To have a drink in a bar alone?

Tonight I finish work at 6pm. DS finishes his class in the next town at 7:30pm. To go home first I would be going out of my way by about 15 minutes.

Would you, whilst waiting for DS:
A) work late Hmm
B) go home then go out again
C) go to supermarket - nothing immediately essential needed but could always get some bits
D)go for a walk (though town not most scenic)
E) go to a bar and have a small glass wine
(as driving)
F) something else?

Why wouldn’t you?

I travel for work and go to wherever is closest to relax and kill time.

AnyFucker · 19/07/2019 13:09

Go to a bar (if that is all there is locally) and have a coffee

CacenCrunch · 19/07/2019 13:10

I would work late if I was getting paid for it. Otherwise shopping or the library

MovinOnUp · 19/07/2019 13:10

Wouldn't have anything alcoholic if driving but would have a soft drink on my own in the pub, No problem.

SeasideSoul · 19/07/2019 13:11

I would do what AF suggests. If not driving, i'd go and have a big glass of wine! I do this all the time, love it!

InDubiousBattle · 19/07/2019 13:12

Are you allowed even a small wine when you're driving (I don't drive so no idea!)? In general then yes, I would much rather have a drink on my own than go to the supermarket.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 19/07/2019 13:12

I'd do the pub but have a coffee as I don't like to even have one if driving (not snippy, dont care if others so it is legal).

I'd probably take something to read or play on my phone though

RevRichardWayneGaryWayne · 19/07/2019 13:12

I've done this before and taken a book - my only worry would be on a Friday at that time most bars are packed so finding a quiet corner for yourself might be tough - but that's assuming you'd want a quiet corner!!

YouJustDoYou · 19/07/2019 13:15

Well I certainly wouldn't have a glass of wine if I was driving - what would be the point? I'd just bring a book and have a nice quiet read tbh. Having seen my mum when I was growing up have "just a glass of wine" and then drive )and subsequently lose her license), plus my BIL and SIL drink and drive thinking it's "fine", please don't go have a drink.

Pinktinker · 19/07/2019 13:39

I have done it in the past and it was fine, I didn’t feel awkward at all. Coffee shop an option or will it be too late?

Pinktinker · 19/07/2019 13:40

Sorry, just re-read and seen the time. Yeah, I’d just sit in the bar or a pub. No big deal, people do it often. I used to go watch movies alone a lot too and enjoyed it.

userxx · 19/07/2019 13:44

Glass of wine all the way.

HeronLanyon · 19/07/2019 13:47

A or E.

Divebar · 19/07/2019 13:50

I would go to a coffee shop but possibly not open in your neck of the woods.... I wouldn’t have a problem sitting in a bar alone ( why would you?)

purplecorkheart · 19/07/2019 14:01

I would go to a coffee shop or hotel if possible and have a coffee. Otherwise I would have a coffee or soft drink in a bar.

HeyMicky · 19/07/2019 14:05

Goodness yes. I was an hour early for friends last week, deliberately, and had a G&T and some water and read my book. Lovely.

GruciusMalfoy · 19/07/2019 14:09

I don't drink when I'm driving, but I'd not think twice about sitting in a bar with a soft drink for an hour or so. Bring a book?

GruciusMalfoy · 19/07/2019 14:10

Oh yes, I'd forgotten what day it is! Friday might be a bit rowdy for reading Grin

clarissa469 · 19/07/2019 14:10

This screams anxiety or something I would do. Do whatever it is that makes you comfortable. If you sit in a bar and read a book or the paper for an hour it’s no one else’s business

OhNoooNotAgain · 19/07/2019 14:11

Would I have a drink alone? Absolutely, yes. Would I drink and drive? Absolutely never!

clarissa469 · 19/07/2019 14:18

Didn’t see the drink and drive bit! Oops

Shoxfordian · 19/07/2019 14:21

I'm in a pub with a pint on my own now
Meeting friends soon but came early on purpose to read the paper first. Go have a drink or something while you wait and take a book

TwentyEight12 · 19/07/2019 14:25

If you want to go to the pub/bar for an hour or so and drink alcohol and then drive, perhaps wine is not the best alcoholic drink to choose as it’s pretty high on the unit stakes... I wanted to suggest a small white wine in a medium or large wine glass topped up with plenty of soda water. But, i’m not totally down with drink/drive laws and units.

What about having half a shandy or half a lager/beer instead? It’s still booze but not as high in alcohol as vino.

SuperSara · 19/07/2019 14:28

Go and have a glass of wine on your own, OP.

Nothing wrong with that all; no one will bat an eyelid!

YouJustDoYou · 19/07/2019 14:49

Go and have a glass of wine on your own, OP

Nothing wrong with that at all

SHE'LL BE DRIVING.
