Prince Archie's Christening

AIBU to think that all the criticism of his parents for keeping the christening private is very misplaced. This is deeply personal and why shouldn't they keep it among close family and friends? They will be publishing some photos afterwards.
Many pundits in the press are linking this to the recently released figure of £2.4m to do up their house at taxpayers' expense, but I do not see that they are linked. Who should pay for the house (I believe they should) is a different issue. It should not be a trade off - cost of house in exchange for seeing baby baptised.

They're just bring so unbearably precious about their baby. It's certainly helping boost Kate's popularity. Even though she's as spendthrift as any of them and guards her children's privacy, she just seems so low maintenance and easy going in comparison to H&M!

DameFanny · 06/07/2019 19:37

Hardly 'millions' on clothes, and the house that's been renovated must have been pretty dilapidated, given the nature of the renovations. Also, it's not actually their house is it? They might not pay rent, but it stays property of the crown - they won't be putting it on Rightmove if they ever move on, so criticising them for the cost of renovations which were probably decided elsewhere isn't fair.

I think that they would have got less hassle if they had simply said that the service would be private and official photos would be released afterwards.

But to announce that there would not be an announcement (about godparents) was unnecessary and guaranteed to piss people off.

Most people (that could give a rats behind about this shit) would have been happy with the photos they have actually now released.*

My thoughts exactly. Seems like a really crap bit of PR management to be honest!

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 06/07/2019 19:44

When grandad becomes king, that will be Prince Archie

No he won't, its not prince peter and princess zara is it?! Its not princess louise and prince James. I don't kmow but last time i looked their grandmother had already been queen for quite some time.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 06/07/2019 19:51

Harry is a working royal (and by extension Meghan).
Archie will not be a major royal as an adult. He's by the time he reaches adulthood it is likely his Uncle will be King, if there is one. His Cousin will be choosing his spouse and probably producing children by the time Archie is mid twenties. Look at the critisism Beatrice and Eugenie get. So why should his childhood be public?

mummmy2017 · 06/07/2019 19:52

NaughtToThreeSadOnions all the parents were offered the titles and said no....
We will have to wait a few years and see what happens

NotACleverName · 06/07/2019 19:58

I know, right, @OneInAMillionYou? MM lived in poverty before she shacked up with ol' Prince Harry!

The rule is that grandchildren of the Sovereign born through the male line are entitled to be Prince/Princess, hence Anne's children were not entitled and she refused a title for her husband to give them something.

Edward and Sophie's children could have been Prince and Princess but their parents chose not to.
Once/If Charles becomes King the Archie could be Prince, if the Queen outlives him, a real possibility, then Archie is the nephew of the monarch, William, and hence not entitled!

Freddiefox · 06/07/2019 20:13

Not the happiest group family photo I've ever seen!
Wills looks like he's got a bad smell under his nose!

Shame on wills for not smiling in his own nephew’s christening photo. Money certainly doesn’t buy you class

Marcipex · 06/07/2019 20:18

I didn’t notice William. I only looked at the baby.
He has dark eyes and a little bit of red hair. Very cute.

Largs · 06/07/2019 20:20

YANBU.
If they had released the names of the godparents the poor souls would have had paparazzi camped outside for weeks digging dirt about them.
They're good photos and the press will make millions out of them. Yet they've retained a bit of privacy. Win win.

MrsDimmond · 06/07/2019 20:55

Still doesn't explain why they annouced they weren't going to announce who they are ....

Have the paparazzi been all over the Cambridge children's godparents? I have no idea. I have no idea who they are for starters.

There were no privacy issues regarding the children who were bridesmaids and pages at the wedding.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 06/07/2019 20:59

Not a Prince

Not going to be King

Would there have been this much fuss over Beatrice and Eugenie's christenings? Lots of people pulled faces at Eugenie's wedding being on the telly because she isn't important enough - can't have it both ways

MyOpinionIsValid · 06/07/2019 21:02

The child is not titled, hence a private citizen - and given the amount of commentary on MN about a childs right to privacy and parents are near Satan for ever posting comments or pictures about their children , I rathe make the Sussexes correct.

MyOpinionIsValid · 06/07/2019 21:04

He is smiling Hmm

LaurieMarlow · 06/07/2019 21:15

Photos are lovely.

He’s not a prince. They’ve decided he’s a private citizen so I’m not sure that can change, even if they wanted it to.

Butterfly98 · 06/07/2019 22:01

Baby Archie looks adorable and is so cute! It's good to finally see a proper picture of his him. He looks like he might have ginger hair after his Dad but looks like Mom around the eyes. I think William, Kate and the rest of the family look happy in the photo!
