AIBU to want to pull my tooth out

Yousicktwistedfruit · 02/07/2019 08:12

I have impacted wisdom teeth and one of the bottoms ones is trying to come through I am in agony with it I’m taking painkillers and using Bonjela like it’s going out of fashion but this tooth is still causing me no end of pain to the point that I feel sick with it I’ve burnt my face on using my hot water bottle I can’t sleep for the pain and right now I would happily cut open my own gum and pull the stupid tooth out. I know IABU I am just in so much pain that I can’t even think straight. Any suggestions for what I can try. I’m going to sort out a dentist so I can get this tooth removed but until then I need something that will get rid of this pain.

how soon can you get to a dentist ? with something this bad i would push for an emergency appointment, although you might need to wait a day or two.
have you tried anything with ibruprofen in it for pain relief? hope you get it sorted soon.

Yousicktwistedfruit · 02/07/2019 08:22

@fecketyfeck21 I don’t know I need to find a dentist that is taking on new patients and I would have to be referred to the dental hospital to have it taken out. I’m going to check on google what dentists are near me and beg and plead with them to be seen before I resort to taking it out myself. I will try some ibuprofen that would help with facial swelling as well as the pain. I’m just at my wits end with it.

I feel for you OP, I have teeth issues often. I use Anbesol liquid which works better than bonjela (from a pharmacy), I'd also get some co-codamol to help with the pain. Try get to see and emergency dentist too, I hope you get seen ASAP

WonderTweek · 02/07/2019 08:30

My husband wasn't registered with any clinic some years ago, and he got a same day emergency dentist appointment when he was in pain. It was a bit of a drive away but at least he was treated quite quickly. I think there is an emergency number you can call? I hope you get it sorted soon!

Yousicktwistedfruit · 02/07/2019 08:30

@TheHobbitMum thank you will try that and I will see if I can get some co-codamol as well anything is worth trying if it means I can get rid of this pain and get some sleep. Thank you I will ring round every dentist I can find today I’ve spent all weekend dealing with this pain and now am ready to smash all my teeth out.

BlackCatFan · 02/07/2019 08:31

Ring 111 OP, doesn't matter if you don't have a dentist - they will sort you out an emergency appointment.

shazkevincarrotlover · 02/07/2019 08:32

Do you have a small flap of gum where the tooth is trying to come through?
If you do rinse your mouth with warm salt water (we used to recommend corsodyl mouthwash for this but it triggers asthma and other health conditions so it's use has been restricted).
Take Ibuprofen and paracetamol at seperate times (take Ibuprofen then few hrs later take paracetamol) so when 1 is wearing off the other is still active.
See a dentist asap and get a referral to your local maxfac unit for surgical removal.
Your own dentist could do it but they would usually charge whereas the hospital don't.

Yousicktwistedfruit · 02/07/2019 08:32

@WonderTweek thank you I hope to
God I can find a dentist that would be willing to see me today I really don’t want to have to deal with this pain for much longer. Really wish my wisdom teeth had just stayed put and not started moving.

Phone nhs 24. They have a dental triage team that will organise an emergency appointment today for you. It sounds like you need an antibiotic and a referral

Yousicktwistedfruit · 02/07/2019 08:41

@BlackCatFan thank you I didn’t know I could do that.

OP posts:
Yousicktwistedfruit · 02/07/2019 08:47

@shazkevincarrotlover no the gum is still intact because the tooth is laying sideways it’s just pushing but not getting anywhere. I will try the warm salt water solution i’m willing to give anything a try and I will get some paracetamol and ibuprofen that’s a good tip thank you. I never knew that about corsodyl I will have to stop using it. My mum said they would send me to the maxfac until to take it out just not sure how they would have me waiting for an appointment I know I have to wait a while for the sedation clinic to see me.

I’d exhaust every avenue to get it dealt with urgently to be honest. I had the same thing last year, flared up overnight and I was in agony. I was also 19wks pregnant, I made an emergency dental appt to then get referred to an oral surgeon the next day, booked in the surgery (earliest they had was two weeks - despite the added issue of being pregnant) and the next day I went into early labour, had a still born and was in hospital for a week due to sepsis. It can escalate very quickly especially with that level of intense pain.

Yousicktwistedfruit · 02/07/2019 08:49

@Ash39 thank you I will do that today I didn’t think about phoning them I probably could’ve done that over the weekend instead of suffering. I think I might need and antibiotic I get hot and feel sick with the pain.

