DH wants to go camping tomorrow

And the weather forecast is awful (SW) - thunder, heavy rain. I understand he is keen to get away as has been busy at work and we have a short window before his sister comes to visit (which he invited) so need to make the best of it.

But it will be hell Sad He things it will be Ok the next day and we will be set up. I think he is mad and anyway he arranged his sister's visit. and we need to go for less. He can also get on with some things he wants to do before his sister comes (fixing electric fittings and the shower re previous post about extreme cleaning / tidying)

I'd refuse to go. Camping is hell on Earth on a good day, let alone in that weather.

sillysmiles · 29/07/2019 16:38

If he needs a mental break could you do a day trip and get away from normal? No way I'd be planning to camp in a thunder storm.

Troels · 29/07/2019 16:42

Oh god no, Camping in the stormy rainy weather. Camping is hell, add in this weather on it's way and how do you describe worse than hell?

user87382294757 · 29/07/2019 16:42

I think he should use the time to get ready for his sisters visit and then we can stay longer at the weekend as home will be ready. Then we can go when the weather is better.

Dairyqueen2 · 29/07/2019 16:43

Check the likelihood of the storm - they give a percentage on the BBC weather site. Sometimes they give the storm symbol and a warning, but when you look it's only something like 30%

HairyFloppins · 29/07/2019 16:44

I wouldn't go camping in nice weather so YANBU to not want to go.

Oysterbabe · 29/07/2019 16:44

Camping is only fun if your tent is nicer than your house.

lmusic87 · 29/07/2019 16:45

No way!

Compromise - tidy during the day and a meal out/relax at night.

user87382294757 · 29/07/2019 16:46

Just checked the weather- thought it might improve but it says

What with this and the family visit I am tempted to run away!

I'm holidaying in N.Devon atm & the weather tomorrow is for heavy rain & winds of up to 50 mph. Forget camping....that's for boy scouts & festivals. Cant you just stay in a hotel for a few days instead.

MitziK · 29/07/2019 16:49

Could you not 'extreme tidy up' and accidentally put the tent somewhere it won't be found until next week?

user87382294757 · 29/07/2019 16:52

We could just stay home! It will be raining am and not going to go if it is...might be fun just to laugh at the hell of it though! In a 'told you so' kind of way.

SeraphinaDombegh · 29/07/2019 16:57

The last time we went camping we had to pitch up in weather like that, and it was AWFUL. One of the worst days I've ever had. Kids couldn't play out, didn't have much to keep them happy in the tent... utter hell on earth. If it hadn't stopped raining the next day we would have packed up and gone home. Your DH is mad to think this is a good idea. I wouldn't go.

Itwasalljustabaddream · 29/07/2019 16:59

Nooooo! The SW tomorrow has the worst forecast I've ever seen!!!

Mitzimaybe · 29/07/2019 17:00

If he wants to go camping, let him go camping. Just choose not to go with him.

ODFOx · 29/07/2019 17:01

He needs to get away.
You can't bear the thought of camping.
AIR BnB or Premier Innsimilar. 2 nights somewhere with lots to see and do. Cram loads in and he'll be refreshed by thurs am to come home and plough on.

Windygate · 29/07/2019 17:02

Isn't this the man who wants the carpet to be replaced, bathroom tiles re grouted and house cleaned to ridiculous standards for the state visit of his sister?

isseywithcats · 29/07/2019 17:12

No dont do it we have just spent a very wet weekend in a tent at a bike rally in Derby, they have a huge marquee for the bands so that was the escape pad and even i was fed up of the sodding rain by sunday, forecast was for sun and showers, it pissed it down for two solid days, only went because had bought the tickets and booked time off work wish we hadnt gone now

user87382294757 · 29/07/2019 17:31

Windygate yes it is! I am interested to see how he will deal with this camping palaver and the impending visit

OP posts:
Mollieben1 · 29/07/2019 17:33

Nope. I like camping but not in bad weather - it is horrendous and you end up spending loads of money. Can you look for a caravan or hotel instead??

RockinHippy · 29/07/2019 17:49

If you have a decent tent & a gazebo of some sort that you know will stand up to the weather & can get the tent set up before it rains, go for it, there's nothing nicer than camping in a thunderstorm & you will get sun too

ProfessionalBullshitter · 29/07/2019 17:50

That would be a massive ‘no’ from me.

YouTheCat · 29/07/2019 17:53

How about you leave him to his camping and unrealistic house expectations and bugger off to a nice b and b for a few days? Let him get on with it.

HelloDoris · 29/07/2019 17:54

We are in Cornwall currently, it's been heavy downpours on and off and it's due to get worse tomorrow, no way would I be camping in this weather, the wind is gusting, putting up a tent would be a nightmare.
