To have no idea what will happen coming off pill

AIBU to not have a clue what will happen coming off contraceptive pill?(I know obviously that I can get knocked up). Will it take a while for normal periods to come back?

Recently finished a pack of pills , had the breakthrough bleed and should be starting a new pack of pills today. Getting married next week and really want to get started ASAP for a baby.

I came off the pill and was pregnant within four weeks so be careful. I didn't have any normal bleeds as got pregnant straight away. Planned luckily ! Thought it would take at least 6 months. Take it religiously now!!!!

tealandteal · 09/08/2019 22:10

It entirely depends on you and what pills you are on. I came off, had no period for 2 months and then conceived my son. I did have irregular periods anyway.

FenellaMaxwell · 09/08/2019 22:11

Insta-pregnant here too. I had been on it for 15 years.

GinQueen23 · 09/08/2019 22:13

@CleverLoginName I had no idea it could be that quick. My clock is ticking like a bomb Blush

@tealandteal been on Femodene for about 4 years , the pill just hasn't agreed with me one bit so I'll be glad to be off it .

I came of the combined pill and had a really long cycle after my withdrawal bleed, about 50ish days. But got pregnant on the next cycle.

GinQueen23 · 09/08/2019 22:17

@FenellaMaxwell I'm hoping for ASAP , maybe get a honeymoon babySmile

I got pregnant within a month of coming off the pill.

stanski · 09/08/2019 22:19

Pregnant 3 weeks later...

Fatted · 09/08/2019 22:25

I was the opposite to everyone else. Took me nine months of trying to get pregnant after coming off the pill after about 10/11 years.

After about 4/5 weeks off it I had nausea so bad DH and I both thought it was morning sickness. Then really erratic periods. Horrible greasy hair. Spotty face. I didn't have a period for about three months before falling pregnant with DS1. I was also having a bit of a shit time in work which looking back probably didn't help either.

With DS2, I came off the pill when DS1 was a year old but we waited about another 5 months before trying. I don't remember any symptoms that time but I'd obviously only been on it about a year.

CleverLoginName · 09/08/2019 22:49

OP I also thought it took months. But then I thought if you forget one pill or get stomach bug then you can get pregnant so suppose it's the same really!

CleverLoginName · 09/08/2019 22:51

And I was on the pill for 15 years too

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 09/08/2019 22:51

My period was normal for a couple of months then the cycles just got longer and longer. I got pregnant 9months after coming off it but no idea how as I hadn’t had a period in nearly 4months!

WhyBirdStop · 09/08/2019 23:39

I have PCOS and was pregnant just over a month after coming off the pill. I took it until after the wedding and honeymoon, I have unpredictable cycles and didn't want to risk a heavy period for our honeymoon. Came off a week after we got back, pregnant just over a month later

FenellaMaxwell · 10/08/2019 06:18

I was on femodene too. I came off off it at the end of March, and was pregnant by May.

CheshireDing · 10/08/2019 07:14

I came off the pill, a different one to the OP after about 15+ years on it. Was 35 and had always had irregular periods (which is why I went on the pill) .
Got pregnant within the first month.

Happyspud · 10/08/2019 07:17

The pill does nothing to your cycle. It’s time that means by the time you come off, it’s changed. The pill masks cycle issues and artificially keeps things regular so people always think it’s the pill getting ‘out of their system’ but it’s actually them finally seeing what their system is.

20viona · 10/08/2019 07:21

Nothing exciting happened here 😂 one tiny bleed and I was pregnant straight away!

Pinkroseuk · 10/08/2019 07:24

Totally the opposite for me - came off 30 months ago and still no period - doctors are unsure why - hope you get a honeymoon baby :)

meepmoop · 10/08/2019 07:26

No bleed here, I was pregnant within 2 weeks. I'm amazed I didn't get pregnant before as I was a bit slack with taking it

Crazycatlady123 · 10/08/2019 07:29

I came off Cerazette/Cerelle after being on it for 10+ years and got pregnant 6-8 weeks later. Fingers crossed for you Smile

mindutopia · 10/08/2019 07:38

For me nothing really except obviously quite painful ovulation. I felt good on the pill and fine off it. Periods perfectly regular 28 days from the start. Nothing interesting really. We started to try pretty much right away and I’ve been pregnant in the first 1-2 months of trying (been pregnant 3 times now, 2 of those healthy babies). It’s not always dramatic.

hodgeheg92 · 10/08/2019 07:41

After the withdrawal bleed, I fell pregnant. So it would seem from the range of responses here that it varies from person to person. Depending where you're honeymooning, you may want to take some sanitary products with you, just in case your cycles are random for a while, I'd hate to be caught out on holiday.

Good luck op!

MsHopey · 10/08/2019 07:43

Took me about 6 weeks to get my periods back to normal after the pill, I was pregnant after that so my next period never came!

PeoplesFrontOfJudith · 10/08/2019 07:49

I got my libido back!
Went from being meh about sex the whole time to it waxing and waning in tune with my cycle. The pill used to dry me out as well to the point I used to feel like I had permanent thrush. Coming off it was a revelation and I’ve never gone back to hormonal contraceptives.

Took me 10 month from coming off the pill to get pregnant and that was with regular as clockwork periods. But then when we tried for number two is still took four months.
