to have considered pulling my own tooth?

Got severe toothache. Can't get to a dentist. Can't take decent painkillers as am breastfeeding. Called 111 6 times since the 16th, no dentists available. Phoned every dentist in my city. I can't look after my son properly. I'm a lone parent who just left an abusive relationship. I'm anxious and depressed and can't cope anymore with this pain. I need help. I even thought about just pulling my tooth out (worked out it's pretty much impossible as it's at the back) but that's how awful the pain is. I don't know what to do. If you had this much pain anywhere else in your body you would be in a&e. I feel like smashing my face against a wall just to distract from the tooth pain.

WWYD if you were me?

Go to a and e

RozHuntleysStump · 27/07/2019 10:58

Don’t waste your time at a and e. They won’t give af. If you can hang on till the morning you should have an emergency dentist that opens on sundays and holidays only. That’s where I tend to go when I’m desperate, which is often as my teeth are knackered. There must be one in your area!

hereforit · 27/07/2019 10:59

Roz I've tried phoning every day for almost 2 weeks. There's nothing. They book up within 5 minutes. I even went to one in the morning to queue but by the time I got to the desk they were booked up.

Or go private and put it on a credit card if you have one. I totally sympathise because I have been there a few times and I have 3 disabled kids to look after. It’s hell.

MrsTommyBanks · 27/07/2019 11:00

Where abouts are you? Most hospitals with a dental teaching dept will take walk in patients.

Oysterbabe · 27/07/2019 11:01

Where do you live? Mumsnetters are pretty great at finding stuff, I bet someone will know where you can go.

hereforit · 27/07/2019 11:02

I can't afford private. I'm in debt and on maternity leave on zero pay and have just left a financially abusive relationship. I have nothing. I'm at rock bottom. I genuinely can't cope with this

The one in Hull is good. Idk where you are. My face swelled up with infection once and I was still given short shrift at a&e. Another time I’d overdone codeine and was really sick. Had to be rehydrated and they were still horrible. It’s such a nightmare. Toothache just gets disregarded and I don’t understand why.

I'm in agony. I have been in constant agony for nearly two weeks . I've had enough. I just want the pain gone

Where are you? Is there a dental hospital in your nearest city?

hereforit · 27/07/2019 11:12

There's a dental hospital. I put myself on the cancellation list on Friday because they are booked up.

If you can get to a pharmacy and get some Oil of Cloves it might help until you can get to the dentist. Put a drop on your finger and put it right on the tooth that hurts.

HairyFloppins · 27/07/2019 11:26

Where are you OP? We have quite a few NHS dentists taking on here.

If not would a family lend you a bit to see a private dentist in the mean time, just to get rid of the pain? I know I would help a family member out. Toothache is the worst.

hereforit · 27/07/2019 11:28

I'm in East of England. Apparently there is a dental crisis here. On phone to 111 again.

That's a shame we are in Staffs. Have you got a local Facebook group to ask on?, there are always people asking for dentists on ours.

Good luck with 111.

hereforit · 27/07/2019 11:35

I've given up. I'm going to get some co codamol and just stop breastfeeding. I will have to express and my son will have to have formula. Soonest appointment I can get is the 9th. Such a joke

OP posts:
53rdWay · 27/07/2019 11:36

How old is your son? I’ve been prescribed cocodamol and dihydrocodeine while breastfeeding before. BFN factsheets on painkillers and breastfeeding are good.

hereforit · 27/07/2019 11:39

He's 9 months. My neighbour smokes weed. God it's tempting

OP posts:
gamerchick · 27/07/2019 11:42

You don't need to stop breastfeeding at 9 months to take co codamol OP

gamerchick · 27/07/2019 11:43

Paramol is better though

hereforit · 27/07/2019 11:45

Really? Gp said definitely don't take it as it can make baby drowsy

OP posts:
bevelino · 27/07/2019 11:46

Is there a walk in (urgent care) centre nearby as they can refer you to an emergency dentist.

Jemima232 · 27/07/2019 11:46

You can take co-codamol when you're breastfeeding, OP.

Ring 111. There is always an emergency NHS dentist available.

hereforit · 27/07/2019 11:47

There really isn't always an emergency dentist available
