To buy my 13 year old a high sleeper bed?

Can you get ones suitable for older kids / teens ? DS is already quite tall

But We are moving house and I want to maximise his floor space as much as poss as his room is quite small and he ideally needs space for a desk for studying etc

Also if any one can recommend one that would be great!

DD has got the stompa casa which I would highly recommend. The bed is lovely and high with a desk and sofa bed underneath for sleepovers. You can get a wardrobe version I think.

Studybed but expensive, you may be able to get good secondhand one and buy new mattress

IKEA sell reasonably priced ones, and so do Noa and Nani. Be careful about your ceiling height (we made that mistake years ago) and also be aware that changing the sheets is a bit of a pain. However the increased floor space may be worth the occasional hassle Smile

15yo DC2 has a high sleeper to give floor space. Bought 2nd hand 3 years ago. It's great. Fit storage & bookcase underneath it, which freed up space for a desk.
Now fully adult height & no problems at all.

My son who's 8 has one but I can't imagine him wanting one when a teenager. But if you need the space and your son wants one then go for it.

My 18 year old is still using his.
We have had it about 5 years and is just a standard one. It’s no different to them sleeping on the top bed of a bunk and the space it creates is well worth it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it! it's a fab way of saving space.

Not ridiculous. The only reason my ds doesn't sleep in his midsleeper is because he got used to sleeping in the double bed in our spare room and won't give it up! It frees up so much space when you can put bookshelves etc underneath it.

You can get double high sleepers for too, dont know why his age is an issue, I'd have one if I thought my body could handle the ladder!

Surely the key thing is what DS wants? Both mine had mid sleepers when they were younger, but asked to switch to normal beds when they got to teens, fully accepting this meant less floor space. And DD's room in particular is pretty small. She's ended up with a foldup desk as we couldn't fit one otherwise.

DS had a high sleeper until he was 15 - mostly out of necessity due to room size. You can get double bed sized ones...

What is the thinking behind this opinion? Am I missing something...?

Surely if it's what ds wants and creates more useable space in his room it makes sense to fo it ..Confused

Tbh most teens relax/study/read in bed. So floor space isn't too much of an issue. Could get a narrow desk if necessary

High sleepers are a ballache to change the sheets on.

just make sure there is enough space for growing lad to sit up without concussion - maybe (thinking about it Grin) however if ds is difficult to wake you will have fun (one of my adolescent dc was terrible to wake up - cue for me climbing ladder ….

by the way - if he is that age why would you be making bed? we had high sleeper in small bedroom that fitted over stair "box" over stairs maximised size of room & got a cupboard underneath to match (pine!) that had hanging shelf suitable for shirts etc)

We changed our Ds from a high sleeper when he was 13 as it was just ridiculous watching him climb in and out - he must have been 5'6 then and was only ever going to get taller!

Stricty Bunks and Beds do double high sleepers that are extremely sturdy. No reason not to if he wants one, you have the ceiling hight and changing the bedding isn't going to be a ball ache.
