To be annoyed I've 'funded a pervert'

I sat down to watch a scary film with a friend last night and I suggested the DVD Jeepers Creepers. My friend said 'you do realise the director is a peado and you've helped fund a pervert'.

I did some reading and sure enough the writer/director, Victor Salva, admitted to and was jailed in 1988 for grooming a 12yo and making/owning child porn.

Despite this he's had steady work in hollywood and I noticed he made a movie in 2011 with none other than metoo heavyweight Rose MCGowan! WTF!!!?? She called him a sweet and gentle man!

I'm sick to my stomach I own Jeepers Creepers and it's sequel and have just thrown them out, but equally confused that someone who went through what she did with Harvey Weinstein would work with a peado? Surely she would've been aware of his past?!

Anyway dunno what my AIBU is I'm just angry/confused/bewildered. Anyone else own this movie?

I had no idea

I struggle to watch films with Corey and Corey Feldman in after the abuse they suffered.

I think the majority of Hollywood is or was corrupt though

We are all very likely funding loads of these people without even realising it.

GabsAlot · 25/07/2019 18:34

I own Seven and the Usual suspects should i burn them

Gingerkittykat · 25/07/2019 18:42

At risk of starting chaos and getting kicked off the site. I know someone who spent time behind bars for a child porn related activity and he's one of the nicest chaps I know. They are people too

A guy I used to respect was recently convicted of child grooming offences. I used to support his business (cattery) but will never put a single penny into his pocket again, and have made sure people around me know so they can make an informed decision.

Yes, sex offenders often have good qualities as well as the bad and are nice guys but part of the consequences of their crimes is the judgement from the community.

@EleanorOalike @joyfullittlehippo

I’m from that industry too, once upon a time. Please be careful what you post- I decided against posting on this topic because the perps I know weren’t convicted and posts such as yours could be considered slanderous / libellous. Mumsnet aren’t duty bound to keep your data confidential in a criminal enquiry.

Seems far fetched I know, but stranger things have happened.

GabsAlot · 25/07/2019 18:46

Sheep is right you cant accuse people that havent had a trial publicly -charges been dropped not alot you can do

PositiveVibez · 25/07/2019 18:46

You've already been corrected many times, but you know someone who went to prison because he got a sexual thrill off watching children being sexually abused.

What fucking lovely company you keep.

No. Not everyone deserves a second chance. It has been proven time and time again that people who are sexually attracted to children, cannot be rehabilitated.

I cannot separate art from the artist which sadly has made me lose total enjoyment of listening to David Bowie.

Every time I hear a Michael Jackson song now, my first thought is 'paedophile'

I cannot believe actors still work with roman polanksi who sodomised a 13 year old girl. It is only recently that he has had anybrepurcussions from this (not legal ones may I add)

NiLunNiLautre · 25/07/2019 18:50

You've done nothing wrong, OP, and like you I'm surprised this man had people willing to work with him and fund his films after his conviction; shouldn't be surprised though, what with all those people supporting the child rapist and fugitive from justice Roman Polanski.

And as for Francium and his/her lovely friend words fail me.

NiLunNiLautre · 25/07/2019 18:51

Cross post positive

Thanks @TheSheepofWallSt...I’ll ask for my post to be deleted. Frustrating as so many of us know the truth but I don’t want to be punished when it’s not me who’s done any harm.

Francium
Your feeble attempts to excuse/normalise paedophilia won't work on this site.

I don't believe that any kind of art becomes less good because of the actions of the artist. So you either like a film or you don't, and you can't help that.

That being said, I can understand you worrying about the financial side. I don't know what we can do, to be honest. The level you're talking about is so high up. They're all above the law. It's disgusting and wrong and I absolutely hate it with a passion, but how do you take down half of Hollywood? There'll be 100 more Harvey Weinsteins, each one as wealthy and untouchable as the last. Now excuse me whilst I go and throw up.Sad
