To want a slush puppie machine?

CacenCrunch · 24/07/2019 18:29

I've always wanted one. I was never allowed a Mr Frosty as a child (now I know why), but I still want one of these so badly. I've seen small ones for about £50 but I suppose they are crap. I could put prosecco or cider in it and sit in the sun ☀️ does anyone have any of the cheap ones? I know the proper ones are about £500 so that's not going to happen

I think B&M had a Slush Puppy machine at one point with the actual Slush Puppy dog logo. Cant remember how much for but doubt it was expensive in there

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 24/07/2019 18:31

We all wanted a Mr Frostie Sad but I think they're disappointing.

minou123 · 24/07/2019 18:33

I've just had a slush puppy from the local shop. I haven't had one in 20+ years.
It was delicious, but I did get a bit of a brain freeze.

Love to get my own machine, so watching with interest.

Argos sells one which has pretty good reviews

Justaboutawake · 24/07/2019 18:37

I have one! Was £40ish from amazon or studio I think.
It’s amazing! Real slushies but requires half a big bag of ice and lots of salt.
Slushies ready within 30mins and will last ages if you keep topping the ice up.
The serum is a bit expensive for what it is but you can get a good bargain online

DarlingCoffee · 24/07/2019 18:39

Our local across the road has one - it’s brilliant.

needanappp · 24/07/2019 18:39

DP bought me the one from Argos a few months back. It's fab but a bit of a faff so we don't use it as much as I thought we would! Fair warning, you'll need a lot of salt! Not something I knew before I bought mine. You have to put it in with the ice and keep adding it, it keeps the temperature of the ice down apparently.

Also not many places sell the syrup. They do sell it on amazon and eBay though.

This is the one I have

MadamWaffle · 24/07/2019 18:45

I wanted one when I was pregnant.

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 24/07/2019 18:47

B n m are selling one now

theydontknowweknow · 24/07/2019 18:54

We have the one for £40/£50, they're good but a bit of a faff so we don't use it as much as i'd like. Amazon have offers on multipacks of the syrup and i bought some of those Slush Puppie disposable cups for the full effect😂

Gingerkittykat · 24/07/2019 18:54

I have a blend active just to make slushie type drinks.

Add ice and cordial (I use elderflower) and a tiny bit of water and blend and you get exactly the right texture. I like the fact it is small and no faff at all.

blend active

GruciusMalfoy · 24/07/2019 18:58

I had a Tango ice blast thing at the cinema a few weeks ago, and was thinking ho E much I'd love a machine at home. I didn't realise it used loads of salt too though. Rethinking it now.

CacenCrunch · 25/07/2019 11:00

I have something very similar to the blend active, I'm going to try that out today - thanks for the suggestion. Looks a lot less hassle too

CacenCrunch · 25/07/2019 11:01

I already consume far too much salt too without having it in drinks

Comefromaway · 25/07/2019 11:04

I had one, it was amazing for 3 months (but required vast quantities of salt and ice) then the metal container developed a pinhole so salt seeped through into the slush.

BrieAndChilli · 25/07/2019 11:15

The salt isn’t in the actual drink!!! You put salt and ice inside the machine in the centre, this then cools the metal bowl which then cools the drink. There’s no salt in the actual slushie (unless like me you accidentally overfill the ice and it overflows into the drink Envy

I borrowed a large proper one from work for DDs leavers party. You just plug it in, fill with the mix and away you go, much less faff and works really well (you do have to make enough slushies for half the street though as can’t just make a Toney amount)

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 25/07/2019 11:25

Yanbu at all. I saw one in Ryman and have been obsessing.

But it's v quick to make granita in the freezer.
Or an ice cream machine might not cost much more.
Or just make ice lollies and stir just before they go solid.

CacenCrunch · 25/07/2019 11:32

I was wondering about the salt part 😂

YABU.

Buy a decent blender and enjoy slushies and smoothies made with frozen fruit.

Or do what I did as a kid when refused the Mr Frosty (we got one for DD1 and it turned out to be utter shit, complete with four extremely sharp blades exposed to little fingers AND the noise was like grinding polystyrene) - wrap ice cubes in a clean teatowel and batter the everlasting shit out of them with a rolling pin.

Use any cordial (or Soda stream) or go to Waitrose and get the various syrups they sell in the posh soft drinks aisle - or any Polish shop. My favourites are passionfruit, elderflower with some homemade mint syrup and cherry.

Another version would be combining the battered ice with blitzed up tinned peaches, a couple of handsquished raspberries, a mint sprig and gin (or vodka if you're some sort of heathen).

All of you who try this last option can thank me later. You could call it a Gin Mitzini.

KipperCuddlingGrimbots · 25/07/2019 12:10

In Sainsbury's at the minute they have Bellini (?), Mojito and other alcoholic cocktail ice lollies.
I think they're 4%.

It's like an alcoholic slushie done for you. Absolutely delicious too.

Or they do the pouches in the mixer aisle (where you get the mini cans of G&T..) that you put in the freezer for a few hours too.
I've had the lemon and raspberry Smirnoff sorbets and the rum punch ones.

ATowelAndAPotato · 25/07/2019 12:22

Tesco also do the alcoholic cocktail pouches that go in the freezer. They only have two flavours but for £1 each they are totally awesome!

Fucksandflowers · 25/07/2019 12:30

I have a slush puppie machine, once I saw how much salt goes into a slush drink I lost my appetite for them and I used to really love them.

KipperCuddlingGrimbots · 25/07/2019 12:32

@Fucksandflowers The salt doesn't actually go into the drink.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 25/07/2019 12:34

You can Use an ice cream maker if you can get one cheaper?
I've made great mojitos with a supermarket mix and throwing it in rhe ice cream maker and just stop it when it's slushy not frozen solid.
