Is there any reasonable substitute - am thinking something like an upmarket “bedspread” ? I use a top sheet as well as a fitted sheet to cut down the actual times I need to change cover but still dread the job! Help!

Quilt clips from dunhelm are brilliant

Use a fitted sheet and a top sheet then quilts and blankets over that in layers according to the season. I just use a thin crocheted cotton blanket in the summer but in the winter I’ve got a wool Pendleton blanket and a couple of quilts made by my great grandmother in the 1930s on top of that. Bed looks much nicer and cosier than it does with a fat wrinkly duvet as well. No one the US where I’m from used duvets and duvet covers and I’ve never gotten on with them. I change the sheets once or twice a week and wash the cotton blanket at the same time but all the other quilts and blankets are protected from touching actual humans so just need airing once in a while.

I also support the burrito method.
It took me a few goes to get the hang of it but I wouldn’t change now.

Does anyone else (over the age of 45!) remember an episode of The Generation Game in the 1970s when duvets were still very new and the contestants had to put a cover on a duvet? It was so funny but I still remember when they did the "this is how its done" the man turned the cover inside out and just shook it over the duvet!

My duvet hack is to make my husband do it.

He puts the duvet over the banister and uses gravity somehow.

Changing duvet covers makes me want to punch people. So much so that it's the one household job that I've totally delegated to dh and the kids.
