To ask for my money back?

Went to a new hairdresser yesterday (tried a few now to find one I like) and she has completely and utterly ruined my hair. I asked for blonde balayage (which I’ve had before and really liked) and I’ve ended up with this.

My DP says it’s ‘not that bad’ but I beg to differ! It’s patchy, orange and awful. I didn’t realise how awful it was until my colleague asked what had happened to my hair and took a photo to show me! I’ve messaged the hairdresser with photos attached to say I’m not happy. WIBU to ask for it to be fixed by a more senior stylist or for my money back?

Yes I would . It’s not awful but I can see how it would be nothing like you had in mind. Just go straight back, be polite and firm . Resist the offer to correct it.

herculepoirot2 · 10/08/2019 17:22

It’s not great. What did it look like before?

OchMumItsJustMaBow · 10/08/2019 17:23

It was just grown out blonde balayage before, none of the orange!

PrettyShiningPeople · 10/08/2019 17:32

It doesn’t look that bad, but it’s definitely not balayage. I would ask for my money back and find another hairdressers who can do the job right.

CoffeeRunner · 10/08/2019 17:37

I agree. It’s not terrible. Not embarrassingly bad - but also not what you asked & paid for.

I wouldn’t allow the same salon to correct it TBH. I would just ask for my money back.

OchMumItsJustMaBow · 10/08/2019 17:50

There’s just no order to it!

I personally don’t think it’s the worse i’ve Seen but YANBU to go back if you don’t like it. I would and have done so in the past. Good luck.

ElizaPancakes · 10/08/2019 17:57

Did the hairdresser even know what a balayage is? Confused I could do better with a home dye kit!

Yes I'd go back. Did you show any pictures of what you wanted?

slipperywhensparticus · 10/08/2019 17:57

It's awful you need to tone it rapidly

OchMumItsJustMaBow · 10/08/2019 18:00

She’s replied to my message saying it’s not her fault my hair is so dark Confused

I’ve been having bleach for 9 years and never ever has it gone anything but a lovely pale blonde. She’s made no offer to correct it but has asked when I want to come in to get it done again (and pay!)

I didn’t really want to go into the salon and make a fuss but she’s not offering to sort it out so I guess I’ll have to Sad

Heheh76598 · 10/08/2019 18:01

Yes I would definitely be expecting my money back! Sorry OP it’s not nice Sad

CitadelsofScience · 10/08/2019 18:02

Complain. But did you ask the hairdresser or see any pictures of their previous balayage work?

Heheh76598 · 10/08/2019 18:02

Phone and ask to speak to the manager (hopefully she’s not the manager), they should fix it without hesitation.. it’s clearly not what you have asked for

crisscrosscranky · 10/08/2019 18:03

OP I had a very similar experience a few months back and got a similar response from hair dresser and salon owner- it cost me £80 to go from alright hair to shit hair and then another £7 on a box dye to cover it up.

I hope your salon is more accommodating than mine was

herculepoirot2 · 10/08/2019 18:04

I’m not sure what your legal position is. Did you ask for a continuation of what you had in the first picture? Did the hairdresser give you any indication that she thought your hair was too dark for the desired colour?

ems137 · 10/08/2019 18:05

Some salons are useless when you complain. They will make up any bullshit excuse to get out of sorting it out for you. I once spent £650 on hair extensions that mostly all fell out within a few weeks, would they admit fault? Nope, apparently it's normal that they all fall out 🙄

steff13 · 10/08/2019 18:07

Yikes. I don't think it looks terrible, but if you're not happy with it, you should either have them fix it or get your money back.

OchMumItsJustMaBow · 10/08/2019 18:11

I had an initial face to face consultation with her where she looked at my hair and asked what I wanted, I said that I’d like blonde balayage as a continuation of what I had already. She has photos of balayage on her Instagram (though couldn’t they be anyone’s?!) and said it wouldn’t be a problem to do. There was no mention of my hair being ‘too dark’ (it isn’t).

I didn’t think she left it on long enough (definitely not as long as it’s been on before - my hair usually takes 4 hours minimum just for colour and I was in there 3.5 including a cut and blowdry) but I didn’t say anything as I figured she was the professional and knew what she was doing.

She’s fairly junior so at least she isn’t the manager, who I’m hoping might be more accommodating if I actually go into the salon in front of other customers to ask what they can do about it.

Well who's fault is it then? Only a crappy hairdresser would blame the clients hair. Mine is really dark but my hairdresser doesn't dye my hair orange, because she's a competent and brilliant colourist.

herculepoirot2 · 10/08/2019 18:13

I didn’t think she left it on long enough

I don’t think it can be that. Some of that colour looks very blonde to me.

Highandlow · 10/08/2019 18:14

Yanbu, I don't think it is bad. But if you aren't happy, go back.

OchMumItsJustMaBow · 10/08/2019 18:17

Some of it looks really blonde because it was already blonde! The almost translucent blonde was already there, and everything above it was done yesterday.

I had this... 6 weeks before my wedding. For some reason the stylist painted my hair with ultra strong peroxide and it ended up all orange about half an inch from my roots... I ended up being in the salon for 9 hours in total whilst they fixed it and at one point I had three stylists painting my hair in a frantic panic trying to get it back to normal.

I didn't pay.

CottonSock · 10/08/2019 18:23

I hit yabu as I like it!

lonelyheartsclubband · 10/08/2019 18:25

How much did you pay...?
