To worry i will need to go to hospital

Anxious256 · 23/07/2019 02:48

I have woken up with a really bad pain in my stomach which paracetamol and codeine haven’t eased. Last time this happened i was admitted for three days with queeried appendicitis. I have endo and the consultant thinks its probably that and has given me the option of more surgery with a planned appendix removal. Worried incase i am back in hospital either for this or surgery.

Talk it through with NHS Direct

Anxious256 · 23/07/2019 03:17

This warm weather really is not helping as usually find a hot waterbottle helps.

Thanks@Mothership4two i am relluctant to call 111 unless i feel much worse. The pattern seems to be they get ooh to call me back who say to go in.i then have to wait for hours to be examined and transfered to surgeons. I then wait for hours for a bed. If it is just endo would prefer my bed. Obviously this approach is stupid if i need emergency surgery.

I know have diarrohea and am getting worried. How bad was pain for anyone who has had appendicitis?

OP posts:
LeeHarper5 · 23/07/2019 05:04

No experience of either type of pain but it’s keeping you awake and you are clearly concerned so please get checked out. Ring nhs direct and let them decide if you need to be seen.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 23/07/2019 05:10

My appendicitis pan started in my right shoulder and moved through to the middle of my chest, like I was being slowly impaled. No nausea or diarrhoea. Previous attacks felt like really bad indigestion.

Anxious256 · 23/07/2019 05:19

Thanks unless things get worse i pplan to try and get some sleep and decide in the morning. Pritty sure 111 would say to go to be assessed but cant face having to sit and wait for hours. It also feels a waist of a bed if purely endo.

Have you had gallstones ? Are you pregnant ?

fortheloveofPete · 23/07/2019 05:31

What would happen if you did have to go to hospital?

Can you put plans in place if you do?

Someone to look after DC
Money
Bag packed
Taxi fares
Etc

If you get the practical aspects out of the way, the rest is out of your hands, then its much easier to deal with knowing that you've prepared.

Widowodiw · 23/07/2019 05:37

When I had my appendix it was the worst pain ever- more so than childbirth. Id had diaherra and stomach ache in the night and by morning I couldn’t get out of bed to feed my crying 6 week old baby. I had to text my husband for help who was downstairs 🤦🏽‍♀️

user1480880826 · 23/07/2019 05:41

You need to see someone ASAP. A ruptured appendix can be extremely dangerous. Call 111 now.

Anxious256 · 23/07/2019 05:43

Thanks have a bag together for an overnight so would just need to put another pair of nightware in. Just charging my phone and if i go in on my own nothing more to sort.

OP posts:
Anxious256 · 23/07/2019 05:45

Am not pregnant and endo is the only diagnosis i have.

ittakes2 · 23/07/2019 05:50

You need to see someone ASAP - if its keeping you awake thats your body telling you to get some help. Good luck.

fortheloveofPete · 23/07/2019 05:52

If there is nothing else to sort out, why are you waiting?

It's never a waste of time to go to hospital if you are Ill, which you clearly are.

If its endo-great. If its not....then you're in the best place to get it sorted before something drastic happens.

Come on now, deep breath, pack bag, get going. Get it over with for your peace of mind.

ineedagirlsname · 23/07/2019 06:12

I had my appendix out a fortnight ago.. my recovery was and is more difficult because I kept putting it off to go my doctor who gave me a letter for a and e straight away.
Better to be safe than sorry and make a good recovery by being checked out.
If I could turn back time I'd never have left it so long to be seen. The surgeon told me my recovery would be longer as my appendix had perforated..
I was scared but I shouldn't have left it as long as I did . Good luck x

VivienneHolt · 23/07/2019 06:40

My appendicitis pain was very bad but I also know endo can be excruciating. I didn’t have diarrhoea but I believe this can be a symptom.

When I was referred to OOH for mine, the thing that made them send me to A&E was the fact that I had a temperature (even though it wasn’t that high). Take yours and see if it’s raised - if so, it might be an indication that it’s not endo.

Anxious256 · 23/07/2019 10:08

Thanks all. Sorry for the delay in replying i fell back to sleep for a couple of hours, so hope i am getting better.

The biggest thing which stops me getting checked out is knowing how uncommfortable i am sitting and waiting.

Any update OP? How are you feeling now?

Anxious256 · 24/07/2019 01:32

Thanks had been feeling good since lunchtime. However, have woken in pain again and have been sick. I am hoping it settles and i can get some sleep. Iassume if it was serious it would probably build up over time.

OP posts:
SuzieSunshine · 24/07/2019 01:43

What are you waiting for - for it to get worse?? Ring 111 now and maybe they can send a paramedic to check you over. Doesn't sound like you should wait any longer imo. I've been in situations when I've thought how ill have I got to feel before I ring for help. Ended up being blue lighted off and in resuss before going to ICU. It was diabetes related though. Take Care.

Anxious256 · 24/07/2019 01:48

I dont feel able to wait arround in a waiting room if its just endo and all the hospital can do is painkillers.

OP posts:
Pieceofpurplesky · 24/07/2019 01:57

Do you have any peppermint tea? If it's gallstones that will help

Anxious256 · 24/07/2019 02:04

i had peppermint tea earlier but feel it will make me sick.
It would feel that i was waisting resources to get a paramedic out. If the ooh said to go in is there any chance i could lie down while waiting to be seen?

OP posts:
Casiloco · 24/07/2019 02:29

Talk to 111 and explain your problems sitting in a waiting room when you are feeling so rough.

I get it - I was in huge pain with a back problem and they sent me to sit (worst position for back pain!) for an hour and a half in the middle of the night when I was dog tired and desperately needed to sleep. Really unhelpful.
