to think my MIL has turned into Letitia Cropley?

Arrive at MIL’s for dinner and ask what we are having “a lamb tagine” she replies. Lovely.

We sit down to the table and we’re dished up a lamb tagine served with broad beans from the garden, okay fair enough so far. Stuffing balls, “pineapple guacamole” and a mini sausage roll.

Pudding will be ginger roly poly with “milk and raspberries”. I don’t know what this means.

ConfusedConfused

Jemima232 · 22/06/2019 19:30

I'll tell you what it means, OP.

Severe indigestion.

PutyourtoponTrevor · 22/06/2019 19:30

Yikes

TremblingFanjo · 22/06/2019 19:32

I'm confused by the sausage roll. On the same plate?

CannyLad · 22/06/2019 19:33

Has the fridge gone on the blink and this is the big clear out?

TheFaerieQueene · 22/06/2019 19:34

We need photos.

TremblingFanjo · 22/06/2019 19:34

Has the fridge gone on the blink and this is the big clear out? Freezer roulette! Yes. You lost.

CassandraCross · 22/06/2019 19:36

Yes definitely on the slippery slope to Letitia Cropleydom . You must come back and tell us what ginger roly-poly with milk and raspberries is that doesn't sound like a winning combination.

I did laugh though OP, sorryBlush

ScaryBunnyPainting · 22/06/2019 19:41

All on the same plate at the same time.
There were also pickled onions in a jar (homemade) but I didn’t partake.

I didn’t take photos but I’ll try and get some of breakfast. SIL said they had some kind of breakfast crumble this morning. I have many questions.

ScaryBunnyPainting · 22/06/2019 19:43

Ginger roly poly seems to have been jam roly poly but instead of jam it was replaced with a sweet ginger paste. Raspberries and milk was raspberries in a bowl with milk poured over them. My 5yo was less than impressed.

PersianStar · 22/06/2019 19:43

My DP keeps trying to tell me that roly poly and milk is a thing Hmm
We’ve not long moved in together so I just laugh it off as something weird in his family and give him custard instead Grin

TooManyPaws · 22/06/2019 19:44

Who's Letitia Cropley?

It all sounds a bit random and likely to cause indigestion.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 22/06/2019 19:44

Did she have a meltdown? Or are they about to reach the use by date and knew she wouldnt use them by herself?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/06/2019 19:44

She needs to write a cookery book!!

DogHairEverywhere · 22/06/2019 19:46

I don't think she likes you op Grin

mouldyhousemouldylife · 22/06/2019 19:46

@TooManyPaws A character off The Vicar of Dibley whose thing was to make revolting recipes.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 22/06/2019 19:47

Letitica Cropley was a character in the Vicar of Dibley, played by the awesome Liz Smith.

ScaryBunnyPainting · 22/06/2019 19:47

Letitia Cropley is the old lady on The Vicar of Dibley who cooks all manner of weird and wonderful things.

She doesn’t seem to have had “a meltdown” and nothing was mentioned about and ingredient going out of date. It’s just plain weird. It’s like student cooking gone rogue.

Grin You might be right! But what did her GC do to deserve a night of stomach cramps? Hahahahaha

Who's Letitia Cropley?

A character from The Vicar of Dibley who served up many insane food combinations to the Parish Council. I think she’d be taking ideas from the OP’s MIL.

CassandraCross · 22/06/2019 19:49

Oh that sounds yuk, OP.

Be afraid, be very afraid anchovies are bound to make an appearance soon, possibly as a filling for a Victoria sandwich cake!

TooManyPaws Letitia Cropley was a character in the Vicar of Dibley known affectionately as the Dibley Poisoner for her bizarre food combinations.

Bookworm4 · 22/06/2019 19:51

Ginger roly poly, raspberries & milk 🤮
Good god has she developed dementia?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 22/06/2019 19:52

OP, may I suggest you make a marmite cake as a thank you? Maybe some parsnips brownies?

ScaryBunnyPainting · 22/06/2019 19:56

I’m thinking of having her over and digging out the decade old chocolate fountain and doing baked beans with dipping toast.
