To be freaking out about possibly contaminated school shoes... !

I don't do sickness at all..... So with that in mind, a kid was sick at DS's school in Tuesday in the classroom. I'm fairly happy that DS hasn't got the bug as it's been a few days now and he's ok but I've just noticed that he's put on the shoes he was wearing that day and I'm freaking out that they are contaminated. What are the chances he will catch a bug from his shoes?! Is this even a thing?!

Are you serious? Confused

OtraCosaMariposa · 21/07/2019 12:16

Freaking out.... contaminated.....

get help for your anxiety. This is not normal thinking.

MyFokMarelize · 21/07/2019 12:17

No. No it's not a thing. And seriously - if this is what's going through your mind it might be time to seek some outside help. This is not a normal way to think.

taylorowmu · 21/07/2019 12:17

Hehe

Where have the shoes been since Tuesday?

PortiaCastis · 21/07/2019 12:17

Yes you need help for your anxiety

TheClaws · 21/07/2019 12:17

YABU. The chance is so infinitesimally tiny you’d need a telescope to see it. (How would he catch a bug from his shoes? What type of sickness was it?)

MummyDummyNow · 21/07/2019 12:17

I'm sure he's stood in a lot worse than another child's vomit, pavements aren't germ free! If you're really worried give them a wash/wipe.

FadedRed · 21/07/2019 12:17

Don’t let him (or anyone else) lick his shoes.

FiveShelties · 21/07/2019 12:18

I cannot think of how he could catch anything from the shoes. What makes you think he might, does he put them in his mouth or something?

daisypond · 21/07/2019 12:18

Is this a joke?

TanyaChix · 21/07/2019 12:18

In the kindest possible way, it’s not normal to worry about things like this. He’s not going to catch anything from the shoes.

FeatherySquawkington · 21/07/2019 12:19

They've been in the shoe cupboard. I do get anxious about things and really do overthink stuff too. I'm aware this isn't normal but can't seem to help myself.

PixieLumos · 21/07/2019 12:19

No. No it’s not a thing.

BackOnceAgainWithABurnerEmail · 21/07/2019 12:20

No. Not a thing. If this is something that bothers you learning some facts about contagion etc might be a good starting place as a place of ignorance isn’t helping (in the nicest possible way).

WorraLiberty · 21/07/2019 12:22

It's good that you're aware your reaction isn't normal.

Try to get yourself some help, as it could well get worse.

FeatherySquawkington · 21/07/2019 12:24

I was worried he might have stepped in it so have the germs on his shoes - he does play around with them a lot in the car so would have touched them at some point.

imaflutteringkite · 21/07/2019 12:26

I agree with PP you need some help for your anxiety because this is an extreme reaction. Also if you are worried about it, why don't you clean the shoes. Should be easy enough to disinfect them surely?

transformandriseup · 21/07/2019 12:28

If they were contaminated (he had walked through the sick) it would probably be gone by now and you may have heard from other parents if it was going around his classmates. You could wipe the bottoms with disinfectant to be in the safe side.

makingmammaries · 21/07/2019 12:28

Put the shoes outside in the sunshine. Turn them over after 30 mins. Take them in later. Sorted.

PancakeAndKeith · 21/07/2019 12:30

Spray them with a bit of anti bac.

Chances are it’ll be fine. How old is he? Half my reception class seem to spend time licking their shoes.

Pinktinker · 21/07/2019 12:31

You think you’ve read it all then this happens.

Yogurtcoveredricecake · 21/07/2019 12:31

Has he been eating or licking the shoes?

Maybe you should go the GP OP. For you. This sort of worry isn't usual.

EarlyMorningEyes · 21/07/2019 12:32

Address your anxiety. Don’t worry about the shoes.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 21/07/2019 12:34

Exactly, get help pronto for this anxiety or or will rub off on your child.

starzig · 21/07/2019 12:36

You are totally right to be freaking out. I got sick from contaminated shoes and actually died. I suggest wrapping them in several plastic bags and take the to the hospital to put in the clinical waste.
