to report this delivery driver?

OrcharD14 · 02/08/2019 18:21

I’m new here & would welcome some advice please.
DPD delivered a parcel to me today. As I was about to take it from the delivery man, he touched my back saying that there was a wasp & acted as though he was shooing it away. I laughed & told him not to worry, ( I wanted to sign for it quickly as I was worried that my indoor cat might escape) , when I suddenly realized that his hand was under the back of my t- shirt. I moved away quickly, signed for the parcel & as I was shutting the door, he smiled & said he hoped I’d enjoy the rest of my day! I now wish I’d given him a piece of my mind, but it all happened so quickly. I shop regularly online ; all the drivers have always been polite & behaved in an appropriate manner.

Yes I'd report that. I'd be concerned for another 'customer ' or if he came back and took it further.

We are so programmed to be polite that we let people away with this. I think I'd have done the same. I'm really angry for you.

sirmione16 · 02/08/2019 18:31

Inappropriate in my eyes and I'd definitely be putting in a complaint

PennyNotSoWise · 02/08/2019 18:32

YANBU

Really creepy behaviour. How would he have seen a wasp on your back, presuming you were facing him?

bewilderedhedgehog · 02/08/2019 19:26

report - not ok

HappyHammy · 02/08/2019 19:28

Of course report it. Its totally inappropriate and assault.

GruciusMalfoy · 02/08/2019 19:30

You definitely should report this. It's completely inappropriate of him.

newmomof1 · 02/08/2019 19:31

Erm WTF?! Definitely report!

Jellybabiesarebabies · 02/08/2019 19:32

Definitely report him. I doubt this will be the last time he does this to someone and next time it might be much worse.

bernietaupinspen · 02/08/2019 19:38

You signed up newly to mumsnet to ask what to do?

I would have called the company straight away

berryhead2013 · 02/08/2019 20:08

OMG I used to have a DPD driver like that but he left our area other people had complained about him what was his first name was it John by any chance he used to ask me for a hug as he was having a bad day and my neighbor used to get asked for kisses Pervy swine that he was

lololove · 02/08/2019 21:36

We had one that fancied my neighbour and quite pointedly asked questions about her and her home status - being told nothing in response didn't put him off and he was really really weird! He got moved off deliveries for a bit when DPD were contacted - haven't seen him since.

I always have a bit of dread when Amazon deliver incase it's one driver in particular who's creepy as fuck and talks about innocent things but in an inuendo filled way and keeps winking and hesitating when handing you parcels so his hand touches yours for a bit too long. It's a bit hard cos you can't answer "What did he say?" with ".. it's not what he said but the way he said it."as you sound like a snowflake but he really is deeply unpleasant to be around. He makes my skin crawl.

Definitely complain though - if he's that casually confident about it he might do it with lots of women and who knows what might happen if he gets it into his head that you're interested because you never told him where to go (I totally understand why you didn't and sometimes your brain takes an extra minute or two to realise what has happened and in that time he's gone!)

OrcharD14 · 02/08/2019 22:50

Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond - much appreciated.
I definitely intend to report him as I would hate him to feel that this is acceptable & feel emboldened to do this, or worse, to someone younger & more vulnerable.

Having reflected on the situation, I’m convinced that the wasp scenario was a total ruse as I’d already shut all the windows so that I could leave as soon as my parcel had been delivered & my cat is adept at spotting any type of insect, which she always tries unsuccessfully to catch.

Also, I’d left a neighbour’s number in case I had to leave before the delivery arrived & it would’ve probably been her teenage daughter who answered the door - I’d have been horrified if this had happened to her.

Bernietaupinspen, my instinct was to report but, I felt a bit shaken up & wasn’t sure if I was thinking straight.

Who the fuck has voted YABU?!

Of course you're not, what a creep! I would have bollocked him but I'm an asshole like that Grin

OrcharD14 · 02/08/2019 23:17

FatThor, thank you. I’m normally feisty & always stand my ground, but this was so unexpected that I didn’t react quickly enough.
I had the presence of mind to look out of the window immediately to get his vehicle reg. but, despite there being ample parking space, ( residents only parking & most people are at work on a weekday afternoon), he’d parked further away. I grabbed my keys & ran outside, only to see his vehicle turning out of our road.

DPD will know who he was. They can track any delivery. They’re all programmed into their scanners. Your address/date of delivery should be enough.

OrcharD14 · 02/08/2019 23:30

Thank you Xmasfairy86. I’ve never had to report anyone in years of internet shopping - maybe I’ve just been lucky?!

MuddlingMackem · 02/08/2019 23:36

@OrcharD14, if you phone the customer services with the parcel number - you should find it on the label - they'll be able to track the parcel info and raise a complaint for you about the driver.

Berryhead2013, I’ve no idea what his name was. He was an Asian guy, probably late 20s / early 30s. He was very smiley ; I apologized for not opening the door fully as I was worried that my indoor cat would escape. He replied,’Don’t worry - you must be Ann -Marie’. I just felt relieved that he understood as lots of the delivery guys have very little English. I feel very foolish & angry now.

OrcharD14 · 02/08/2019 23:58

StapleYour Tongue, Why on earth would I fabricate this?!
Yes, I was facing him. He handed me the parcel, which was heavier than I thought so I turned round, with difficulty, to lift it over my front step into my hallway, hence I momentarily had my back to him. My door was in front of me.

As I said in my op, he initially purported to shoo a wasp away, but I immediately realized his hand was up the back of my t-shirt. Unfortunately,I was too shocked to challenge him immediately - that doesn’t make me a liar!

StapleYour Tongue, Why would I want to slander a company, which until today, has delivered many parcels , without incident?

I believe you OrcharD14.

OrcharD14 · 03/08/2019 00:14

ZazieTheCat, thank you. I hadn’t expected a forensic analysis of my encounter with this man in order to be believed!

Melissasummerfield, I didn’t open my front door fully, as I’ve already explained, in case my indoor cat escaped. However, it was momentarily open widely enough for a large package to be passed through - how long do you think it took him to put his hand up the back of my t-shirt??!
