Fed up of going to do 'the big shop'. Why does it need doing every week???
I've come to two options: stop eating or online shopping. Seeing as DP and DD probably want to keep eating, I might have to resort to online.
Any recommendations on which supermarket to use? Currently shop in Morrisons but only for convenience as it's closest, will try anywhere.

I online shop with Morrisons and I love it. Takes me about half hour to do one evening a week. Rarely any missing items or subs. I pay for the midweek delivery pass which was £20 for 6 months. Most importantly you can still collect More points and use your vouchers online. Drivers are always lovely and always on time and you get money back for giving them your bags back from the previous delivery

Feawen · 26/07/2019 18:46

I use Ocado and would thoroughly recommend - we do have substitutions sometimes but never silly ones. Occasionally I’ve had to be a bit flexible about meals to account for dates but it’s rare. The minor drawbacks are greatly outweighed by the benefit of not having to go to a supermarket!

I’ve used Morrison’s as well and found them fine, just prefer Ocado’s range or products overall.

JocastaJones · 26/07/2019 19:04

Ocado is expensive though!

AnyFucker · 26/07/2019 19:07

Another recommendation for online Morrison's. It has transformed my one day off work. I also do the 20 quid delivery thing.

I don't know how to add points to my More card though. Can you help @mumderland ?

EssentialHummus · 26/07/2019 19:07

Another vote for Ocado. Their “instant shop” feature (based on previous shops) means you can basically do your shop in 5 minutes or less if you order the same things regularly. Not sure if the others do this? It’s great. Price wise it is more expensive but a combination of vouchers and multi buys makes it worthwhile for me.

swampytiggaa · 26/07/2019 19:08

I use Tesco. Mostly because husband works there so we get discount 🙂

I buy the annual pass which I pay for with Clubcard vouchers so my shopping pays for delivery 🙂 I tick the no substitutions box so that’s what I get 😁

AnyFucker · 26/07/2019 19:08

Morrison's do the same

hammeringinmyhead · 26/07/2019 19:09

I use Tesco. They regularly give me £15 off an £80 shop through the post.

CharityConundrum · 26/07/2019 19:12

I like Morrisons too, but have shopped online with all the major supermarkets around here: Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons and Ocado/Waitrose and they are all pretty much of a muchness in this area at least. My kids are a nightmare in the supermarket, so I have been online shopping for years and I'm a huge fan!

I like Morrisons because they have a big 'world foods' section online (they come from a central distribution centre here, not one of the actual shops, but I'm not sure if that's standard) and you can get cheap gyoza, massive bags of rice for tuppence, loads of different herbs and spices in decent sized packages, a wide variety of tinned and dried beans and I don't think I've ever had a weird substitution from them. They also text you to let you know if anything is missing which is handy.

I also found it easier to start with a supermarket that I was familiar with as it was easy to search for the foods I knew I wanted. If you get the app, you can add things as you run out/remember/spot a nice recipe etc which really cuts down on how many things I forget in an average shop. I think most of them allow you to scan barcodes of the food you have in the cupboards to add them to your shop which makes me feel like I live in the future as well!

VirginiaCreeper · 26/07/2019 19:12

I haven't done a "big" good shop for many years. No idea why anyone would prefer to trail round a supermarket and cart all the stuff home when they could have it delivered. I've tried all the online ones. Ocado are the best but most expensive. Tesco pretty good. I pay for a years delivery with Tesco clubcard points. Ocado send me a free smartpass every so often.
Whoever you choose the first few shops are the hardest. Once set up with all your favourite stuff it's quick and easy.

banskuwansku · 26/07/2019 19:13

We use Sainsbury's. We did Ocado for three months with the 30% off diets shop and free delivery for three months. I like Ocado's products but we spend £20-30 more every week compared to Sainsbury's. When we had used the three months Sainsbury's tsend vouchers £15 off of £100 spend. Now waiting for offer from Ocado so that we would use them for a change.

mumderland · 26/07/2019 19:23

@AnyFucker I downloaded the more app and created an account and if I remember rightly I linked my more card. From there you can choose how to spend your vouchers. Also if you have kids you can join the baby club and you can get extra points/deals

ladybird69 · 26/07/2019 19:24

I love Sainsbury’s they offer free delivery mon-thurs if order over £100. I used Asda once, there was £40 worth of shopping missing and it took 5 months for them to refund me! I can’t wait until M&S deliver.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 26/07/2019 19:27

I like food shopping (we call it grocery shopping). I get out of the house and get some time to myself. I get to see new products and taste test all the samples being offered. And after I load up the car I drive through Krispy Kreme and treat myself to a dozen donuts as a reward.
Then when I get home my son unloads the car, puts away the groceries,
and treats himself to half my donuts!

MammaMia19 · 26/07/2019 19:29

I had really bad experiences with Asda
I online shop and click and collect with Tesco it’s great! If something has a short date they tell you so you have the choice of not accepting it. Never had any weird subs with them and barely get any subs come to think of it

cccameron · 26/07/2019 19:33

Have to add my vote for ocado. I don't find it more expensive than other supermarkets. They price match with Tesco and refund if its over. They have great offers and flash sales and virtually no substitutions

littlepooch · 26/07/2019 19:38

I love ocado. It is more expensive though but god the ease and convenience. The app is so so good.

In an attempt to save money and budget I attempted the food shop this week at Tesco. Half an hour in, with my youngest in the trolley moaning, I remembered why I don't. For the sake of my sanity I'm willing to spend an extra £10 a week and am just going to be extra careful on what I buy at ocado.

BarberBabyBubbles · 26/07/2019 19:41

Another vote for ocado. Never any silly substations, they price match, the app is AMAZING. I don’t find it more than Sainsburys and the service is just so good. My weekly shop takes about 10 minutes.

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/07/2019 19:44

We use Tesco click and collect. It's my least favourite supermarket but shopping like this saves money. We use it because it's convenient.

theWarOnPeace · 26/07/2019 19:46

Another vote for Ocado! I’ve tried them all, Ocado wins. They’re very much in the no quibble category of life. If an egg is broken they refund the whole box without missing a beat. Freebies, they bring it right in to the house if you want, they call when on the way and are just a real pleasure. They have loads of deals so you can do a cheap shop, but also have some really interesting and unusual items. No way on earth would I traipse around the shops and lug it all back. I also bulk buy whatever’s on offer that we use regularly, and if Ocado have offers on fancy stuff then I have a cupboard or freezer full of luxury things for a while. Even just now I’ve bought 24 Andrew toilet rolls from Ocado for £7. I don’t think that can be more than another supermarket right now surely? It’s about building up your stocks through offers for me.

babysharkah · 26/07/2019 19:47

Sainsbury's. I will never go and do a 'big shop' again. Haven't since my kids were born 8 years ago.

theWarOnPeace · 26/07/2019 19:47

Agree also that Ocado is no more than Sainsbury’s or Tesco - in fact Sainsbury’s the last time I went in there I was shocked at the prices!

gamerwidow · 26/07/2019 19:48

We use Tesco because it’s cheap, we hardly ever get substitutes and when we do they’re not stupid and the food they pick always has a good shelf life.

Mumof1andacat · 26/07/2019 19:49

I detest food shopping! We've been doing sainsbury's online for about 2 yrs. I love it. I don't mind popping in for odd bits but a big shop is always online now.

gamerwidow · 26/07/2019 19:49

in fact Sainsbury’s the last time I went in there I was shocked at the prices!
Sainsbury’s has always been more expensive than the other big names. I saved a fortune when I switched to Tesco.
