Prince Archie's Christening

HyacynthBucket · 06/07/2019 18:54

AIBU to think that all the criticism of his parents for keeping the christening private is very misplaced. This is deeply personal and why shouldn't they keep it among close family and friends? They will be publishing some photos afterwards.
Many pundits in the press are linking this to the recently released figure of £2.4m to do up their house at taxpayers' expense, but I do not see that they are linked. Who should pay for the house (I believe they should) is a different issue. It should not be a trade off - cost of house in exchange for seeing baby baptised.

I literally agree with every word of your post OP and have been thinking the same thing. Grin

mummmy2017 · 06/07/2019 18:57

Finally . A word used by the two big papers.
It occurred to me that the papers needed the pictures of the christening for their Sunday supplements, to sell them, to make them money..
Are people being lead by the nose to forfill the newspapers agenda...

tobedtoMNandfart · 06/07/2019 19:03

They chose to be very high profile during the engagement, wedding & pregnancy. She spent MILLIONS on clothes. That's why this reticence seems so strange and jarring now. They have released a pic this afternoon. Not the happiest group family photo I've ever seen!

Jeremybearimybaby · 06/07/2019 19:04

Some people only want to see pictures of the baby to see what colour he is/the texture of his hair.
Paper want to sell Sunday supplements.
Meghan and Harry know they have to play the game a bit when it comes to the press, or they'll start hounding them (even more than they do) so yeah, it was most likely a trade off.
I can't get excited about it. I do think their PR team aren't doing a great job, and they've had some duff advice.

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/07/2019 19:05

Either they want paid for, in which case the public owns them. Or they don't, in which case stop spending all that money.

Actually I quite like Meghan and Harry and I'm sure Archie is great, he's a baby they all are. But if you work for the circus, you'll get elephant shit on you.

Windygate · 06/07/2019 19:06

You mean Master Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor

floraloctopus · 06/07/2019 19:06

I'm not surprised it's not the happiest photo ever - he doesn't have his mother there, she doesn't have her father there, his Aunts don't have their sister there and it's publicity that they don't want. Added to that, some of the godparents want their names kept private and so are also presumably not in the photo - he's presumably got male godparents as well?

He's got a lot of Harry's colouring hasn't he - I think he must have a little red hair.

mummmy2017 · 06/07/2019 19:08

When grandad becomes king, that will be Prince Archie.

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 06/07/2019 19:08

Slightly OT but he’s not a Prince is he?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 06/07/2019 19:08

She spent MILLIONS on clothes.

What? How could that be true? Clothes for herself or the baby?

shieldmaidenofrohan · 06/07/2019 19:08

YABU for calling him Prince Archie. He isn't a prince.
i couldn't care less about seeing pictures, I have no interest in the Sussexes whatsever.

Jeremybearimybaby · 06/07/2019 19:09

Not the happiest group family photo I've ever seen!
Wills looks like he's got a bad smell under his nose! Grin

EdWinchester · 06/07/2019 19:10

I really don't care and good for them for not parading themselves.

And he's not 'Prince'.

I don't want to pay for any of them btw.

floraloctopus · 06/07/2019 19:12

IF Grandad becomes king - there are no guarantees.

MrsDimmond · 06/07/2019 19:13

I think that they would have got less hassle if they had simply said that the service would be private and official photos would be released afterwards.

But to announce that there would not be an announcement (about godparents) was unnecessary and guaranteed to piss people off.

Most people (that could give a rats behind about this shit) would have been happy with the photos they have actually now released.

wellbuggerme · 06/07/2019 19:14

he`s not a prince!

LostInNorfolk · 06/07/2019 19:16

She spent MILLIONS on clothes.

Really?

Plus they don't pay the full price. I used to get clothes from the same designer as Kate Middleton. As a regular I got a minimum 30% discount . I had a dress on order, she wore it, I changed my order and the chatting I asked if she paid and they looked sheepish and said something about a sliding scale of discounts.

Sirzy · 06/07/2019 19:17

Everyone is entitled to some privacy.

It seems to me he is trying to take a similar stance to Princess Anne when it comes to keeping the lives of the children private as they grow up. Of course she didn’t have the media 24/7 mob baying for photos at every given opportunity.

RubberTreePlant · 06/07/2019 19:17

'Prince'' Archie?

maddiemookins16mum · 06/07/2019 19:18

But they can’t have it both ways, big wedding, public invited to the inner bit of Windsor etc. Surely the could have done the same as William and Kate for Louis’ christening, a brief glimpse of them going into the chapel.
But, in fairness, I’m really not losing any sleep over them.

User8888888 · 06/07/2019 19:19

I think princess anne got it right with her children. Zara is in the public eye but seemingly though choice and her sporting achievements. I don’t blame them for trying to keep some things private and to try and create a degree of normality.

Pipandmum · 06/07/2019 19:23

The black and white one of the three of them is beautiful.

MrsDimmond · 06/07/2019 19:24

he doesn't have his mother there, she doesn't have her father there, his Aunts don't have their sister there and it's publicity that they don't want.

Well, to be fair, all of those factors were the same at the wedding, and all other family events.

EleanorReally · 06/07/2019 19:26

he is not a prince for a start

but yanbu

we should leave them in peace

Evilspiritgin · 06/07/2019 19:35

I couldn’t care less if they have a private christening, I actually think it’s a really nice photo, everyone looks really relaxed even though William looks like he’s about to laugh ,
