To ask your 8 year olds shoe size

Just had my sons feet measured. He’s 8.5 years old and his feet are an adult 5.5
He’s always been tall for his age but Christ, isn’t that huge? I’m only a six.
Can’t tie his laces yet and finding Velcro trainers that are comfortable in that size with no laces, in black for school isn’t easy

Any other boat feet kids out there?!

Mine is 9 and wears a 5.

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 14/08/2019 20:28

A child in my Y4 class last year had size 7!

FudgeBrownie2019 · 14/08/2019 20:29

8 year old wears a 5, 13 year old wears a 13. Some children are just bigger these days.

pinkelephantsanddietcoke · 14/08/2019 20:29

My DD is 9 and had her feet measured today. She's a 2. I was horrified as she's going about in a 13!
I think a 5 for an 8 year old is slightly big but not unusual. A friend of my DD's is a 6, aged 9!

Isthebigwomanhere · 14/08/2019 20:29

We have the opposite problem op
Dd2 is 22 with size 1 feet

slipperywhensparticus · 14/08/2019 20:30

Mine is ten and he isnt even s size two my daughter was a 13.5 when she was ten we have small feet I think! But my feet ended up being a size 6 so are hers so it evens out

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/08/2019 20:31

DD is size 2 and 140cm. I think her feet are too short for her height.

Laura221 · 14/08/2019 20:32

Wow! My 8 year old is still an infant 12. I'm sure it just means he will grow into a tall adult. I wouldn't worry

ItsMischerWavy · 14/08/2019 20:33

I was a size 6 by the time I was 8...by 13 I was a 9 (mens size 9 too, not ladies) I'm now 32 and generally anywhere between a 9 and 10 mens

hazeyjane · 14/08/2019 20:33

Ds is 9 and has size 10 feet (has to have 11s due to insoles)....he is very small though.

Zoflorabore · 14/08/2019 20:34

My dd is 8 and in a size 3 which is one of the biggest in her class, they're mostly all tiny.

When I was her age I was in a size 6 and then a size 8 at 10 years old and stopped thank goodness.

My ds is 16 and in a size 14 shoe. His feet stopped growing when he was 14. When he was dd's age, going into year 4 he was in a size 8 and continued to grow a size every age, starting secondary school in an 11. I was panicking Grin

A 5.5 is way bigger than the average 8yr old but I found Sports Direct were brilliant for finding Velcro trainers in bigger sizes.

transformandriseup · 14/08/2019 20:36

I was in an adult size 6 at 10. Now a size 8.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 14/08/2019 20:37

DS was 8 in June. He had been wearing a 13. Have just bought him size 1 for September school shoes. He has older sisters who have tiny feet (I’m only a 4 myself and DH is a 7) ) so I thought he was a normal size. Reading this thread it seems I was wrong and that DS is titchy!

icelollycraving · 14/08/2019 20:38

Goodness, that’s pretty big for 8! Ds is size 1.5 and is also 8.

Fitch77 · 14/08/2019 20:39

9 yo in a 5.5-6 adult. 11yo, just gone into a size 1 adult. I am a size 9 adult.

QueefLatifah · 14/08/2019 20:39

Wow not as unusual as it thought then! He is adamant the next biggest in his class is a size 2.its finding black shoes that are “cool
Enough” for school and fit the requirements, don’t have laces, last and don’t cost a fortune!

My 8 yr old is size 10 (small sizes) and was the smallest in her class. Her classmate had big size 4.

arethereanyleftatall · 14/08/2019 20:41

8yo dd is an 11 (kids size). She's quite petite generally though.

Zoflorabore · 14/08/2019 20:44

Op, based on what you've just said about the shoes for school, have you had a look at Kickers? We had many, many pairs of the Velcro ones, they are brilliant and really last.
Not the cheapest but I've always had to spend a lot on ds's shoes and they're worth the money and tick all of your boxes.

TheHuntingOfTheSarky · 14/08/2019 20:44

I have DD1 who is nearly 12 and is size 5/6. Also DD2 who is 8.5 and size 3 G or H sometimes. I am size 9 and wide fitting though so it’s not surprising!

Stompythedinosaur · 14/08/2019 20:45

Wow, my 8yo has size 13 feet (obviously the junior sizes). I never thought of her feet as unusually small!

banskuwansku · 14/08/2019 20:46

My son is 9 and size 2.

derryrose · 14/08/2019 20:47

My almost 8 year old has 13.5 feet and he is tall for his age.

CoffeeRunner · 14/08/2019 20:47

My 8 year old DD is a 2.5. She is pretty tall for her age.

pikapikachu · 14/08/2019 20:47

My 13 year old is 5.5
