Are Hollywood celebs normal BMI?

So I’m bored on my commute this morning and want some mindless chatter!

Spice up my weds- are Hollywood celebs normal BMI (body mass index)? I want your perspective seeing as all our daughters see these women day in day out!

And give some examples on what you think they weigh.

Thanks

Also meant to post in chat but couldn’t find it!

There are more range of celebs now. So Jessie from little mix is likely to be a healthy BMI.

Size zero celebs are likely to be on the low side, I would have thought.

But who knows?

Flerkin · 14/08/2019 06:54

And I am not going to guess celebs weight.

Sammysquiz · 14/08/2019 06:56

And give some examples on what you think they weigh

Seriously?Hmm

Knitclubchatter · 14/08/2019 06:58

Thanks to photoshop I’m sure it’s all fake.

TyrionsNextWife · 14/08/2019 07:01

Nothing quite like a bit of body shaming to start the day Hmm

Aus84 · 14/08/2019 07:03

Yes I would say the majority are.

Also, really??

Stuckforthefourthtime · 14/08/2019 07:04

You can actually be very slim and have a healthy BMI. I'm a size 8 and still a stone above the minimum healthy weight for my height, on a BMI basis.

Loopytiles · 14/08/2019 07:04

Vast majority are not, no.

Rainbowhairdontcare · 14/08/2019 07:06

I think the vast majority are.. a healthy BMI actually looks thin (not chubby!). Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lawrence, Anna Kendrick, Katy Perry they're all a healthy BMI.

joystir59 · 14/08/2019 07:08

I'm very slim and yet I'm 1.5 stone above the lower edge of a normal weight for my height, so yes, I would say they are

joystir59 · 14/08/2019 07:08

Are you a normal BMI OP?

Rainbowhairdontcare · 14/08/2019 07:09

@Stuckforthefourthtime that's very true. At a size 4/6 (this is Primark so vanity sizing) I was still within range (BMI 21). Just before becoming pregnant I was an 8 and BMl was 25. At size 14 I was obese.

twattymctwatterson · 14/08/2019 07:24

I would say that most are these days. I rarely see a Hollywood celebrity that I feel is worryingly thin. We've just lost perspective a bit of what is a healthy weight.

Ponoka7 · 14/08/2019 07:24

My DD is easily a six 6. Which is US size 0-2. She does, weights, muay thai and body combat type classes.

You can be really small, but a good weight and still be within a healthy BMI.

However if you seriously exercise/train, you don't go by BMI.

A lot of people comment on my DDs size, but she is still within an excellent body fat ratio.

She had cause to go to the hospital/GP with an illness that she's had since childhood and her Doctors said they'd never seen a lay person, whose body was running so well.

When i was a really healthy size 8 (i have big hips) every one told me i was too thin.

This is a form of body shaming.

Sceptre86 · 14/08/2019 07:26

At a size 14 I was obese, I am a 12 now lost 1.5 stone and still overweight. At 7 stone 10 my BMI was 19 but I am very short. 18 is considered a healthy bmi, lower is underweight. With the amount of photoshop magazines use who knows what size these women are? As long as they are comfortable in their own skin who cares. We should be teaching our kids that unrealistic body images are not something to want to live up to but rather focuse on achieving a healthy weight themselves. Not everyone can spend 3 hours in the gym a day had a chef cook all meals and never do the grocery shop. Celebs live in a different world to the rest of us so why try to emulate them?

Justmeandthedoggie · 14/08/2019 07:31

This thread is really interesting! I think perhaps a mix of only seeing ‘really thin’ in the media and seeing overweight/obese people in reality day in day out, means young people might lose sight of what a ‘healthy’ weight is?

Sceptre86 · 14/08/2019 07:31

My baby sister (23) has always been slim is a UK 4. She has a healthy BMI of 18 and does weights to strengthen her body and shed loads of walking. If she dropped weight she would be underweight but seems to have no problems maintaining hers with the level of activity she does. She always gets told she is too skinny and it annoys her as she isn't just a very healthy weight. I think it is just because the average woman is bigger than in the past so our idea of 'healthy'or 'ideal' is skewed.

PooWillyBumBum · 14/08/2019 07:32

I think they are, yes, and that because the “average” woman is now overweight we think of them as too thin. Apart from some exceptions, usually haute couture models, I’d say most are a normal BMI. I’ve been called ‘emaciated’ before and still been well within normal BMI (and felt great!). Why are we so obsessed with others weight?

allthegins · 14/08/2019 07:32

Yes they are healthy weights. The people saying they aren’t are the people who say a size 16 isn’t big.

Loopytiles · 14/08/2019 07:37

Hmm Bit of an assumption there.

None of us can know what weight/BMI people in magazines or on TV are. Only guess. But it’s rare to see women actors who are not very slim.

cranstonmanor · 14/08/2019 07:47

I never get why people say that they are slim or fat because they wear a size 8/14/ whatever. Surely it also depends on if you are short or tall?

KUGA · 14/08/2019 07:50

Just remember these so-called celebs have money.
They can afford for someone to cook all they eat and stay thin.
Do an hour at the gym .
Lets face it,actors read a script then get filmed acting it out.
Not exactly HARD work.
Not like us Mothers/G/Mothers etc.
And remember air-brushing is the in thing.

pangolina · 14/08/2019 07:56

A large proportion of the population are now overweight or obese so we are losing sight of what is healthy. I don't see any film stars I think are unhealthily thin.
I'm 5'7 size 8 bmi 21, which is right in the middle of the normal range, yet I constantly have people tell me 'there's nothing of you' and I 'need to eat a pie'.
I'd guess that most of the hollywood stars we see weigh 8-9.5 stone, maybe 10. But everyone carries weight differently so hard to tell.

treeplop · 14/08/2019 07:59

I have always bordered on the 'underweight' line with my BMI (midwife made me see the consultant when I was pregnant because of low BMI) yet I always wear a size 10,

On the plus side I think I calculated I could add about two stone before moving into overweight 😂 I'm working on it!
