to report this delivery driver?

I’m new here & would welcome some advice please.
DPD delivered a parcel to me today. As I was about to take it from the delivery man, he touched my back saying that there was a wasp & acted as though he was shooing it away. I laughed & told him not to worry, ( I wanted to sign for it quickly as I was worried that my indoor cat might escape) , when I suddenly realized that his hand was under the back of my t- shirt. I moved away quickly, signed for the parcel & as I was shutting the door, he smiled & said he hoped I’d enjoy the rest of my day! I now wish I’d given him a piece of my mind, but it all happened so quickly. I shop regularly online ; all the drivers have always been polite & behaved in an appropriate manner.

When I read the title I was expecting something overly precious like he asked to use the toilet.

When I read what he did then I’ve got to say he massively overstepped the mark. He shouldn’t be touching you like that and I hope you report him,

YANBU

YANBU. You must report him

OrcharD14 · 04/08/2019 19:05

I’ve reported the delivery man to DPD, who promised to investigate this incident as a matter of urgency & report back to me.
However, my neighbour, who’s a criminal solicitor, said I should report him to the police as well, as the company will probably just move him to a different area.
Thanks again everyone for your contributions.

And are you going to?

OrcharD14 · 04/08/2019 22:30

Bernietaupinspen, Yes, I will. However, my neighbour pointed out that the chances of prosecution are minimal as he’d probably argue that he touched me accidentally, whilst shooing away the wasp & it’s his word against mine. She did say that it’s still worthwhile as, in her experience, if men are accused of serious assaults, it’s useful to have other incidents on file, even if they didn’t go to trial.

Hopefully by reporting him, he’ll think twice about doing it again? If he does do it again, as you’ve mentioned, it’ll be on some kind of file.

Jellybabiesarebabies · 05/08/2019 12:56

Yes it's definitely worth having it on file as it can be used as evidence towards future cases.

Schuyler · 05/08/2019 13:24

YA totally NBU. I believe you.
I have accidentally said YABU before when I meant YANBU on here so don’t worry too much about people who’ve voted that. Also, ignore anyone on here who interrogates you. Why would you lie?! They’re twats. Flowers

MulticolourMophead · 05/08/2019 13:32

Having heard of other cases in my area, I have no reason to believe OP is lying. DPD drivers are mostly self-employed, aren't they?

OrcharD14 · 05/08/2019 17:09

MulticolourMophead , I don’t know if their drivers are self-employed. The lady I reported him to couldn’t answer whether their staff have to undergo DBS checks.

Anyway, I’ve reported him to the police & they’re sending an officer round to speak to me this time next week.

Thanks again for all of your contributions & advice.

An update for all of you who so kindly supported me.
When a police constable came round to take a statement, she asked me what DPD had done. I said that they hadn’t got back to me,(5 days later), & she said that I should get back in touch. I then called them only to discover that the depot had decided that it was my word against his so didn’t bother to escalate the complaint. However, when I said I’d reported him to the police, someone senior called me & apologized profusely for the correct procedures not having been followed. The next day, she called to say that he’d been interviewed by his managers but the results couldn’t be disclosed as it’s now a police matter.
I’m now awaiting a response from the investigating officer. X

I’m glad you reported him FlowersWine

PuzzledObserver · 18/08/2019 23:15

Well done for reporting, OP.

Even if it comes to nothing in terms of either disciplinary or police action, it will be on record. His card is marked. These men need to know that not everyone will let them get away with this stuff.

Aprillygirl · 18/08/2019 23:44

Ugh what a creep. Well done for reporting him and hopefully saving others from encounters with this pervert OP. Flowers

Magenta82 · 19/08/2019 10:52

Well one OP, you stood up for yourself and anyone else he tries it on with in future!

the depot had decided that it was my word against his so didn’t bother to escalate the complaint

This is awful, how on earth can they justify that to themselves?! What sort of thought processes must be involved in that? It's like the last 50 years never happened!
