To be shocked and horrified by the shit exchange rate?

Thanks Boris.

We are in France this week- it’s cost us over 80 quid to fill the car and our food shops are extortionate. A bag of oranges was nearly £5 and it cost £50 for three of us to go to the waterpark. A Belgian family there said that they have just come back from Britain and stocked up on shoes, clothes and even Christmas presents for their family because the euro to sterling exchange rate is now so good (for them, not for us).
Everything seems so much more expensive than this time last year- is this what we are to expect now?

Living the brexit - brink dream 🙄

It was always going to happen wasn't it? It will get worse as well.

countrygirl99 · 03/08/2019 19:59

Its what we voted for apparently

Alsohuman · 03/08/2019 19:59

This is only the start.

Taswama · 03/08/2019 20:00

Horrified yes, shocked / surprised- not really. Our holiday is not for a couple of weeks but I’m wishing I’d bought some Euros a few weeks / months ago.

BrexitBingoGenerator · 03/08/2019 20:01

Pffft.

Yep you are no doubt right. I’m especially cross because we packed really light so that we could stuff the car with wine to add to our brexit stash - we can now no longer afford any wine, even the crappy stuff!

I am aware that it’s exactly this sort of elitist middle class comment that made people vote for brexit in the first place but, come on- I left my hairdryer at home for this! 🙄

Once again, thanks Boris- you twatty, frizzy, blethery loon.

TBH it’s been shit for years. I went to Spain & Italy about 10 years ago and I was really shocked at how dear it was (especially Italy). I was in expensive places (Barcelona & Sorrento) but in Barcelona a Starbucks was about 4-5 quid (2-3 in the U.K. at the time). It’s the reason I don’t go to Europe much on holiday now. We did go to Cyprus last year but did AI, which I usually hate but it would have cost an absolute fortune to do SC or B&B. We usually go to the states but the dollar rate is crap as well now (I’m old enough to remember 2 dollars to the pound).

Almahart · 03/08/2019 20:03

I wish I’d bought some euros earlier

It’s only going to get worse

Benjispruce · 03/08/2019 20:04

Holidaying in the UK,it’s great thanks! 😉

BrexitBingoGenerator · 03/08/2019 20:04

@taswama honestly- attach a horsebox to the back of your car/plane/ship and stuff it to the gunnells with everything you will need to buy in advance! The checkout woman in the supermarket said that she pitied is today and wished us good luck in life, it was totally pathetic.

Alsohuman · 03/08/2019 20:04

We’ve resigned ourselves to staying in the UK for the foreseeable. Farewell, happy places. 💔

cottonwoolsnowmen · 03/08/2019 20:08

But doesn't it feel so good to be taking back control?

franklymydearidontgivea · 03/08/2019 20:08

PMSL.... I can't afford why now.... 1st world problem....and the exchange rate has not suddenly made wine unaffordable get a grip OP.

franklymydearidontgivea · 03/08/2019 20:09

Sorry I was laughing so much, that should have said wine 🤣🤣🤣🤣

timeforakinderworld · 03/08/2019 20:09

Italy has big differences in price. Sorrento is super expensive. Last night in Italy I had 3 glasses of wine and a plate of meat, cheese and sandwiches for 2 - for 10 euros which I think was a bargain! I get paid in euros and am coming to the UK next week. Brexit has already cost me hundreds so far least I'll be able to afford a holiday!

Danglingmod · 03/08/2019 20:13

Food is more expensive in France than England, anyway - has been for as long as I can remember... Takes a shit exchange rate to make the wine more, though!

Yes, this was always going to happen...

timshelthechoice · 03/08/2019 20:16

All the eco warriors who feel that poor people shouldn't travel will be thrilled. This is just the beginning.

BrexitBingoGenerator · 03/08/2019 20:17

@franklymydearidontgivea ok, laugh away if you think that advances anything.

It is a first world problem but the fact is, our currency is worth less and less and people in France think we are twats. So, yep.

OP posts:
MagicErmintrude · 03/08/2019 20:22

Surely the exchange rate isn't making that much difference? Since Boris came to power, a euro costs 2p more. France is very expensive, we live here. Prices went up considerably in February due to new legislation, that's what's causing most of the increases.

woman19 · 03/08/2019 20:24

Performers at the Edinburgh International Festival are refusing to be paid in sterling because they’re so worried about it mainting its value. “No-one wants to do deals in sterling anymore” its Director says. Once the global reserve currency and now....

twitter.com/lewis_goodall/status/1157669385743605761

Swings and roundabouts though.

Crispin Odey is worth a google to see how much pallid men(who are funding the 'brexit') are making out of our decimated currency, and countries.

Monestasi · 03/08/2019 20:24

But it’s the will of the people!

Was great for me passing through UK recently... I stocked up plenty.

Was at a dinner this evening, with different EU nationalities at the table, all asking why? Just why is the UK doing this... Smart, multilingual people were able to discuss this question far far better than any leaver I’ve encountered.

It’s Britain’s lookout now. The EU is done with it.

But yes, it’s about to get so much worse. Good for those that are happy to holiday in ole Blighty.

gamesanddaisychains · 03/08/2019 20:29

We have just returned from an extended holiday driving through Europe in a motorhome to Greece and back. Fuel prices in France are one of the most expensive in Europe. The cheapest was Luxembourg (much cheaper than here). Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary were all relatively cheap compared to the UK.

woman19 · 03/08/2019 20:31

It was , allegedly, the will of the people, several years ago......

What clothes were even in fashion in 2016?

It was a long time ago........

MagicErmintrude · 03/08/2019 20:32

Exactly games France is no longer cheap.

SistemaAddict · 03/08/2019 20:34

But the BeLeavers all said it would be ffiiiiinnnee, just grow or make your own or buy British because it's all a load of fuss like Y2K iinnit? Wot u need is to be more optimistic OP, where's yer blitz spirit?! We didn't win wars with your attitude u know! We are taking back our SOVEREIGNTY and CONTROL of our laws and borders. We will be GREAT again and put the GREAT back into Great Britain. Sod Northern Ireland-leave 'em to shoot and blow each other up. Not our problem is it as what matters is keeping Johnny Foreigner out and if some people suffer then that's a small price to pay to have our great country back. All them nutters not believing and casting doubts on cress growing and the ability to provide enough food for ourselves. We survived before the EU and we'll survive without them again! And they need us more than we need them any way dontcha know. We grow grapes down south don't we-there'll be plenty of wine to go around! Seriously OP, give your head a wobble-there'll be plenty of wine! We just need to grow our own grapes. Can you not stick a vine or two in your orangery? You just need to be creative! None of this gloom-mongering. Brexit is the land of opportunity and glory! This time next year we'll all be millionaires Grin

I call HOUSE on my own comment Smile

52% are twats, 48% knew this would happen but it was all just project fear Hmm

TanMateix · 03/08/2019 20:34

Oh yes, that’s the will of the people. Would get nicer when we cannot afford food and there are no medicines, cancer treatment is suspended and there are no doctors to take care of us for free, but then we will say it is all Europe’s fault and we’ll believe it.
