In not removing review

onanothertrain · 21/08/2019 13:16

Contacted a tradesperson for urgent repair, was told no problem, they would check the diary and phone me back within an hour. 4 hours later, no phone call so I sent a text. Another 4 hours later still nothing. I will admit to being annoyed so I left a Google review stating the above. An hour later I got a text asking me to remove the review as they hadn't actually done any work for me and they were working hard to maintain their business. I didnt respond and have now had 2 more texts asking me to remove the review. Im now considering either ignoring the texts and blocking, removing my review but leaving another one explaining why or just removing it all together. Although my stubborn side is not leaning towards the third option. So Aibu not to remove it?

You don't know what he's going through or how hard he's worked to build his business. It's absolutely not worth potentially destroying his business and livelihood over. Please take the review down and give the guy a break. Life's hard enough.

FFS it's (well it was) one review. Talk about hyperbole.

familycourtq · 21/08/2019 14:51

You sound very spiteful.

When did telling the truth become "spiteful" ??? FFS

RedDogsBeg · 21/08/2019 14:52

but I think it’s a petty thing to do without chasing up yourself first
but rather than make a chasing call (surely this is normal?!),

You both missed this bit of the OP, then:

4 hours later, no phone call so I sent a text. Another 4 hours later still nothing.

How many times does the OP have to chase up to not be deemed unreasonable and spiteful in the opinion of posters who say she should have chased him up? It was an urgent job which the tradesman acknowledged by stating he would get back to her within an hour after checking his diary.

As someone else has said one of the most infuriating experiences with tradesmen is when they promise to call back and don't or arrange an appointment and fail to turn up.

Watchingthyme · 21/08/2019 14:53

Ah well.
He’ll be free to go about being a bit shit and unreliable

As many people that are quick to leave shit reviews. There are double the amount of tradespeople who are unreliable and time wasters.
But that’s ok

Lweji · 21/08/2019 14:55

I don't see why they were so concerned about the review.
I think pretty much all tradespeople are or have been guilty of a similar thing.

I'd probably just ring someone else instead and if they ever rang back I'd explain why they had lost the business.

messolini9 · 21/08/2019 14:56

ooops - thanks for the fact-check @ArgumentativeAardvaark.

Note to self: stop arsing about on MN when you are also Doing Important Office Work ... neother activity gets exectuted properly! Grin

Butchyrestingface · 21/08/2019 14:57

Thanks all. I have taken it down.
I did think about having a vote but then I might not have captured all those who wanted to call me a cunt 🙄

I think you were mildly unreasonable, @onanothertrain but hardly to the cunt-like levels so lovingly enumerated on this thread. Grin

FWIW, I’m a freelancer, and never go anywhere without a battery pack for my phone. I can’t imagine a situation where a potential client contacted me urgently, I promise to get back within the hour, then don’t, then ignore follow up calls over the course of 8 hours.

And then keep contacting the UNclient about a negative review. 🤷‍♀️

You may have been a big trigger happy but he could have handled the situation far better.

messolini9 · 21/08/2019 14:58

Ditto ^^ above, this time to @RedDogsBeg.

I clearly trigger-fingered on this one.

berlinbabylon · 21/08/2019 15:00

I don't think you needed to take it down, unless you were worried he knew where you lived!

Surprised at how many people on here think it's acceptable to say you'll call someone back and then not do so within 8 hours.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 21/08/2019 15:00

Grin @messolini9
I admittedly have too much time on my hands today!

messolini9 · 21/08/2019 15:00

Still feel the time would be more productively spent chasing a reliable Trader than focusing on a slack one tho'.

Coyoacan · 21/08/2019 15:00

I do think the review was warranted, frankly. Maybe more people should take advantage of this facility and then there'd be a level playing field, because, in my experience, most trades people are like that.

They also say they will come to your house and you wait in all day and they never turn up. Or they are half-way through the job for one customer and go off to look after another customer.

Nobody would want to put someone out of business for those shenannigans, but it would be good if they thought a bit more about the consequences of their actions on their customer.

KUGA · 21/08/2019 15:00

Totally agree with OnlyFoolsnMothers

MummytoCSJH · 21/08/2019 15:01

As long as the review is fair and honest - he didn't work for you, but didn't call back after saying he would - I would leave it up there.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/08/2019 15:01

Does NO ONE understand that customer service is part of a fking job

Apparently not - or very few anyway - and they also seem to have missed that he responded pretty darned fast once he saw the review

Personally I'd have waited a couple of days before leaving the review if he still hadn't called (and gone elsewhere in the meantime) but OP's said nothing more than the truth. Next time, maybe the guy will remember that reliability and communication count for a lot when maintaining a business

messolini9 · 21/08/2019 15:01

Aardvaark that will explain your clear & informative posting style today then ... ha!

Fredastaireatemyjamsandwich · 21/08/2019 15:01

Yes he should have called you back if he said he would, he may or may not have a valid reason for not getting back to you sooner. You have a choice. You can leave the review, and take out your frustration on him and feel smug you have got your revenge, or You can just remove the review, and go to another tradesman, move on, and make the world a nicer place to be. What would you like to be today? A nice person, or a vengeful cunt?

Crowdo · 21/08/2019 15:02

I think you should have left it up.

MummytoCSJH · 21/08/2019 15:02

Didn't RTFT my bad but still think you should have left it. How will people know that he doesn't do as he says unless there are honest reviews on there, until he does it to them too?

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 21/08/2019 15:04

Brilliant OP, bet you’re glad that @Fredastaire squeezed in a bonus “cunt!” even after you posted to say you had taken the review down Grin

onanothertrain · 21/08/2019 15:09

aardvaark I'm delighted! Grin

Justaboy · 21/08/2019 15:10

Its almost endemic amongst small self employed tradesmen the dealing with the public customer side no matter how go they may be at their job.

I have to use a few and most all are like this. The only one who is good in that respect is managed by his wife;!..

dreichhighlands · 21/08/2019 15:11

Yet strangely a review highlighting this issue meant that the person remembered how to use communication devices all of a sudden.

Ilovecolinjackson · 21/08/2019 15:14

I work with in a trade environment, nearly every customer needs a response urgently. We can be so busy with the work we have it can be impossible to ring back when promised sometimes.
We have had some ringing back an hour later saying that they haven't heard anything back, however we are so busy with people at the garage they take priority.
Of course we want their custom but we are actually dealing with work/jobs when you ring for people who booked their cars in two weeks ago and who are paying us the same day. If I hand to respond that quicky for all our phone/email requests I wouldn't be able to deal with the people actually in the garage. May be he is just that busy, may be there is a reason for that, he may be that good.
If they were so quiet to respond to you and do the work that quick they may not have enough work and I'd be wondering why.

diddl · 21/08/2019 15:18

If he's that busy, then maybe he needs to be paying someone to field phone calls for him?