OP posts:
Gatoadigrado · 02/07/2019 08:53

Ditch the hot water bottle! That will be making it worse because it’ll increase the blood flow to the area which is going to make it more painful and if there’s any infection could actually be quite dangerous.
Try a cold compress instead

Cordosyl is good stuff and worth using despite the (minuscule) risks associated

BUT your best friend is clove oil. Ask the pharmacist for a small bottle. It’s brownish liquid and tastes a bit odd but is the best thing for painful gums/ toothache

And def get to a dentist soon as, to get the tooth removed

Yousicktwistedfruit · 02/07/2019 08:53

@SamStephens I am so so sorry you went through that Flowers I will get sorted today I didn’t realise a tooth could make you so ill. Definitely need to get it sorted out I don’t want to end up seriously ill because of it.

OP posts:
SamStephens · 02/07/2019 08:56

Thank you @yousicktwistedfruit :) it sucked for sure and I didn’t realise how quickly or severely it could affect your health either! I’m sure I’m in a minority of sorts but still better safe than sorry! I’m 25wks pregnant again now so touch wood no dental emergencies this time!

Yousicktwistedfruit · 02/07/2019 08:56

@Gatoadigrado oh bugger I had no idea that the hot water bottle could be making it worse I’ll stop using that then. I will use a cold compress thank you. I have got some corsodyl so I will give it a try. Thank you I will get some of that today to try. I will be sorting out a dentist today I can’t live with this pain for much longer this tooth needs to get gone now.

Yousicktwistedfruit · 02/07/2019 08:58

@SamStephens I really had no idea that teeth could make you so ill. Will defiantly be getting my bum to the dentist that’s for sure. Oh congratulations I hope everything goes well for you not long to wait until your baby is here.

Tooth pain is horrendous, I've had an emergency same day appointment over a bank holiday weekend when I had an abcess as I was still registered with a dentist at my parents house. Ring 111 now as other pp have suggested and you will hopefully get seen today. You will likely have to wait for it to be removed though, my brother had an impacted tooth and waited about 6 months for it to be removed in hospital as a day patient, but I don't know how they prioritise patients in the queue

Gatoadigrado · 02/07/2019 08:59

also I wouldn’t faff about waiting for referrals to maxofacial teams ... your dentist can remove the tooth and tbh removal isn’t massively expensive, way cheaper than lots of other treatments. You need this out soon.
The only thing that might put them off acting immediately is if it’s infected... they don’t like to treat a tooth where there’s actual infection and will probably try to give you antibiotics first
Having said that, I once pleaded with a dentist to remove a really painful tooth which was beyond recovery rather than taking anti b’s first, and he agreed. He explained that the main reason to not want to treat during active infection is that the numbing injection is less likely to be effective. I was in so much pain that was the least of my worries. I cannot overstate the relief you’ll feel when it’s out. I’ve given birth several times on just gas and air and I still say bad toothache is up there on the level of pain.

Kyogre · 02/07/2019 09:06

Good luck OP. Hope you getter sorted ASAP.

jamoncrumpets · 02/07/2019 09:08

Search impacted wisdom tooth removal on YouTube - you would not be able to get that fucker out yourself.

Definitely ring 111 and get strong painkillers! I've been there OP. Mine is out now thank god.

MaMisled · 02/07/2019 09:09

Call 111 and they will find you an emergency appointment with an NHS dentist. I did this 3 weeks ago. I had to drive 45mins away and wait 2hrs but it was worth it! Good luck!

dottiedodah · 02/07/2019 09:10

Firstly resist the temptation to pull it out!.Secondly try 111 for an emergency dentist ASAP. Paramol is a very effective painkiller only avaliable over the counter, at the Chemist !.Explain to them the pain you are in, and they may have other treatments /advice for you. Also can you sleep with your pillows behind you (sort of sitting up!)?.When I had teeth probs 111 nurse suggested this ,and it did help a lot .I hope you get help and feel better soon xx

Yousicktwistedfruit · 02/07/2019 09:24

@WishIwas19again thank you am not sure how long I would I have to wait I know my sister waited 2 years but that was because she pregnant and then they lost her referral. I will be giving 111 a call and hoping that they can get me seen

@Gatoadigrado I will see if a dentist is willing to take it out but knowing my luck I will be sent away with antibiotics and a referral for the maxofacial. Bloody hell don’t think I could do that. I actually told my partner I would rather give birth than have this pain.
