it , I'm sure there are places to go that are short distance away if that's what you want to do .

Aethelthryth · 24/08/2019 07:57

BH travel is so awful that home is by far the best place to be! Garden barbecues and games, watch a film together etc

LemonadePockets · 24/08/2019 07:57

I’m in Scotland, I don’t get this bank holiday unfortunately. Our kids are all back at school and summer seems like a distant memory.

AuntieMarys · 24/08/2019 07:58

Never travel on Bank Holidays!!!

Boom45 · 24/08/2019 08:03

Not going anywhere and my DH has all sorts of plans for himself so it's mainly just me and the kids. I've been working for a lot of the summer holiday tho and my kids have been in various holiday camps/childminders/with family so I'm quite looking forward to a few days of mooching about and being lazy in the sun...

Fairylea · 24/08/2019 08:04

We never go away on bank holidays.. so busy and just hell on earth everywhere. Planning to go to a very quiet beach with the kids (about 30 mins away in the car) and then spend the rest of the time at home and in the garden.

adaline · 24/08/2019 08:05

I'm working all weekend but even if I wasn't there's no way I'd be travelling anywhere!

My commute will be bad enough as it is - I work in the Lake District and all the roads just grind to a halt.

Lazypuppy · 24/08/2019 08:05

Couldn't think of anything worse than going away bank holiday weekend. Ridiculously busy and expensive.

Magissa · 24/08/2019 08:08

I live within Notting Hill carnival zone. Not going away so having two lazy but very noisy days indoors.

ControversialFerret · 24/08/2019 08:11

We're at home and I've been looking forward to it. Planning to potter about in the garden and do some nice food to eat outside and make the most of the weather.

Enjoy not having to go anywhere - the traffic is due to be hideous!

cantfindname · 24/08/2019 08:12

Go wild camping! It's illegal in many places but only if you get caught

Legal in Scotland and on Dartmoor. Would be a grand adventure.

Nowt. DH working today and Monday. I’m working Sunday. Most BH are like this. Today kids will do some crafty stuff and we’ll go to supermarket.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 24/08/2019 08:14

We live near The Lake District so we tend to stay at home to avoid traffic.
The idea of going anywhere with traffic is horrendous, it's a bit of a bigger if the weather is nice though as we have no garden. Sometimes the idea of having a small family barbecue is lovely but sadly impossible.

Els1e · 24/08/2019 08:22

I’m at home this weekend and are looking forward to it. Plan to do a bit of tidying in the garden and a lot of sitting around reading and drinking wine.

Whatjusthappenedthere · 24/08/2019 08:24

Not just me then. I’m looking straight out into our regions wolds from the bedroom window, I know I’m lucky to live in the countryside but I feel trapped. I get cabin fever very easily. Our local sea side town will be rammed! And Not many more opportunities to get the camper out again this year.
Can’t wild camp with a teenage daughter. She would never forgive me Grin
