To be annoyed I've 'funded a pervert'

I sat down to watch a scary film with a friend last night and I suggested the DVD Jeepers Creepers. My friend said 'you do realise the director is a peado and you've helped fund a pervert'.

I did some reading and sure enough the writer/director, Victor Salva, admitted to and was jailed in 1988 for grooming a 12yo and making/owning child porn.

Despite this he's had steady work in hollywood and I noticed he made a movie in 2011 with none other than metoo heavyweight Rose MCGowan! WTF!!!?? She called him a sweet and gentle man!

I'm sick to my stomach I own Jeepers Creepers and it's sequel and have just thrown them out, but equally confused that someone who went through what she did with Harvey Weinstein would work with a peado? Surely she would've been aware of his past?!

Anyway dunno what my AIBU is I'm just angry/confused/bewildered. Anyone else own this movie?

One of my dd’s favourite dvd’s is Babydriver and she has really struggled about this - until she saw a copy in a charity shop so felt that her money had gone to a good cause and not to Spacey

There would have been literally 100s of other people involved in making the film as well, the vast majority of which probably aren't pervs. The actors and writers etc. They don't deserve to have their film ruined just because the director was a perverted twat.

It’s an interesting question at what point the art someone has created should be boycotted due to their personal failings.

I guess I'm annoyed because the film was written and directed by a peado. If nobody hires Kevin Spacey now filmmakers will still get their moves made, just Christopher Plummer or someone else will get the job.

If a paedo filmmaker gets boycotted the movie won't get made and the other artists linked to the film will just have to find another job.

I think you have to reject this stuff even though your rejection is a drop in the ocean. You reject it to voice your disapproval, to display what you believe in where you can.

Plus most of the examples PP cited are from artists who did a body of work before being fully exposed. This guy made Jeepers Creepers 20 years post peado conviction so how can all those ppl accept working with this guy? There were no question marks about this guys character he is out and out evil.
