...to absolutely HATE putting on duvet covers???

Is there any reasonable substitute - am thinking something like an upmarket “bedspread” ? I use a top sheet as well as a fitted sheet to cut down the actual times I need to change cover but still dread the job! Help!

I used to hate it but I now use the inside out method and find it much less hassle. (lay cover inside out on top of duvet. Reach up inside cover and grab corners of duvet through the cover - do not let go. Gradually pull down stuffing quilt in as you go.) We have a super kingsize so can't grab both corners at once, so grab one and start pulling it down then keep hold and swap sides.

Sure, I got a nice bedspread from The White Company.

The only problem with some bedspreads is if they're quilted and too big for the washing machine.

Sheets, blankets and a bedspread are much more adaptable to variations in temperature- both external and self-generated when you hit the menopause.Grin

But I don't mind doing the duvet covers once I'd figured out a way that worked for me - mine involves 4 extra large clippits.

NannyR · 26/07/2019 14:34

Google the "burrito" method, I get kids to make their own beds doing it that way - it might not work that easily with a kingsize though.

Duvet cover inside out, grab the two corners of the cover along with two corners of the duvet. Job's a good 'un.

Charley34 · 26/07/2019 14:35

I have a super king size one and it kills me putting it on but I do love fresh bedding after a cool shower!

ErrolTheDragon · 26/07/2019 14:35

We have a super kingsize so can't grab both corners at once

That's where the clippits come in.

Bridget1983 · 26/07/2019 14:42

It’s the WORST household chore!! I completely agree

unknownn · 26/07/2019 14:43

Im not sure how you put your duvet covers on, but i learnt a hack a while back and i dont know what i did without it!! Its hard to write but .. you take your duvet cover and turn it inside out. Put your hands inside and find the two top corners. You should now be holding one corner in each hand. With your hands inside the duvet cover, reach down to grab hold of the duvets top two corners. Holding the top two corners tightly, flip the duvet cover right side out over the duvet. Give it a shake until the duvet cover falls down to cover the duvet, do the buttons up and wolla easy peasy, done in seconds.

arethereanyleftatall · 26/07/2019 14:44

You tube the roll method. Life changer.

unknownn · 26/07/2019 14:45

started writing it before i refreshed screen and see everyone has already recommended my hack lol.

MaMisled · 26/07/2019 14:46

In the course of my day at work, i put approximately 5 to 10 duvet covers on and i am an expert. I recently bought a superking size bed and changing the duvet makes me cry!

gotmychocolateimgood · 26/07/2019 14:46

In the summer we don't use our actual duvets. I keep them in storage bags and use the empty duvet covers on their own. Like sleeping under a sheet. Changing the bed is much easier which is a bonus.

catgirl1976 · 26/07/2019 14:47

Watching with interstellar because DS manages to completely remove his duvet from its cover in his sleep every. Single. Night. So I have to put it back in every single day. Is a nightmare

catgirl1976 · 26/07/2019 14:48

Interest not interstellar Grin

Knittedfairies · 26/07/2019 15:15

You need to watch this

nevermorelenore · 26/07/2019 15:18

You can buy printed duvets now that don’t need a cover. You just pop the whole thing in the machine. I like them as I always find the duvet slides down the cover and I wake up feeling cold!

ColouringPencils · 26/07/2019 15:28

Agree, worst job! We have a super king. How has this not been established as a 'man's job' yet?? Surely it's so much easier for someone taller and with a wider arm span?

Neckercheiftheif · 26/07/2019 15:29

Do the inside out method! Make sure you put the cover inside out in the wash first then once dry grab the corners to line up and flip!

DGRossetti · 26/07/2019 15:58

Google the "burrito" method

+1 Grin

It really is the one weird trick that could change your life

Also saving up for some envelope duvet covers ...

Icecreamsoda99 · 26/07/2019 16:10

I feel you OP! And it's way too hot changing beds in this weather, also I got annoyed this morning that good quality duvets have buttons now when poppers are so much easier and quicker (and less likely to come off in the washing machine!)

JoFrensham · 27/07/2019 17:26

I changed 26 single beds one day in my old job and I only worked 5 hours. It nearly bloody killed me as I also had to clean bedroom and ensuites, all because my boss didn't like me and made my life hell to try and make me leave. Big mistake cos I just got on with it, I wasn't letting that bitch push me out even if it was killing me

TheHandsOfNeilBuchanan · 27/07/2019 18:05

I've got a superking; duvet cover inside out put your arms into the bottom corners, grab the duvet corners and shake, so it falls down over the duvet, don't let go until it's 90% there , then straighten the end and do it up. I do it standing on the bed.

recrudescence · 27/07/2019 18:15

35 years ago I discovered my husband was very good at duvet covers and they have been his job ever since. I don’t know what method he uses but it is very vigorous - frightening even - and I usually leave the room.

Dieu · 27/07/2019 18:16

I hate this job too!
The burrito method probably wouldn't work for me, as I'm dyspraxic and would no doubt fuck it up.
Plus, it looks like it would take longer than the usual way!

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 27/07/2019 18:32

Only thing I miss about being married was having help with it. TBH I often used to go up to bed on sheet changing day and find him passed out on the bare mattress. One of the many reasons I LTB.
